No, but you do need a Japanese iTunes store account.
I tried to create a Japanese Itunes account, but sometimes it requires a valid JP credit card, and other times I have the option to choose "None" for credit card, but when I hit "Create Apple ID" it says my email is already associated with another Apple ID, even when I tried with a newly created Yahoo/Gmail account! Anyone get this to work?
The author of the "BigCombo" app has removed the app from the app store and is no longer available now.
seems combo apps will not be allowed after ver 5.4 update

I believe there were combo apps out there that actually moved the orbs for you. Basically it was automated play.

I don't foresee GungHo being able to outright prevent minimizing your game if a specific app like Big Combo is open.

I don't have an active JP account, but I am interested in feedback!

EDIT: Downloaded JP version in 5.4 and Big Combo works just as it did before.
well, they only blocked the combo app on android (just a puzzle solver similar to big combo integrated ingame, draw a route for you), They probably can't do anything about Jb apps i would imagine. I see some people complaining they can't open app on FB's chinese fanpage lol. then the app updated about an hour after gungho's update and it works again.

it's so funny seeing people asking what happened Tongue
If it's integrated in-game, that's the problem. Big Combo is a completely separate app that shows you a pattern and you reproduce it in game. It's the same as playing PAD and having Facebook app open.

I just checked using iOS, non-jailbroken 5.

That's precisely what the anti-root functionality does on the Android version of the game though. If you have a blacklisted app (in this case Superuser) that's even *installed* on the system, the game will crash on launch and do a data wipe of its own data at the same time.
Yep, it's pretty pointless though, as simply renaming the apk works-.- Same would probably work for combo apps/ datamining apps. Honestly, don't know why companies bother with such stuff like anti hacking/drm etc... It's just an inconvenience and there's always a way around. This root nonsense is a huge pain ( especially since its only the jp version, why?!)
A lot of it has to do with the fact that the JP market didn't complain nearly as loudly as the US one when they implemented anti-root in the US version of the game. Not nearly as many people who want to install custom ROMs and generally hack around on their mobile devices (most of their Android users don't even know that their phones come with a Google account on it, for example).
