What does it mean to be an Elden Lord in Elden Ring?

Marika and the demigods – To understand the whole deal of the Elden Lord, you have to understand how reality in the Lands Between work, and how it is ruled over by Marika and her family, who are both god-like beings and the equivalents of feudal kings, queens, and lords.

  1. First up, there’s the Elden Ring, a magical object that governs the rules of reality in the Lands Between-it’s that gold thing on the title screen when you boot up the game.
  2. The ring is made up of Great Runes that seemingly govern different elements of the world.
  3. In removing the Rune of Death, Marika was able to change how death worked in her kingdom.

The Elden Ring isn’t native to the Lands Between, though. It was sent to the world by the Greater Will, a cosmic force known as an Outer God. How To Become Elden Lord Elden Ring The Greater Will is the main Outer God in the Lands Between-the source from which many blessings and abilities spring. Marika was elevated to godhood by the Greater Will through its emissaries, the Two Fingers. The Greater Will exists somewhere far away from the Lands Between, so to exert its, uh, will, it has emissaries and agents.

  • Marika is one of those agents-she was originally of a people from outside the Lands Between called the Numen.
  • Emissaries of the Greater Will, the Two Fingers, chose Marika to become an Empyrean, a person who could be elevated to godhood and serve as a vessel for the Elden Ring.
  • Marika fulfilled that purpose and eventually became a god.

So at the top of the hierarchy is the Greater Will, then Marika and the Elden Ring, then, seemingly, the Two Fingers, then the demigods, who are Marika’s children and step-children. While Marika had the power of the Elden Ring behind her, she didn’t find the Lands Between empty.

  • In fact, quite a few people lived there, with civilizations and gods of their own.
  • They included giants in the mountains, dragons (who may have been subjects of the Greater Will before Marika), and humans, as well as various other races scattered throughout the world.
  • With control of the Elden Ring and the Rune of Death, Marika established the Golden Order, a sort of “Church of Marika” that also encompassed the rules of reality in the Lands Between.

And she started a campaign to bring the other civilizations to heel under her monarchy and the Golden Order. For that, she needed someone to wage war on her behalf-a king to her queen, essentially. The role of consort to Marika was known as the Elden Lord, a person who would wield massive power in the Lands Between as Marika’s right hand.

For her first Elden Lord, Marika chose a powerful warrior called Hoarah Loux; in his new royal position, he was renamed Godfrey the Golden. Under Marika’s orders, Godfrey waged war on the giants and various other races. (When you get to the Mountaintops of Giants, you find a whole lot of frozen giants there, thanks to Godfrey.) He also had children with Marika: Godwyn the Golden and the twins, Morgott and Mohg.

Godwyn was, apparently, Marika’s most favored child in the end, and he would go on to fight the dragons, even befriending a few thanks to his prowess in battle. Morgott and Mohg, however, were both “Omen” children-strange, powerful, cursed beings with horns growing all over their bodies. How To Become Elden Lord Elden Ring The first boss you face, Margit, is an Omen-one of the cursed people who were shunned by the Golden Order. Meanwhile, the campaigns of Marika and Godfrey were going pretty well, and the influence of the Greater Will spread across the land. Among the armies they sent out into the world was a champion named Radagon, who advanced in the ranks and eventually stood as a major leader among Leyndell’s forces.

He brought an army to bear against one of the countries of the Lands Between that wouldn’t come under the Golden Order’s purview: Liurnia of the Lakes, In Liurnia stood the Raya Lucaria Academy, where sorcerers trained using powers derived from the cosmos, at odds with the power of faith granted by the Golden Order.

The country had monarchs of its own, the Carian Royal Family, and powerful knights who also wielded powers of sorcery. Radagon and his forces found they couldn’t defeat the Carian soldiers or the sorcerers of Liurnia, and when he met the Carian royal, Rennala, on the battlefield, the two fell in love.

  1. So Liurnia came under the Golden Order’s governance not through force, like the other parts of the Lands Between, but through a marriage alliance between Radagon and Rennala.
  2. They had three children: Rykard, Radahn, and Ranni.
  3. Eventually, though, Godfrey ran out of people to conquer, and for some reason, Marika decided to take away his title as Elden Lord.

She sent Godfrey away, along with his warriors, to live outside the Lands Between. It sounds like this was the origin of the Tarnished-Marika intended for Godfrey and his warriors to live, struggle, and die outside the Lands Between, before returning stronger. How To Become Elden Lord Elden Ring Rennala got a bit.weird after Radagon left her, and her lack of leadership after his departure had a devastating effect on Liurnia. Radagon and Marika then had two more demigod children together: the twins Miquella and Malenia. Like Morgott and Mogh, though, these last two were also born cursed, but in a different way.

  • Miquella could never grow up, forever trapped in the body of a child, while Malenia was cursed by the Scarlet Rot, a disease that ate at her from the inside despite her immortality.
  • Still, despite various curses, Marika and her family lived and ruled for quite a long time this way, raising a society in the Lands Between and governing as a powerful royal family.

But slowly, things began to shift.

What happens if you become Elden Lord?

Ending 3 – Age of the Duskborn – Image from Wiki Fandom Ending 3 is another Elden Lord ending. It’s not as hard to achieve as the Age of Order since many steps can be skipped, but it requires you to defeat Lichdragon Fortissax to progress.1. Progress Fia’s questline. You can either complete all of the steps or skip a number of them. The normal route goes like this:

Rest at a Site of Grace in the Altus Plateau, then return to Fia and let her hold you. She’ll give you a Weathered Dagger which you’ll have to give to D to continue the quest. Speak to Rogier about black knives, then speak to Fia about them and she’ll give you a map to a Black Knifeprint. After the previous step, an event will occur where Fia is in a new room near the blacksmith. She’ll disappear and go to the Deeproot Depths. Go to the tallest point in the Depths and defeat Fia’s Summons. Find her and ask to be held again. She’ll ask you to find the Cursemark of Death. Obtain the Cursemark. It’s on a corpse at the top of the Divine Tower of Liurnia. To get it, you’ll have to progress Ranni’s questline. Once you’ve given her the hidden treasure of Nokron, you’ll get the Carian Inverted Statue which is used to get to the corpse. Once you’ve given her the cursemark and reloaded the area, she’ll be asleep. Interact with her to enter the Deathbed Dream. Defeat Lichdragon Fortissax in the Dream. Get the Mending Rune of the Death-Prince off of Fia’s corpse after the battle.

If you wanted to skip a number of steps, you could get to the point in the story where you burn the Erdtree. After doing so, Fia will be in the Deeproot Depths and you can do the rest of the questline.2. Get to the final boss battle and defeat the Elden Beast.3.

  • Go up to Marika and use the rune.
  • The Age of the Duskborn is when death returns to the Lands Between after a lengthy absence.
  • Using the Mending Rune of the Death-Prince, you become Elden Lord in a world covered in fog.
  • Instead of being immortal, all living beings now live and die.
  • Fia likely wants you to use the Rune to help Those Who Live in Death, since they are like her children.

She doesn’t like hunters like D because they keep attacking the dead, and using the rune would help them avoid being hunted. I also think that Fia’s goal is to free her children of immortality, making her a version of Death. This ending is significant because it is a major departure from the Greater Will and the purpose of the Elden Ring.

The Golden Order and the tools used to keep it in place serve the concept of immortality, so removing it takes them out of the picture to some extent. The Age of the Duskborn also allows for a resolution to the problems plaguing the world, as all of the long-lasting immortal creatures in the Lands Between can now rest, and the remaining ones will live normal lives.

But like all the other endings, the extent to which things are changed is unclear. It’s possible that death is only a minor inconvenience to the Greater Will or that conflicts will continue even if living things can now die.

Does becoming Elden Lord make you a god?

Elden Ring Theory: Why Malenia Becomes A God After You Kill Her Of all of ‘s demigods, Malenia is the one that feels as if she has already ascended to godhood. The Scarlet Rot-infected Empyrean is by far the most difficult opponent in the Lands Between with her Waterfowl Dance being nearly impossible to avoid.

  1. But for those Tarnished who managed to evade Malenia’s sword and felled the Blade of Miquella, they may have very well assisted her in becoming a full-fledged goddess.
  2. This may sound strange to those familiar with how the cycle of power functions in Elden Ring,
  3. Only a demigod whose consort is Elden Lord can become a god or goddess because doing so allows said demigod to become a vassal of the Elden Ring.

However, this accession to godhood appears to be ordained by the Outer universe, and the final fight of the game makes it semi-clear that the most popular one in the Lands Between, the Greater Will, is currently calling the shots regarding power and the Elden Ring.

Thus, other Outer Gods may try to manipulate the happenings of the Lands Between by trying to pick their own demigods to ascend to godhood. Indeed, other Outer Gods do this throughout the game; most notably, the Formless Mother who guides Mogh, the Omen, compels him to make Miquella a god by obtaining the Elden Ring.

But one other Outer God sidesteps this trodden path to godhood and has instead made its own prophecy with Malenia. This deity is, who has both cursed Malenia with the Scarlet Rot and gifted her its power and an alternative method to becoming a goddess.

How do I get the true Elden Lord ending?

Elden Lord, Age of the Duskborn – The Age of the Duskborn ending is centered around Fia, the Deathbed Companion. The second version of the Elden Lord ending, Age of the Duskborn, involves completing Fia’s quest, or at least the last couple steps of it. I will cover the entire side quest here, but there is a jumping on point if you missed the early steps, which need to be done early in the game.

Fia is the deathbed companion who hangs out in the Roundtable Holding area. She asks to hold you, giving you a consumable item and a health debuff if you agree. For Fia’s quest, we must first speak with Rogier, the magic user that helps you during the Margit fight, After speaking with Rogier at Stormveil Castle, you need to navigate to the secret area underneath the castle.

Down here you will find the base of the death root tree that has been spreading throughout the castle. Look for a particular bloodstain, which shows Rogier getting killed by the death status effect. Later, go back to the Roundtable Hold and ask Rogier about this.

  1. Rogier’s side quest continues from here, but this is as far as you need to go in order to achieve this ending.
  2. Now for Fia, you will need to get held a bunch.
  3. The best way to complete this is to get held, pop the blessing she gives you immediately, and get held again.
  4. Eventually, she will give you a weathered knife and ask you to return it to its owner.

Talk to D, another NPC in Roundtable Hold. It’s not his knife but he knows who it belongs to. In a cutscene Fia will kill D, which is supposed to happen, after which she will leave the Roundtable Hold. After this you will need to travel to Nokron, Eternal City.

  1. After defeating Radahn, head to where the star fell in Limgrave and head underground.
  2. Eventually you reach an aqueduct, which will have a set of twin bosses after it.
  3. After defeating them, head up the waterfall and you will reach Deeproot Depths.
  4. The main bosses arena is located in the northeast section of this area, which can be reached by climbing up a series of tree branches in the Nameless Eternal City,

For anyone who missed the opportunity to do the first half of Fia’s quest, this is where you can hop back onto this ending. Once you reach the Deeproot Depths, Fia will murder D offscreen and leave the Roundtable Hold for the Deeproot Depths. The ending is the same regardless if you did the first half of Fia’s quest.

  • In the boss arena you will have to defeat Fia’s Champions, who are a bunch of NPC invaders.
  • After killing them, you will find Fia sitting next to a teleport gate that isn’t active.
  • You will need to be held by Fia and exhaust all of the dialogue options multiple times.
  • Eventually she will ask for the Cursemark of Death, which can be acquired at the Divine Tower of Liurnia.

In order to get into the actual Divine Tower of Liurnia you will need to advance about halfway through Ranni the Witch’s side quest, The short version is that you need to pledge yourself to Ranni, travel to Nokron, Eternal City, and find the Fingerslayer Blade.

  • After turning that into Ranni, she gives you the Carian Inverted Statue.
  • Head to the Carian Study Hall, located in the southeastern part of Liurnia and use the Carina Inverted Statue to invert the Study Hall.
  • You will need to navigate down and through the Study Hall, where an elevator will eventually take you to the Divine Tower of Liurnia, where players can find the Cursemark of Death.

Return to Fia in the Deeproot Depths and she will allow you to head into the boss arena where you will fight Lichdragon Fortissax, who drops the Rune of the Death-Prince. After defeating the final boss, players will have the option to use the Rune of the Death-Prince at Marika, triggering the Age of the Duskborn ending.

How do you get the evil ending in Elden Ring?

How to unlock the Lord of Frenzied Flame ending – From Software The Lord of Frenzied Flame wastes no time destroying the Erd Tree. The Lord of Frenzied Flame is considered the bad ending of Elden Ring, as it sees you become a destructive dictator, consuming the world in the flame of chaos. To unlock it, you’ll need to follow Hyetta’s quest all the way to the Three Fingers and become their champion.

After beating Godrick, meet Hyetta on the Lake-Facing Cliffs and give her some Shabriri Grapes. Do this again whenever you encounter her to learn more about the Three Fingers and her quest. Meet Shabriri near the Zamor Ruins Site of Grace and exhaust his dialog. Make it to the Subterranean Shunning-Grounds under the Capital City by jumping down the well. Fight your way to the Cathedral of the Forsaken and beat Morg, the Omen (Not to be confused with the Shard Holder of the same name.) Activate the pedestal to find a hidden path. Carefully work your way down to the bottom. Take off all your gear then approach the door. You need to be naked to do this, apart from your underwear. Allow the Three Fingers to brand you and become their champion. Defeat the final boss to become the Lord of Frenzied Flame.

Choosing this path will effectively betray every other faction in Elden Ring, but you can still complete their quests, you just can’t unlock their endings. Becoming the Lord of Frenzied flame will see your character engulfed by the flame, becoming its living embodiment.

You’ll then be able to burn the world to ashes and remake it in your image, but beware, Melina won’t take kindly to your betrayal. What level should I be for Elden Lord?

Phase 1 – Godfrey, First Elden Lord – How To Become Elden Lord Elden Ring (Image credit: FromSoftware) Godfrey in Phase 1 acts like some hyper-powered version of the Golden Shade you fought the first time around, albeit with much larger, stronger variations of his attacks, not to mention some new moves (including a shockwave power you’ll quickly learn to hate). We’ll discuss some basics on how you can work through this first section here.

  • Players for this fight should aim to be around level 110 or up. You’ll also want weapons that are almost fully upgraded, +20 or more.
  • Like the first time around, Godfrey is vulnerable to Lightning and Thrusting damage, while Holy does very little to him. This won’t change when he hits Phase 2, thankfully.
  • If you’ve done Nepheli’s questline (which was filled out in a recent patch), she’ll be available as a summonable NPC outside the arena.
  • That being said, there’s an argument to be made that Godfrey might actually be a little easier to fight one-on-one (though it depends on your strengths as a player). When encountering multiple enemies, Godfrey’s AI seems to push him to use more AOE attacks – and these are generally very hard to dodge. Fighting him alone means he uses less of these and focuses on axe swings, which are much more manageable and easier to avoid.
  • In Phase 1, Godfrey is slow but powerful, and the impacts of his attacks are far-reaching. Shields can only stop the axe, and you’ll need to focus on well-timed rolling and evasion for everything else.
  • Like before, Godfrey’s stomps create short-range earthquakes ahead of him, but side-dodging these shouldn’t be too much trouble after practising with the Golden Shade.
  • If Godfrey slams his axe into the ground and creates a volcanic fissure across the ground, get off it! It’s about to explode for very high damage.
  • At about 75% health Godfrey will get a temporary white aura about him. This adds a shockwave effect to all his stomp attacks, or even when he lands after leaping across the arena. These shockwaves reach across the whole battlezone – they have unlimited range – and stagger those they hit, interrupting whatever they’re doing. You need to roll the moment you see one coming, as they’re deceptively fast, have very little wind-up, and Godfrey has a nasty habit of using them multiple times in rapid succession. While they don’t do massive damage, being hit by four in a row (not to mention having them interrupt your attempt to drink Flasks), can end a confused player horrifyingly quickly, or just drain their Flasks.

Bring Godfrey down to half health and a cinematic will trigger that begins Phase 2. Things are about to seriously change, as the former Lord takes a strange attitude of “less is more.”

Is Radahn an Elden Lord?

Starscourge Radahn Boss Fight Guide – Starscourge Radahn is a powerful Elden Lord who stalks the Wailing Wastes. The battle against him is an interesting mix of fun and challenge, but can be a little tedious and random. The battle will begin the instant you spawn into the Wailing Wastes, and Radahn will begin firing powerful arrows at you right away.

Wait until the moment just before the arrow reaches you, then dodge roll side to side. You need to do this a few times at the start of the fight, so keep your eye on him at all times. The gimmick of this battle is that you get to summon a handful of NPCs to assist you in the festival. You will see their summon signs scattered all over the sand in front of you.

Dash over to the signs and summon the NPCs in-between arrow shots until all of the possible allies have been summoned so that the real battle can begin. The allies you can summon include:

Great Horned Tragoth, who wields a giant hammer Lionel the Lionhearted, who summons large groups of homing souls Okina, a samurai who uses fiery blood slice attacks Alexander the Iron Fist, the warrior jar you may have met earlier in the game Blaidd the Half-Wolf, another warrior you may have met earlier as part of Ranni’s questline Patches (if you met and didn’t kill him, though he’ll take a few steps before deciding to quickly leave instead of fighting) Finger Maiden Therolina, who can be summoned near the top of the dunes and will invoke healing spells to try and bolster the group

Radahn will change up his strategy and start firing shotgun blasts of arrows as well as a homing rain of arrows. During this period just strafe around at a safe distance until your NPC army reach him and he switches to melee attacks. At this point you want to hop on Torrent and run in with the rest of your allies.

Mounting up for this battle isn’t 100% required, but due to the incredible onslaught of his moves, it’s highly recommended to stay mobile on horseback unless you are an expert at dodging rapid attacks. This is where the battle becomes a little unpredictable. Radahn has many powerful wide reaching attacks, and he moves around incredibly fast.

He will start lashing out at the various summoned NPCs, killing most of them with ease. It is during these periods of distraction that you want to dash past on Torrent and execute a hit and run. Try and pick a weapon with good range and damage because you will only be hitting him once or twice per pass (Bleed doesn’t hurt either).

  1. Try to mostly hit him in the back, as he will likely be attacking forward when trying to hit your summoned allies.
  2. Your goal is to never be the center of attention, and run away any time he turns to you.
  3. Stick around too long, and it’s more than likely you’ll be caught in a sweeping strike, stunning Torrent long enough that you won’t be able to dash away in time to evade a killing blow.

advertisement Keep in mind that most of his attacks are multi-hit combos. His most punishable attacks are his double weapon overhead slams. He has 2-3 different ones so just keep an eye on him. Anytime you see him slam both his weapons into the ground is an opening to attack.

Just be careful of the purple charged blades, which result in a massive explosion when he pulls them back out of the ground. If you are lucky your allies may even hit him enough times to trigger a stagger, at which point you can hop off Torrent and get a powerful attack in. You should also consider crafting tons of Rowa Raisins to feed Torrent during parts of the battle where you’re not under attack.

Losing Torrent in a battle like this can often spell instant death, and your mount doesn’t always regen to full health when you die and respawn – so top him off before going back for another attempt! Radahn also has a few ranged blade attacks to keep in mind, the first a volley of purple orbs that can be easily dodged by strafing.

  1. The second is a wave of electricity that runs across the ground, which you need to double-jump over with Torrent – and leaping over this dive attack can often give you a free hit or two.
  2. When Radahn reaches 50% health he will leap into the sky, disappearing from the battle for about 10 seconds.
  3. Use this time to heal and look for any nearby summon signs, which will reappear for anyone who was killed during phase one.

Keep an eye on the sky, because you will be able to see Radahn coming as he shoots back down to earth. At this point, you’ll also get one more ally to summon who has been added to the mix: Castellan Jerren, the master of ceremonies for the festival who wields a fiery flamberge.

  • Note – You may only be able to summon co-operators so many times before their summon signs stop appearing among the dunes.
  • This means you won’t always be able to let them do all the heavy lifting for you – so getting in your hits where it counts can be crucial to victory.
  • In phase two Radahn gains some new tricks, but with your refreshed gang of summoned allies backing you the strategy remains mostly the same.

His attacks become more powerful and gain wider ranges or more serious effects. You need to focus up and redouble your efforts here and not let the fight go long enough for Radahn to kill all your allies again, or use his powerful meteor summons which are both difficult to dodge and deadly.

  1. All in all, this is a boss battle that can be considered at least partially luck based.
  2. If your summoned allies stay alive and do their job Radahn may never even look at you, letting you get free hits and staggers.
  3. But if he kills them all off with one or two combos you may be left running for your life.

Once you’ve mastered the above mentioned patterns it will just come down to the number of attempts, so keep at it and eventually the festival will end with you the victor. Killing Radahn will get you the Remembrance of the Starscourge, and Radahn’s Great Rune,

How many elder lords are in the Elden Ring?

Elden Ring has a handful of mandatory boss fights in a sea of optional ones. While it is a very good idea to do as many optional fights as possible to gain runes to level up, it is also good to know which fights are absolutely unskippable to complete the story of Elden Ring,

Being mandatory does not make these fights easy; in fact, they make up some of the hardest battles to win in the game. While there are over one hundred Elden Ring bosses, only 12 of them are mandatory. If a player stuck to only these bosses, they would miss out on a lot of the game such as the entirety of the Weeping Peninsula, Caelid, Mt.

Gelmir, and the Consecrated Snowfield. Additionally, they would miss out on nearly all side quests, which will give them less room in what ending they get.
