Is it OK to use guides for Elden Ring?

While many players enjoy working through games on their own, Elden Ring’s difficulty makes referencing game guides before starting a necessity. What Is Elden Ring Adventure Guide Since the initial of open-world games and the first fully scaled on-foot open-world game that would go on to inspire the original The Legend of Zelda, much has changed in terms of how developers address uninhibited freedom. While the genre has become marginally stale and nearly predictable over the last decade and a half, some titles like Elden Ring offer a different take on the open-world formula,

Nowadays, nearly every title under the sun has a dedicated walkthrough or strategy guide somewhere on the internet. The more complex the game design, the more detailed the available information, but not all franchises benefit from a persnickety approach. FromSoftware’s installments, on the other hand, often call for several unsolicited pitstops along the way, and without the much-needed attention to detail, progressing through some of their content would be nothing short of improbable.

If Elden Ring ‘s signature difficulty doesn’t encourage players to peruse various tips and tricks on how to make their journey through The Lands Between more feasible, the existence of ten starting classes certainly should. Unlike other open-world RPG entries, Elden Ring does not promote a single character build nor draw a line between some of its classes. What Is Elden Ring Adventure Guide It can be overwhelming when trying to choose a class build, as each is unique and multifaceted. Without the knowledge to make an informed decision at the beginning of their journey, players can experience many shortcomings depending on the build they pick.

  1. For instance, a tank build is not exclusive to a single class, and there is no one way of addressing its stats, abilities and equipment.
  2. While Vagabond tanks may prove more sustainable in the long run, a hybrid Warrior tank will provide the necessary edge over many overworld opponents.
  3. In a similar vein, long- and mid-range mages boasting high Intelligence can rely on the benefits of starting as an Astrologer or Prophet, whereas Confessor and Prisoner mages are better suited for melee-focused DPS spell-casting.

Determining which playstyle the players are most comfortable with is crucial to defining their Elden Ring experience. Of course, approaching the harsh nature of The Lands Between with a sense of familiarity will help. Still, the newly introduced open-world setting is bound to leave even the most skilled of Souslborne veterans with an impaired sense of direction. What Is Elden Ring Adventure Guide While Elden Ring may be friendlier and more inclusive than previous FromSoftware installments, it is by no means easier. In fact, many argue that its difficulty curve is somewhat steeper, a fact that the game’s director stands by, As the overworld sports more prominent difficulty spikes between areas and main bosses, players will find that they need to invest significantly more time into grinding if they wish to stand a chance.

Opting for a difficult character build or going in blind will only hinder the players’ progress and prompt them to reconsider if investing time in the game is worthwhile. A recycled journey may not be too big of a deal, but new beginnings are more suitable for a New Game Plus because they add meaning to the initial playthrough and make achievements much more enjoyable in hindsight.

Of course, there is no harm in uncovering Elden Ring ‘s secrets without any guidance, but players should keep in mind that they will not get much breathing space. With increased health, varying resistances, a slew of long-range attacks and insane hitboxes, every overworld opponent stands as a testament that The Lands Between require some form of prior preparation, which is not exclusive to the available checkpoints.

  • Aside from the obvious benefits of knowing what to do and what to look out for, game guides will help players locate powerful armaments and important opportunities scattered across the overworld.
  • Since victories in Elden Ring love preparation, players can always stay several steps ahead simply by making an informed decision and referencing a game guide or two.

What do you do in Elden Ring Beginners Guide?

What to do first in Elden Ring – First things first, it’s best to establish where you have to go on the critical path – and that’s Castle Stormveil. You’ll discover this when you light the first Site of Grace – think of these resting points as Elden Ring’s bonfires – with the light emerging from the top pointing you in the direction you must go next. What Is Elden Ring Adventure Guide However, resist the temptation to go straight there. Though that direction offers some essential upgrades we’ll want to pick up, you’ll want to put off reaching the Castle itself for a few hours yet. Here is what you should do first in Elden Ring:

Visit the Church of Elleh just north of where you begin (be sure to avoid the powerful Tree Sentinel on the way!) to find a merchant, Kale, who can sell you a Crafting Kit and Cookbooks, and if you want to explore some nearby cave dungeons, a torch,

Ideally, your first port of call should be Gatefront Ruins. This is along the critical path, next to a gate where you can approach Castle Stormveil, but has two useful items – the Map Fragment for the area, and a Whetstone Knife to equip Ash of War weapon abilities, At this point, you’ll be wondering how to level up, Visit the Grace just east or west of Gatefront Ruins, and you’ll be visited by Melina. This is where you’ll also get the horse, Torrent, helping you explore the region faster and easier.

If you want some bitesize dungeons next, then it’s worth exploring some local caves. Again, you’ll need a torch before setting off, and the bosses inside – Demi Human Chief, Beastman of Farum Azula and Erdtree Burial Watchdog among them – offer a healthy challenge and some decent rewards. Though you are warned against visiting Agheel Lake to the east from several characters, it’s worth skirting around the outside and heading along the river to the north. After an invasion, you’ll want to visit Patches, who has an item which can help you with a critical path story boss very soon. It’s also where you can purchase a Stonesword Key – allowing you to access specific locked areas. The lake is also where you can find our recommendation for the best weapon in the opening hours, the Twinblade. Chances are you’ll need to increase your stats to equip it, however – our Rune farming methods might help here. If you want to cast magic in particular, then it’s worth finding a staff location,

Whichever weapon you choose, it’s worth finding some Smithing Stones to upgrade. There are two locations in Limgrave we’d recommend to visit – a mine-like dungeon north-west of the lake, or a troll-covered field in nearby Stormhill, not far from Castle Stormveil. Finally, there are some Flask upgrades within reach to help you heal better – and if you are happy to get some help in battle, searching for some summoning spirits won’t hurt either.

At this point, you should have access to a good weapon, a levelled up character, and a greater understanding of how things work. The above points just scratch the surface of what Limgrave has in store – let alone the rest of the game, most of which is technically accessible from the off if you know where to go.

  1. Feel free to roam and take it all in at your own pace – there’s something new and surprising around just about every corner – and when you’re ready, make a proper start on the critical path.
  2. Once you have settled on a starting class and starting Keepsake item, you should first work out how to level up, how to respec and use Ashes of War,

What is Adventure 2 Elden Ring?

Elden Ring Journey 2 – As any Souls fan will tell you, multiple playthroughs are part of the core FromSoftware experience, and Elden Ring is no different. While this is typically referred to as New Game+, Elden Ring refers to these repeat playthroughs as a new “Journey.” After beating the final boss in Elden Ring, you’ll be asked if you want to start Journey 2.

  • This is basically new Game+.
  • You have the option to move ahead into Journey 2 and start from the beginning of the game again, or hold off and continue playing your current playthrough.
  • If you choose to wait and stay in your current game, you can acquire any Great Runes, weapons or armor you may have missed, defeat any leftover optional bosses, or complete any remaining quest chains.

The only thing you can’t do is try for an alternative ending (this can only be done in a new Journey). If you choose to stay in your current Journey, you can visit the Roundtable Hold at any point to begin Journey 2 at any time.

Is Elden Ring guide or blind?

Play Elden Ring Blind, It’s Worth It Video game guide writers are the metaphorical floor that keep most games media sites afloat. A reliable source of walkthroughs, tips, and general stuff to aid players, it can be tempting to lean on them when the old noggin gets tested one too many times.

  • This applies to From Software games more than most, with mysterious NPC storylines, lack of actual quest markers or mission logs, and general *waves hand at From Software* of it all.
  • But Elden Ring is an experience best played blind, with whatever level or experience or inexperience you might possess.

Elden Ring starts like many From Software games, you wake up in a cave, explore a little bit, and are thrown immediately into a boss fight. Unless you’re some kind of melee savant, you’re probably just gonna get ruined here – unlike the starting fights of Dark Souls 3 or Demon’s Souls Remake which are fairly surmountable.

A little later, when introduced to the mammoth open world, you’ll stumble across the Tree Sentinel, a big obnoxious fecker on a horse. Predictably, he’ll punish you for taking him on too early. These moments, and the hundreds more spread throughout Elden Ring, are the moments where – instead of playing blind – it can be tempting to Google “Tree Guardian How To Beat”, or whatever variation you prefer.

But Elden Ring, more so than any other From Software game, is designed to keep the player exploring. It knows that you’ll encounter enemies and areas that you can’t beat immediately, and uses that to head you off to another direction. The trick is in the discovery of these themes.

  1. It quickly, and painfully, becomes obvious that a new Tarnished isn’t supposed to take on Tree Sentinel.
  2. He will absolutely one shot you without remorse.
  3. Stubbornness exists, and you could take him on forty times over the course of two hours to eventually beat him, but you could also spend those two hours exploring Limgrave, the starting area.

You’ll be able to locate dungeons, optional bosses, items, and NPCs that will help you power up and eventually take on the Tree Sentinel on level terms. This same rule applies throughout Elden Ring. I’m currently 40 hours in, and probably (although it’s hard to say for sure) over the halfway mark.

Just now I discovered an area which, at the end, had a regular enemy. A golden knight, wielding the power of lightning, who was fully capable of two shotting me with any attack. Could I have kept trying to beat him, dodging swings of electricity, barely clinging onto life? Probably. But the value of exploring Elden Ring blind, without using a guide or YouTube video to know where I’m “supposed” to go at any point, means that these discoveries feel much more organic.

Less clinical, if you will. Many, many hours ago I found a lava spewing dragon lizard that absolutely wrecked me. Repeatedly. I was under the impression I was following the critical path, and was therefore incredibly confused as to why this boss was so hard to take down.

Eventually it dawned on me, and all of my mates who I was hosting an Elden Ring party with, that I was definitely not on the critical path. This made the arrival at where I was supposed to be feel damn near transformative, as I was back on a level playing field with opposing enemies and their respective bosses.

Last night I went back to the lava spewing dragon lizard, and destroyed him. Discoveries like this just wouldn’t happen if I was permanently following instruction. Finding out on your own terms the next best route, either for your build, your level, or for the story, is endlessly satisfying.

It’s what makes Elden Ring feel so special when compared to the relatively linear offerings of previous From Software games. Where something like Bloodborne or Sekiro might have you running into a wall, Elden Ring offers you dozens of alternate routes. Taking on Margit – the boss blocking access to Stormveil Castle – immediately is a recipe for disaster.

But the entirety of the preceding area is ripe for exploration, providing hours of entertainment. Elden Ring isn’t a particularly easy game, to say the least. I’d go so far as to say that the reports of it being the most “approachable” From Software game is a complete fabrication, one said by people with much more genre experience than most.

The open world is mind-bogglingly large, to the point of choice paralysis at times. The bosses are very often oppressive in their difficulty – although never insurmountable thankfully. So, for those that genuinely want to use walkthroughs, guides, and any other material to make their journey through Elden Ring easier, please do.

Hell, I have a chronic issue with remembering times, dates, names, items, places, and everything in between, both in real life and video games. This makes trying to keep track of the irritatingly obtuse and/ or ambiguous NPC side quests in Elden Ring an effort in futility for me, and likely many of you.

Honestly, if it wasn’t for Google, I’d have missed massive chunks of every ‘Quest’ – for lack of a better term – in Elden Ring. No-one is infallible, me included, but trust me when I say that using guides as sparingly as possible is a path to guaranteed surprise, excitement, and everything that comes with that.

Usually death. I’ll never be the guy that insists people play a game a certain way. Elden Ring is shaping up to be one of my favorite games of the year, for a variety of reasons. If a walkthrough is what you need to get through it, and maybe even see what I’m seeing after so many hours with it, then that’s fantastic.

  1. But, where possible, play Elden Ring ‘Blind’.
  2. Go in without spoilers, explore the world without a clue of what’s hiding around the corner.
  3. I promise you it’s worth it.
  4. Hell, maybe you’ll even find something that I missed, or something that the Wiki doesn’t know yet, anyway.
  5. As usual, our review for Elden Ring – written by Kyle, not myself – will be up as soon as we can comfortably clear the game and summarize our thoughts.

Follow us on or if you wanna see when that goes live, or ! I’ve been playing video games in some form or another for nearly two decades. My favourite campaign of all time is Halo: Combat Evolved and my favourite multiplayer of all time is Overwatch, with a dash of Halo 3.

What do guiding statues do Elden Ring?

Elden Ring: All you need to know: tips and tricks –

Activate all the Sites of Grace: although they are not always on your way, it is important to interact with all the new Sites of Grace you find. They work like Dark Souls bonfires and in them, you can use fast travel, level up, modify ashes and talk to certain characters, among other actions. In addition, almost every time you die you will reappear in the last one you touched. Stakes of Marika: these figures are generally found in areas where a demanding fight or an encounter with a final boss awaits you. If you are near one when you die you can choose whether to be reborn in one of them or return to the previous Site of Grace. Find the map of each area: when you explore a region for the first time, if you open the map you will only see something similar to a brown cardboard. However, if you zoom in and look closely you will be able to locate a small drawing in the shape of a pillar. In them, you will always find the complete map of the scenario in which you are. Don’t be afraid to die: unless you have a lot of runes on you, you should know that Elden Ring is more generous than other From Software games in this regard. On one hand, there are Sites of Grace everywhere and you won’t usually have to repeat a long walk. On the other hand, fast travel is immediate and you will be able to return to any place in a matter of seconds. Do not kill any NPC: a classic that any Dark Souls fan has engraved in their memory. There are characters that you can’t even attack, but others can be killed. In the first playthrough, don’t do it under any circumstances, as you may lose different content related to them. Visit the Roundtable Hold often: this place is a nexus that serves as a meeting point for several important NPCs such as the blacksmith and various merchants. When you pass an important part of the story ( like killing a demigod), use the quick trip to pay a visit, talk to everyone and check if there are any new items to buy. Equip the weapon with two hands: the combination of buttons that you must use for this is very different from the one found in Dark Souls. In Elden Ring, once you have it equipped in one hand, you have to press triangle + R1 on PlayStation or Y + RB on Xbox. Fleeing is not for cowards: the world of Elden Ring is huge and you can explore it with total freedom, but always with the consideration that there are many creatures capable of killing you in the blink of an eye. If you come across a dragon or a large enemy, it is very likely that you will not always have enough power to face it. Call your horse and run out of the area; you’ll come back another time. Hunchback statues: okay, we don’t know if they are called yet, but we can’t think of any other way to describe them. They are statues in the shape of a creature with a long, bent neck. If you interact with them, they will emit a beam of blue light that always indicates the direction of a point of interest. In the vast majority of the time, they point to nearby dungeons. Follow the ghosts: if you see an illuminated banner, approach it and press the inspect button. A kind of ghost will appear and start walking slowly with the intention of showing you something important. They often guide you to dungeons that you have not yet discovered. Look for churches on the map: in almost every church in the world, you will find a Site of Grace and seeds or other objects needed to improve the power of the health vials. It is easy to locate them from afar by visually scanning the environment, as they all have a similar structure. Enter all the dungeons you see: regardless of whether you are willing to complete it or not, it is a good idea to access all of them to activate the Site of Grace that you can find as soon as you enter. This way they will not only be marked on the map; you can also use the teleport to return to them when you want to explore it and face the boss that awaits you inside. Collect plants and minerals: the world of Elden Ring is full of crafting items, ingredients for miraculous mixtures and weapon enhancement items. From flowers in a forest to precious stones in the depths of a mine. These items are weightless and you can store as many as you want, so don’t hesitate to collect everything you see. Defeat the Tree Guardian: these enemies are tougher than others, as they act as optional bosses. A good tactic is to fight on horseback, approaching them to land a couple of blows and fleeing as soon as they are ready to cast their spells. Finishing them off is highly recommended, as they always drop interesting items for crafting miraculous mixtures. These trees are easily seen on the map, as they are drawn on a large scale. Use the Flask of Wondrous Physick: this potion can only be used once per life and to create it you need tears that you will find while exploring. The container is located in a church in the northwest part of the West Limgrave map. The formula you want to carry inside must be elaborated in the Sites of Grace menu. If you achieve a beneficial effect, save it to take it just before entering a fight against a boss. Don’t sell items: the number of Runes that merchants will offer you for them are ridiculous compared to what you can earn by defeating enemies. It is better to keep any item in case you need it in the future than to sell it in exchange for a sum that you can get in a couple of minutes. Use the torches: they are indispensable for exploring a dark cave, and also do not work badly as a weapon in case you run into an enemy and do not want to change weapon and the darkness takes over everything. It is not complicated that any enemy of the West Limgrave that carries one will drop it after being defeated. If you do not want to wait, you can buy one from the Santa Claus-looking merchant in the church you see a few minutes after starting the game. Study the enemy: if you encounter an opponent you don’t know, don’t rush to attack. Raise your shield or keep your distance to check how they move, when they move and what kind of attacks they make. Knowledge has no limits, and there is no better way to face combat than knowing your enemy. Use stealth: Elden Ring offers the possibility to overcome some situations without any enemy seeing you. You can crouch (left stick) in the open field to hide in bushes and other elements until you can hunt your enemy from behind. This way you will avoid making noise and you will be able to clear the area of obstacles. If you can’t take on a boss, summon allies: the Furlcalling Finger Remedy is a consumable item that reveals the summoning symbols left by other players. This item is often found in many places, but you can also create them in the crafting menu. If you can’t defeat a final boss, don’t hesitate to use it near the Site of Grace closest to the combat room, as you may find other users willing to lend you a hand in battle. Use the Guard Counter: this powerful move consists of blocking an enemy attack with the shield and immediately press the strong attack button (R2 on PlayStation or RT on Xbox) to respond to the opponent with a practically fatal blow, which will sometimes kill or stun it for a couple of seconds. Be careful that the opponent is not in the middle of a combo, since you have to do it once it launches its last blow.

(Image credit: Tyler C. / FromSoftware) The quests in Elden Ring aren’t easy to find and even when you do, the steps to complete them aren’t always clear. You don’t need to finish NPC sidequests to finish the game but if you overlook them completely you could miss out on valuable gear, items, or different Elden Ring endings (opens in new tab),

The quests themselves vary in length and difficulty. Some are simple and only require a couple of steps to complete, while others include boss fights (opens in new tab) and can take you right up to the endgame areas.
