Is Elden Ring easy?

I am an unskilled gamer. My timing is bad. I button mash. I don’t have the patience to learn an enemy’s moves. I’m more likely to give up on a hard game than to finish it. And when I first started Elden Ring, I thought it was a hard game. I even wrote an article about it for esteemed satire site Hard Drive.

  • But it turns out I was wrong.
  • After playing Elden Ring on and off for a few months—and getting no more skilled in the process—I have now beaten the game.
  • It was easy.
  • And if it was easy for me, it can be easy for almost anyone.
  • I’ll tell you how.
  • You can look everything up.
  • That’s right.
  • Stumped by a boss? Look it up.

Confused by a puzzle? Look it up. Not sure what to do next in Elden Ring ‘s massive open world? Look it up, Look it up, Look it up, Through the awesome power of looking it up, an unskilled gamer like me can craft a build that clears out the highest-level Elden Ring bosses in like, 45 seconds.

In my case, all I needed was a grinding location, a special katana, some choice bell bearings, a specific summon, and a collection of talismans. Crafting this build took me across the Lands Between, through much of the main storyline, and into some dope side quests, too. I experienced this perfect game in all its glory, and it got easier and easier the whole way.

Because—and I cannot stress this enough—I used the massive collection of information gathered by gaming journalists and wiki editors, available free at any time, for help at every step. Elden Ring doesn’t need an easy mode. It’s already as easy as you want it to be.

  • Of course, there are scolds who think looking it up is cheating.
  • These are people who, deep down, wish Elden Ring did have an easy mode.
  • Because without a lower difficulty setting, there’s no objective separation between these players and anyone else playing Elden Ring —even the button mashers like me.

There’s nobody for them to look down on. We are all equal in Hidetaka Miyazaki’s eyes. For some gamers, that’s a tough pill to swallow. They need a hierarchy. So, they resort to making up a set of rules—one that conveniently maps onto however they play the game.

  • If they don’t use the wiki, the wiki is cheating.
  • If they don’t use the Mimic Tear, the Mimic Tear is cheating.
  • They are guided by the feeling that what they’re doing is more real, more vital than what other people are doing.
  • We all feel that way sometimes.
  • So, hey, more power to them.
  • That’s fine.
  • But I don’t have to care.

Think my Rivers of Blood bleed build + maxed out Mimic Tear is cheating? Okay. Don’t care. Think using the IGN walkthrough is lazy? That’s cool. Don’t care. And because we’re playing the same game, on the same difficulty, watching the same credits when we finally triumph, I don’t have to care.

  1. Because we’re the same, you and me.
  2. Except I’m not on Reddit.
  3. But you know what? It’s not even about that.
  4. What makes Elden Ring so easy, ultimately, has nothing to do with difficulty settings, or grinding, or i-frames, or whatever else.
  5. Elden Ring is easy because it’s a video game.
  6. And in video games, you are always improving.

You are always moving forward, gaining power, vanquishing foes who once seemed untouchable. You are never truly stuck. You are never helpless. You are not living in a loop of work and sleep, grinding out runes that mostly go to the bosses, making them more powerful while you get only enough runes to stay at pretty much the same level, with the default gear, for the rest of your life.

How big is Elden Ring?

Installation Size & File Systems: 50 GB – When Does Elden Ring Come Out Starting off with the least interesting of all size considerations: Elden Ring’s file size. At the time of writing this article, Elden Ring’s Steam version is sitting pretty at 50 GB in total, In comparison, Assassin’s Creed Valhalla with its immense Dawn of Ragnarok expansion pack should be about twice as big, at 100ish GB in total.

It’s a curious discrepancy, because we can assure you with utmost certainty that Elden Ring isn’t really much smaller than Valhalla, Depending on how you qualify original content, it’s potentially several times as substantial, but that’s a topic for another day. The trick lies in asset quality, really.

As aesthetically striking and visually pleasing as Elden Ring might be, FromSoftware hasn’t ever been particularly meticulous about the technical side of its games, To that end, it’s easy enough to save space when your textures and assets aren’t as detailed as those used in some other games might be.

Is Elden Ring fun?

Many ways to play – As a longtime JRPG and MMO player, my favorite games tend to have big, colorful environments. Life is dreary enough as is and I’m generally hesitant to spend too much time in bleak, colorless worlds. Elden Ring doesn’t break continuity with the visual style of From’s other games, but the world is beautiful, expansive and grand more often than it is oppressive (giant ants notwithstanding, fuck those ants).

The game is littered with musty medieval dungeons and cramped mines, but at any given time you can pop back out into the overworld and watch the sun set. The juxtaposition between the vast, often evocative open world and the tense, interior parts of the game makes the latter digestible for someone like me who tends to get a little twitchy when I spend too much time indoors in games.

Double indoors — that’s no good! If you’ve thought about playing Elden Ring but you’re hesitant, or if the game’s reputation for being hard is putting you off, know that there are lots of ways to mitigate the challenge. For one, you can just grind away, killing small enemies and overleveling enough to make the next dragon-handed monstrosity you meet a bit more manageable.

  • If you’re hitting the wall, you can also switch your play style, tossing magical beams at range instead of chipping away up close with whatever massive, rusty implement of destruction you’ve been swinging around.
  • There’s also stealth, archery, agility-focused builds, weapons that inflict status effects and faith — a sort of parallel path to traditional magic that unlocks stuff like dragon incantations, healing spells and a lot of cool utility options.

If all else fails you can go old school and pick up a big ass sword and shield and make that work. In spite of my initial less than stellar build (dex/faith/mistakes), figuring out a play style is a lot of fun, even though you’ll be stomped, gored and magicked to death many, many times in the process. Image Credits: Bandai Namco/FromSoftware I started the game with a one-handed sword, faith-based magic and a dowdy habit-looking set of armor. Many hours later, I find myself mostly playing more like a religiously fervent version of X-Men’s Wolverine, gruesome claws aglow.

At some point along the way I picked up a katana, a choice I recommend to anyone in any context, and a frosty axe that lets me freeze enemies around me with ice crystals. And that’s only scratching the surface. Much like Monster Hunter, a series I really fell for over the last couple of years, switching among any of these weapons totally changes how the game feels.

It’s a lot of fun! Elden Ring is actually many, many games in one and that’s a boon for anyone hesitant to dive into their first FromSoftware title. You don’t have to be a diehard fan of the developer for this game and its infamous combat to click for you, especially if you’re willing to experiment.

Personally, I don’t have enough gaming time to git gud. I prefer to git gud enough — life is short and I have a lot of other interests! Happily, Elden Ring offers okay to unskilled players like myself a whole toolkit for turning on easy mode when we just don’t give a shit enough not to. That includes everything from obscure leveling shortcuts like killing a somnolent dragon in cold blood (Thanks, YouTube! Sorry, dragon!) to summoning AI-powered ghost buddies to bail you out or relying on ranged magic attacks instead of bashing things in the face.

When all else fails, you can summon another human player and hope they’re not just popping into your game to teach you a harsh lesson about self-reliance. Of course, no matter how many helpful difficulty hacks you toggle on, this is still a hard game and playing it at all will be a time commitment that plenty of casual gamers just won’t be able to take on. Which is the longest game in the world?

1 Xenoblade Chronicles 3 (61 Hours) – When Does Elden Ring Come Out Xenoblade Chronicles is another series that takes the fight to the machines, albeit of a different kind, and its third part came out in July 2022. This game rightfully holds the number one spot clocking in upwards of 60 hours in the main storyline alone, yet that’s still not even the longest time for a game within this series,

The first Xenoblade Chronicles reserves that title by being a whopping 68.5 hours long. You’ll find similar themes and parallels to other JRPGs like some mentioned here, but especially the Kingdom Hearts series, where you have members of your party take on foes together and wield the iconic Keyblade as your weapon.

Xenoblade Chronicles 3’s immersive story, level design, and combat loop amidst the wondrous open-world environment will leave you lost in it in no time. NEXT: The Longest Console Games Of The Generation

What time does Elden Ring come out in timezone?

FromSoftware’s latest action RPG Elden Ring is nearly ready to take the world by storm across all announced platforms. However, the release specifics may vary depending on if you’re on consoles or PC. Let’s break it down! First and foremost, Elden Ring comes out Friday, Feb.25, 2022, for PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, and PC via Steam,

  1. Publisher Bandai Namco initially set Elden Ring’s release date for last month until a delay ripped away our hopes and dreams.
  2. No matter, the game is out soon! Par of why Elden Ring is making everyone go wide-eyed in anticipation is due to George R.R.
  3. Martin’s involvement, even if he didn’t write much,

Martin echos the sentiment that it looks incredible, though. Whether Elden Ring surpasses Dark Souls as director Hidetaka Miyazaki claims remains to be seen. Worldwide ELDEN RING Release Schedule. So that you may know, and in knowing, plan your actions.
