Where do I go after killing the first boss Elden Ring?
Elden Ring: Grand Lift of Dectus and Altus Plateau – You’ll eventually need to go to Atlus Plateau to reach the next part of your Elden Rin g adventure, though the paths to that area are a bit complicated. Most players will want to take the Grand Lift of Dectus, which brings you to Atlus Plateau in a (mostly) painless way.
- To access that lift, you’ll need to locate the two halves of the Dectus Medallion : one in Fort Haight and the other in Fort Faroth.
- The latter is definitely going to be tougher to acquire if you’re still at a relatively low level, while the former can be picked up very early into the game.
- With the medallion pieces in hand, head back to the main gate of Raya Lucaria Academy and interact with the magical seal you encountered there.
The path ahead will lead you to the lift. You can reach Atlus Plateau without using the Great Lift, but that path is definitely a little more difficult if you’re not “overleveled” by this point in the game. If that sounds like something you’re interested in, though, then interact with the magic seal mentioned above and follow the river path in the area it leads you to (you’ll basically head to the northwest of the area you’re transported to).

What do you get after beating Margit?
Margit boss fight rewards – (Image credit: Bandai Namco) Out on a limb?
(Image credit: Bandai Namco) The next boss in Elden Ring is even tougher, but we can show you how to beat Godrick in Elden Ring just here to beat the Grafted King. For defeating Margit in Elden Ring, you’ll be rewarded with a heap of Runes and the Talisman Pouch item.
- This key item gives you one extra Talisman slot for your character at no cost.
- Talismans are small trinkets that can be equipped to your character and offer a variety of special bonuses.
- For example, the Crimson Amber Ring Elden Ring Keepsake that players can choose when creating their character is a Talisman, and players can find other Talismans from certain bosses and out in the world.
The number of Runes that Margit drops seems to vary based on your character’s current level, with the number of Runes increasing with higher levels. From our experience, we received 9,000 Runes for defeating him at level 19, allowing us to reach level 22, but defeating him at level 29 got us 12,000 Runes and allowed us to reach level 31.
- Either way, you should be able to level up a couple of times at the very least.
- A Site of Grace conveniently appears in the area so that you can do so.

Where is the next story boss after Margit?
Limgrave and Stormveil Castle – Before we jump into a guide of the first region of Limgrave, it’s important to note that you don’t actually start there. Once you have decided on a starting class and Keepsake, you’ll begin at the Chapel of Anticipation, Don’t worry, you’re supposed to die at the first boss – this is a FromSoftware game after all – and once you do you’ll begin the game proper. Once you respawn, you’ll be in the Stranded Graveyard – which actually has a missable tutorial – make your way out of the cave and you’ll finally come to the open world of The Lands Between. Now the guidance of grace will appear on your map screen as yellow directional arrows, you can use these as vague indicators of the critical path.
Activate the Site of Grace in front of you and you’ll see a church just down the road, go to it. There will also be a huge knight riding a horse – this is the Tree Sentinel – and he’s going to be quite the challenge at this point. Our recommendation is to give a wide berth and head to the church.
Now you’re at the Church of Ellah, where you can upgrade some weapons and purchase goods from the merchant. They sell a crafting kit for 300 Runes – this is an essential item that allows you to craft consumables from ingredients in the wild – so make sure you collect the Runes by defeating nearby enemies or using a Rune item from your inventory (there’s one right outside the Church’s front entrance, in case you missed it).
A streak of light should be emitting from the Site of Grace at the church, head in that direction and follow the road northwards.
Following the road over the hill will reveal an enemy encampment, circle around it to the left and you’ll see a massive stone structure and a Site of Grace, make sure you rest here.
Once you do, a cutscene will play, then accept Melina’s offering and she’ll allow you to level up at every Site of Grace and give you Torrent, your spectral steed for the duration of Elden Ring. We’ve marked the Gatefront Site of Grace’s location on the below map.
While you are here in Gatefront Ruins, it’s also worth picking up the Whetstone Knife and the first Limgrave map fragment, At this point we recommend you explore Limgrave for a while, obtain items and equipment, earn some Runes and mark tough locations so you can come back to them later.
- Our what to do first in Elden Ring page goes into some specific locations you might want to consider, while we also have dedicated pages on the best early weapon and where to find a staff and sorcery teacher early,
- Otherwise, freely roam and see what you discover – the story can wait! To get to Stormveil Castle from the Gatefront Site of Grace, simply follow the road under the stone structure, and continue on that path for a short while.
You’ll come across another glowing tree and Golden Seed, so be sure to pick that up.
The road then bends around to the left, at which point you should be met with a hoard of enemies guarding the entrance to Stormveil. Behind the enemies there’s a long tunnel, head down it and activate the Site of Grace.
On the other end of the tunnel you’ll meet your first major boss in Elden Ring, Margit The Fell Omen, You need to beat this boss to gain access to Stormveil Castle. This is a huge challenge – so if you are struggling, then don’t worry about needing to explore Limgrave more first.
- You can also skip Stormveil Castle if you want to go to the Liurnia area, where there are some useful things to find which might help – including some of the best early armor sets,
- You can see how to do this in the following video: You must defeat Margit to complete Elden Ring, however, so come back when you’re ready, and good luck! Once you’ve beaten Margit you can access Castle Stormveil by heading up the stone steps and you’ll see a closed off gate.
To your left is an opening, and there’s an NPC who can open up the gate for you. As they recommend though, it’s much easier if you go around the outside of Stormveil instead, through the big hole in the same room. As the first major Legacy Dungeon in Elden Ring, Stormveil Castle is a huge labyrinth. It isn’t too confusing, with paths opening up and loops being created as you go. Keep exploring until you come to the Secluded Cell Site of Grace, shown on the map and in-game image below.
Honestly, there are multiple ways to get there, and none of them are wrong. So explore, find items, beat enemies and level up until you arrive. Next to the Site of Grace is a fog gate, going through it will pit you against Godrick the Grafted, another essential boss along Elden Ring’s critical path.
You’ve reached Liurnia! Your next destination is the giant white building on the horizon – the Raya Lucaria Academy.

What armor is best before Margit?
Sage Armor Set – While there are a couple of interesting melee choices, most mage protection can seem a bit mediocre. However, since the aim of mages is to defeat enemies from distance and nimbly dodge their attacks rather than block them, you don’t need masses of physical resistances. This is where the Sage armor set comes in. While it likely has weaker resistances than your starting set, its lighter load means you can have greater flexibility with other parts of your equipment while still being able to dodge freely. You can get the Sage armor before you beat Margit, like all the other armor sets, but you have to use the hidden path north of Stormhill Shack to skip the castle like with the Royal Remains set.
Next, at the first Site of Grace in the Liurnia of the Lakes, go northeast to the Liurnia Highway South Site.
From there, drop down to the southwest into the shallow lake part of the map using the large stones protruding from the cliffs.
A little way in front of you, with spirit jellyfish floating outside, you can find Stillwater Cave. At a low level with a magic character you will most likely have to die and respawn to get out of the cave, but you’ll keep the armor after you’ve picked it up.
From the Site of Grace just inside the entrance, drop down and take a right into the cave. Don’t drop down to the left, instead run around the far side of the ledge.
Then, run and jump across the ledge in front of you.
Sprint past the enemies and through the passage in front of you. Then at the bottom, grab the item on the body in the poison pool. This is the Sage set. Now either high tail it out of there, or let death ferry you back to a Site of Grace with the mage armor safely in your pocket.

What happens if you beat the first boss in Elden Ring?
What happens when you beat the Grafted Scion at the start of Elden Ring? – Nothing. The fact is, the Grafted Scion is not at all a boss. It’s a regular mob enemy in the larger world of Elden Ring. You’ll find more Grafted Scions in your adventure later on, so beating one at the start isn’t really that big of a deal.
- Perhaps it can give you a great feeling of satisfaction, but apart from the Greatshield and a paired set of Straight Swords it drops, there’s nothing else to it.
- It doesn’t change the story, and you’ll still have to die to move on with the story.
- So, basically, there’s no point in trying to beat the Grafted Scion except for overcoming the game’s first-ever challenge.
As a reward, the game gives you two common pieces of equipment that you’ll eventually find elsewhere in the overworld. : Can you beat Elden Ring’s first boss, Grafted Scion?
