Grand Theft Auto V is a 2013 action-adventure game developed by Rockstar North and published by Rockstar Games, It is the seventh main entry in the Grand Theft Auto series, following 2008’s Grand Theft Auto IV, and the fifteenth instalment overall.
Set within the fictional state of San Andreas, based on Southern California, the single-player story follows three protagonists —retired bank robber Michael De Santa, street gangster Franklin Clinton, and drug dealer and gunrunner Trevor Philips —and their attempts to commit heists while under pressure from a corrupt government agency and powerful criminals.
The open world design lets players freely roam San Andreas’ open countryside and the fictional city of Los Santos, based on Los Angeles, The game is played from either a third-person or first-person perspective, and its world is navigated on foot and by vehicle.
- Players control the three lead protagonists throughout single-player and switch among them, both during and outside missions.
- The story is centred on the heist sequences, and many missions involve shooting and driving gameplay.
- A “wanted” system governs the aggression of law enforcement response to players who commit crimes.
Grand Theft Auto Online, the game’s online multiplayer mode, lets up to 30 players engage in a variety of different cooperative and competitive game modes. The game’s development began around the time of Grand Theft Auto IV ‘s release and was shared between many of Rockstar’s studios worldwide.
The development team drew influence from many of their previous projects such as Red Dead Redemption and Max Payne 3 and designed the game around three lead protagonists to innovate on the core structure of its predecessors. Much of the development work constituted the open world’s creation, and several team members conducted field research around California to capture footage for the design team.
The game’s soundtrack features an original score composed by a team of producers who collaborated over several years. Grand Theft Auto V was released in September 2013 for the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360, in November 2014 for the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One, in April 2015 for Windows, and in March 2022 for the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S,
Extensively marketed and widely anticipated, the game broke industry sales records and became the fastest-selling entertainment product in history, earning $800 million in its first day and $1 billion in its first three days. It received critical acclaim, with praise directed at its multiple protagonist design, open world, presentation and gameplay.
However, it caused controversies related to its depiction of violence and women. It won year-end accolades including Game of the Year awards from several gaming publications, and is considered one of seventh and eighth generation console gaming ‘s most significant titles and among the best video games ever made,

Why does GTA 6 take so long?
Take-Two Interactive and Rockstar Games are expected to launch the sixth edition of the popular open-world title Grand Theft Auto at the end of 2024. It has already been more than nine years since the last instalment of the franchise (GTA 5) was released and some fans are impatient about the release of GTA 6,
Meanwhile, the creators of the game have rolled out several updates for GTA 5 and have also remastered the older titles in the franchise, but that didn’t prove to be enough for the fans. Even after tackling a massive leak, the game’s creators have assured that GTA 6’s development is going well but fans have to wait for some more time to get their hands on the upcoming title.
According to a report by Comicbook.com, at a recent investor call, Take-Two CEO Strauss Zelnick has also explained why the company is taking so long to develop the game. The reason for the delay At the investor call, Take-Two’s CEO explained that it is better to delay the game than make it a failure.
- Zelnick discussed how the company was hit with lower sales in this fiscal year and also acknowledged the importance of waiting to release games until the developers are sure about their quality.
- He even mentioned that the company has experienced delays with other titles in the past but the final results have always been worth the wait.
The final versions of all the games from the studio have always offered improved experiences that have overshadowed the wait time for each title. Zelnick hopes that it will be the same with GTA 6. Fans might get a little impatient by waiting for the upcoming game but if the company releases the game in an unfinished state, none of the fans will be happy with the title.

Why did GTA V sell so well?
Grand Theft Auto: Online – When Grand Theft Auto 5 debuted on the PS3 and Xbox 360, it was arguably ahead of its time in many respects. While the mechanics at the core of its DNA have remained largely unchanged since the PS2-era, the way in which Rockstar Games has packaged the latest incarnation of its franchise is a radical departure from the norm.
That’s because unlike previous installments, GTA 5 comes complete with its own bespoke multiplayer spin-off. Creating Grand Theft Auto: Online as a fully fleshed out game-within-a-game, is the biggest reason why GTA 5 has become such a sales juggernaut. The way in which Rockstar Games has built GTA: Online to be an ever-evolving world is more in line with the live service games of the current generation, rather than the multiplayer experiences of the era it debuted in.
Considering the impact that the publisher has had on open-world games and third-person shooters in the past, this isn’t an entirely shocking turn of events. What’s been added to the mix online might not be the single-player DLC that players have been clamoring for, but more often than not it’s still substantial content that demands the attention of fans.
- Constantly expanding the list of things players can do online, specifically within a GTA sandbox, has helped to keep the game pinned to sales charts across the globe.
- With content drops making internet headlines on such a regular basis, it’s become almost impossible to avoid GTA 5 on the internet over the last decade.
With so many players continuing to invest money into GTA: Online via microtransactions, the publisher is clearly in no rush to move on from its success. Continually pushing GTA 5 is therefore a more lucrative investment than taking a risk on a brand-new replacement.

How much is GTA money in real life?
If you click on a link and make a purchase we may receive a small commission. Read our editorial policy, Real money can be spent on chips, though it cannot be cashed back out into actual money Update July 25, 2019: Some players have reported indicate that in certain regions, currency purchased with real money cannot be used in the casino, however, this may not be true across all regions. GamesIndustry.biz has reached out to Rockstar for clarification.
Original story: Grand Theft Auto V’s latest update, The Diamond Casino & Resort, adds the titular casino to its fictional Los Santos, but lets players use real money to play its games. The BBC reports that the casino’s chips can be purchased with in-game currency at a $1 to 1 chip ratio. GTA V’s money can be either earned in-game, or purchased with real-world money at a rate of $500,000 in GTA currency for $10 USD.
In addition, the casino only allows players to purchase $50,000(GTA) worth of chips per in-game day, or real-world hour. No GTA money or chips can be cashed out for real-world currency, which is notable especially in light of the fact that earlier this week, British MPs declared that FIFA’s in-game player packs and loot boxes were not gambling because there was no legitimate way to monetize their virtual contents after purchase.
Instead, that money can be used to purchase other in-game items, such as cars, weapons, or appearance-changing items. However, not every country sees it that way, as a number of countries have blocked the gambling minigames in GTA V. This happened similarly in another Rockstar title recently, Red Dead Redemption 2,
Unlike GTA V, Red Dead Redemption 2 notably does not allow players to use real money to purchase its special gambling currency.

How much was GTA 6 budget?
Ah, GTA 6, Gamers all over the world have been waiting not-so-patiently for the release of Rockstar Games ‘ next Grand Theft Auto title for years now – a new game was confirmed to be in development by the company earlier this year (albeit not with an official name yet), but as we approach the 10 year anniversary of GTA 5, it’s understandable that fans are wondering where on earth the new one is (be sure to take a look at our guide for everything we know so far ).
It’s no secret that GTA 6 is probably going to be one of the biggest games of all time, both in terms of hype and its actual scale. A huge leak, which surfaced online in September as a result of a network intrusion, saw gameplay footage and details about the game flood the internet, including (allegedly) map coordinates.
When lined up next to the GTA 5 map, it looks like it’ll be absolutely massive – it’s little wonder that the game is taking so long. With that in mind, one of the questions that many people have been asking is just how much money is Rockstar Games spending on GTA 6 ? While this isn’t the sort of information that the company tends to freely admit, we may already have the answer – and it’s apparently in the billions.
Following that aforementioned large leak, it was claimed that GTA 6 may have a budget of $2 billion (thanks, Sportskeeda ). This number is unprecedented – to put it into perspective, the most recent game in the Grand Theft Auto series, GTA 5, apparently cost around $265 million, Obviously, this is still an enormous amount of money, but it’s over seven times less than the supposed budget for GTA 6,
In fact, in terms of known budget figures, no other game has ever had a development cost in the billions before, so if this is true, it would be record breaking. It’s claimed, however, that GTA 6 ‘s supposed $2 billion budget isn’t all going towards the game’s development.
- Reportedly, the budget could cover everything from the marketing, publication and distribution, to the development of any additional DLC content and a potential online mode.
- If this is true, it sounds like the company are making some big plans to support the game into the future, perhaps for even longer than they have GTA 5,
At this time though, the $2 billion budget for GTA 6 hasn’t been officially confirmed – if we get word from Rockstar Games, we’ll be sure to update this article accordingly.
