Is Elden Ring worth the money?

Review – How Much Is Elden Ring On Ps4 Our Lead Features Editor, Jade King, gave Elden Ring a deserved glowing review, as FromSoftware’s masterpiece is certainly befitting a crown. Following the success of previous Souls titles, Bloodborne and Sekiro, Elden Ring manages to draw upon their best elements while refining the gameplay to near-perfection.

Jade highlights this, saying “FromSoftware has crafted an open world adventure that somehow surpasses all conceivable expectations.” It combines Dark Souls’ natural sense of discovery with the foreboding atmosphere of Bloodborne, while perfecting this combination with a combat system that feels equal parts Sekiro and Demon’s Souls.

Elden Ring is an unflinching masterpiece, and a marquee example of what this medium can achieve when it is willing to accept our investment without compromise. It comes as no surprise that Elden Ring received five stars, setting a new bar for all future FromSoftware titles and Soulslike games to chase.

How big is the world in Elden Ring?

Total Explored Map Size: 79 km² – How Much Is Elden Ring On Ps4 The exact size of the game’s overworld, The Lands Between, has been subject to many heated discussions online. The problem with the game’s map is that it keeps growing, No matter what you do, or how many bosses you kill – it’s going to loo k like you’ve seen it all, only for yet another massive region to open up moments later.

That’s how FromSoftware rolls, we suppose. And honestly, it’s hard not to be giddy when a game is as fun, engaging, and exciting as this keeps giving you more stuff to do and areas to explore. So! No complaints here! Now, this makes the game’s total overworld pretty hard to assess unless you’ve already beaten the game in full.

Thankfully, Reddit user Lusty-Batch has come up with a way to assess and compare The Lands Between with GTA V! Specifically, Lusty-Batch used the comparative size of the mount – Torrent – and a bridge to come up with a rough estimate of lengths, Then, they traveled across the entire Elden Ring overworld, only to finally come up with a hard number: 79 km².

How much did Elden Ring cost?

Let’s Talk Games: How Much Did It Cost To Make Vs How Much It Made It is always interesting, at least to me, to see a game’s numbers in terms of financial costs. And I am sure others are interested in that part of game development too. Some games cost an x amount of money but did not make the same amount when they launched, and some games made double the money when they were released.

In the late hours, I stumbled upon a piece of very interesting information that showed the exact numbers of total cost versus the amount of money made after a game was released, so I decided to share it with you. The first game that caught my attention was Red Dead Redemption 2. The game supposedly cost from $370 million to $570 million to make, and after its release, it made around $1.38 billion back in 2018.

The next game, which is a fan-favourite is Uncharted 4. This game needed $40 million to be completed, and after its release, it made around $1 billion. And the best of them all, Marvel Spider-Man. This game cost $100 million to be developed, and when it was released, it made a whopping $6.8 billion.

Wow, what a number. The game that caused the most controversy around its release is Elden Ring. This game had mixed opinions coming from the public, but that brought in $6.85 billion, while it cost $200 million to be made. I almost forgot to mention the one that baffled me the most. Fortnite needed $300k to be developed, and as you can see, other games’ numbers went into millions, even billions.

However, when Fortnite was released, it made more than $10 million. Yes, you read that right, 10 million dollars. If you have any other information like this, please share it with us in the comments below. And also, which game is worth the numbers? Why? : Let’s Talk Games: How Much Did It Cost To Make Vs How Much It Made

Does Elden Ring have a story?

‘Elden Ring’ Deserves To Win Best Narrative Godrick the Grafted FromSoftware, Inc

The Game Awards has announced its nominees for 2022, and one game, Elden Ring, stuck out as a nominee for Best Narrative. The decision attracted some derision on Twitter, with some asking how such a maddeningly obtuse game can possibly be nominated for a category officially defined as “outstanding storytelling and narrative development.”After all, it’s perfectly possible to play Elden Ring to completion and not really understand why you fought all those battles, or to miss every single character’s motivation, even your own.

Like Dark Souls, Elden Ring doesn’t really have a traditional story. Or at least, it doesn’t tell a straightforward story to the player through cutscenes and reams of exposition. There is a story there, along with layers of extraordinarily dense lore, but most is obscured behind a veil, riddled with holes; even the YouTubers who make a living explaining Elden Ring lore don’t really understand it all.

But scratch under the surface, and it is obvious that there is a great deal of thought put into this ruined world and its strange, beastly inhabitants, even if putting it all together can feel impossible. After all, not everyone has the time to wander the Lands Between, reading vague item descriptions, piecing together contextual clues and collecting the stingy scraps of narrative.

FromSoft has always incentivized its community of players to fill in the holes left in their games, whether it’s by writing tutorials, gameplay hints, or speculating on what, exactly, happened to these wretched places. Unraveling the history of the Lands Between, with its cast of demigods and nobles, bearing near-identical names, nursing grievances which are often left a complete mystery, players become storytellers themselves, participants in Elden Ring’s narrative.

While the exact details of the story are sometimes unknowable, there is no mistaking the themes. Elden Ring vibrates with senseless, cyclical violence; like its predecessor, the game forces players to battle their way through the decaying corpse of a once-mighty empire that refuses to fade. Elden Ring isn’t quite as damp, dismal and rotten as Dark Souls, but the world has certainly seen better days.

The Lands Between has suffered through a series of apocalyptic events, massive tectonic shifts that have occurred under the reign of fickle demigods who are unable to relinquish power, who would rather curse the land with rot than face defeat, short-sighted deities that tried to vanquish death itself, resulting in rotting soldiers cursed to march endlessly, still clashing their rust-bitten swords in senseless conflict.

There is an arc for the player character, who begin their journey as a lowly resurrected corpse, sharpening their skills on each felled enemy, until they ascend to godhood. Every single one of the endings, however, implies that the player has either outright doomed the inhabitants of the land, or merely given the old hierarchy a palette swap; the best one can do is switch one tyrant for another, and hope that the new reign is less cruel.

Aside from the overarching story and lore of the Lands Between, there is narrative woven into the gameplay. Uncovering the beautiful, lost cities below the ground, winning a powerful weapon once wielded by a hero, or stumbling onto the hellish wasteland of Caelid for the first time, are unforgettable experiences.

Then there’s the mysterious backstories of creatures like the beastmen, misbegotten and demi-humans, who, according to the NPC Kenneth Haight, are to be treated with sympathy under the true guidance of the Erdtree. But there is also the implication that the Erdtree’s rise coincided with the mistreatment of animal-people, as well as the Omens, whose beastlike features were once considered divine, during a forgotten era.

Annoying, repulsive enemies like the winged harpy-like creatures can be observed singing melancholic songs in Latin, if left undisturbed, and players have translated the lyrics of their songs to reveal traces of a tragic history. All of this can be ignored, of course, if the player simply wants to carve through them all – that’s fun too.

But battling these enemies, and boss fights, can feel so much more impactful if the player takes the time to uncover their stories. One of my favorites is Godrick the Grafted, a descendant of legendary nobility, who reigns as a disappointing, cowardly loser who devolves into an Eldritch abomination. Godrick is covered in the severed, mismatched arms of murdered Tarnished, macabre adornments which he thinks makes him look noble and intimidating.

One of Godrick’s lowly, sneaky servants assists the player in infiltrating his castle; when returning to Godrick’s territory after defeating him, the same servant is stamping triumphantly on his master’s remains. There are many small stories like that occurring in-game, and the majority are easy to miss.

Elden Ring’s approach to narrative can be frustrating, but it is, arguably, in tune with the way players interact with games, obsessively uncovering secrets through repeated playthroughs. I enjoy a compelling cutscene too, but so many AAA games seem to be mimicking the storytelling of movies, rather than leaning into the strengths of the medium.

Elden Ring isn’t one story, but a twisted tapestry of narratives; tales of war, rebellion, conquest, ruin, and perhaps, a hint of hope. : ‘Elden Ring’ Deserves To Win Best Narrative

Is Elden Ring brutal?

For the last couple of months, I’ve been trying to figure out why everyone currently drawing breath in this cursed earthly realm can’t stop playing, or talking about, Elden Ring, It’s a mystery. It makes no sense. Elden Ring, a brutally challenging open-world RPG, hasn’t just been popular.

  • The numbers have been astronomical,
  • Popularity was to be expected: FromSoftware has released a number of hit titles.
  • Dark Souls and Bloodborne have deservedly reached millions of players.
  • But Elden Ring’s level of success has put the famed developer into a whole other stratosphere.
  • FromSoftware’s last game, the highly rated, super popular Sekiro, took a year to shift 5 million copies.

Bloodborne, a PlayStation 4 exclusive, sold around 3 million copies over its lifespan. FromSoftware’s most successful release, Dark Souls 3, took around four years to sell 10 million copies. Elden Ring sold 12 million copies in just over two weeks, Two weeks,

Those aren’t Dark Souls numbers, those are Grand Theft Auto numbers, Elden Ring is matching pace with GTA V, a video game that’s sold 160 million copies to date. When you consider what Elden Ring is – a niche, system-rich RPG so obstinate it literally hides its tutorial from players – the level of popularity is ludicrous.

Elden Ring isn’t a watered-down product aimed at the broadest popular audience. It’s not Avengers Endgame. It’s like a David Lynch movie somehow pulling in a billion dollars at the box office. And don’t you say you predicted it! Vistas. So many vistas. Screenshot by Andrew Gebhart/CNET Don’t you dare – with the benefit of hindsight – smugly declare that anyone could have seen this coming. Literally no one could have predicted that Elden Ring could hit these giddy heights. It’s my job to anticipate trends like these, and with Elden Ring I was a mile off.

Without disclosing numbers, no game has come close to generating the interest and traffic Elden Ring has post launch – at least in my time at CNET. It’s unprecedented. Is it the pandemic? We’ve gotten used to attributing COVID-19 as a factor in any and all emerging cultural trends. That said, video game sales have spiked as a result of stay-at-home orders.

And Elden Ring is a video game that sends its “tarnished” players forth into a long decaying world cursed by disease and rot. But, no. Plenty of video games have been released during the pandemic – major titles – but none besides maybe Animal Crossing has come close to affecting the cultural conversation like Elden Ring. FromSoftware It feels like a confluence of multiple factors. Elden Ring was blessed with the presence of Game of Thrones creator George R.R. Martin – he helped with the lore and universe building early in development. Surely, his name on the poster helped weave the game into the broader consciousness.

The reviews, when they came, potentially had a higher impact. From the outset Elden Ring was a universally adored video game with a critical reception comparable to legendary games like Breath of the Wild or Skyrim. Almost instantly, Elden Ring was described as a video game experience you couldn’t afford to miss.

But if I had to ascribe Elden Ring’s success to one single metric, I’d say word of mouth. The numbers back me up here. A light survey done by GameIndustry.biz found that 40% of people bought the game after a friend recommended it. I suspect Elden Ring inspires a different kind of recommendation in its fan base.

Elden Ring isn’t just a very good video game that’s fun to play, it’s a game that binds itself to your identity like a parasite. You don’t just consume Elden Ring as a passive distraction from the humdrum of everyday life – you consume Elden Ring because it says something about you as a human being: You like challenges, you don’t give up, you like acquiring new skills, you are good at video games.

To be clear: This is not a good thing. It’s gatekeeping, but it’s gatekeeping that has inspired a different kind of recommendation from its player base. With Elden Ring, that cultish devotion has gone viral on a level previously unheard of. The reviews were so strong, the game of such a high quality, that literally everyone in that core FromSoftware cult (including myself) is screaming from the rooftops about it.

  • This isn’t just another FromSoftware game, it’s the culmination of decades of trust built up in a broadening fan base that has made liking these video games a core part of its personality.
  • Will those introduced to the Elden Ring cult stick around for the games that come after? My instincts say “yes.” Partly because, in its own unique way, Elden Ring is more accessible than previous FromSoftware games.

The open-world structure makes its roadblocks less painful. If you’re stuck at a boss, you can simply go elsewhere and come back stronger, leveled up with better gear. Elden Ring is about as visually inventive as video games get. Bandai Namco/Screenshot by Daniel Van Boom Elden Ring is also uniquely built to suit multiple different play styles. If your reflexes aren’t built for endless dodge-rolling, simply create a magic-focused build and obliterate enemies from a distance.

For all the online talk of difficulty and “git gud” culture, Elden Ring actually caters to a broad spectrum of players. Somehow Elden Ring has become the most popular video game in the world by compromising in ways that are near invisible to its core audience. And that’s ultimately a very good thing! The trend in almost all forms of expensively produced entertainment – be it video games or movies – is risk management.

In cinema, that usually means endless superhero movies and retreads of existing IP. In video games we have the “monogame.” Big-budget titles have become almost indistinguishable from one another in terms of the systems that make them tick. Open world, crafting, leveling up, combat trees.

  • Button presses do the same things, and big-budget gaming has smelted itself down into a boring, homogenized mess.
  • Elden Ring is popular, but it has become popular by refining its core promise, by doing something completely different from its competitive set.
  • That’s very cool.
  • In fact, it completely rules.

Long live the cult of Elden Ring.

What is the cheapest Elden Ring has been?

(Image credit: Bandai Namco) 2022 has been a fantastic year for gaming, with a huge variety of award-winning titles releasing throughout its months. The game that stands above the rest, though, is Elden Ring. FromSoftware’s latest epic fantasy action RPG has proven to be its fastest-selling release yet, with millions of gamers all over the world falling in love with its exemplary combat, boss fights, open world, and art direction.

Until now, however, Elden Ring hadn’t gone on sale for a price below its $60 MSRP. This is par for the course with FromSoftware’s recent titles, unfortunately, as they typically never get a discount — even during large sale events. Now, though, the game is available for a huge 30% discount on all of its platforms thanks to the ongoing Steam Winter Sale, Xbox Countdown Sale, and PlayStation Holiday Sale.

The best deal available, though, is a whopping 38% markdown on Elden Ring when you buy the Winter Sale discount through Green Man Gaming, a reputable retailer of Xbox and Windows PC games. With this deal, Elden Ring is just $37.37, making this the lowest price that the game has ever been sold for.

  1. Therefore, you definitely shouldn’t pass up on it if you’re a PC player.
  2. Notably, the game is also a fantastic gift for RPG fans and lovers of difficult, but satisfying titles, so keep it in mind if you’re in need of a last-minute gift for friends and family.
  3. Elden Ring triumphantly stands as 2022’s Game of the Year, with the title and its developer also taking home several other accolades from The Game Awards as well.

Perhaps even more than previous “Soulsborne” FromSoftware games, Elden Ring’s gameplay is immensely satisfying. The tried and true stamina-based combat system is back and better than ever, with classic attack, block, parry, and dodge options complimented by exciting new ones such as unique Ash of War moves and devastating guard counter ripostes.

There are also more weapons, spells, armors, and stat-boosting talismans than there have ever been in previous Dark Souls games, giving players unparalleled opportunities for buildcrafting and roleplaying. Elden Ring is also largely an open world experience, which is a departure from FromSoftware’s typical world and level design.

Though many were initially concerned with this new direction, worry gave way to astonishment as players realized just how deep, rich, and full of wonder Elden Ring’s Lands Between are. Notably, the game is also fairly hands-off with its guidance systems, allowing players the freedom to discover the world’s many sights, landmarks, dungeons, and treasure troves organically and at their own pace.

The game is undeniably a triumph, and is no doubt one of the best RPGs of the last decade. And at the 30-38% price it’s currently available for, it’s easily one of the best games you can get this holiday season. Make sure you take advantage of this deal before it’s gone. How much will Elden Ring go on sale for?

Elden Ring won all sorts of accolades in 2022, including GameSpot’s Game of the Year Award, If you haven’t picked up the open-world epic, now’s your chance to grab it for cheap. The Xbox version of Elden Ring is on sale for only $35 at Amazon. This matches the best Black Friday 2022 deal, which sold out rather quickly the first time around.

If you’re interested in Elden Ring at this price, we’d recommend snagging it as soon as possible. Elden Ring is arguably the best game From Software has ever created. It takes the challenging combat mantra of Dark Souls and deftly merges it with an open world, letting you tackle its many obstacles as you see fit.

Our Elden Ring review called it a “triumph in design” and awarded it a rare 10/10. “In a genre that has become wrought with bloated and over-designed games, Elden Ring is defiantly contrarian in almost every way,” wrote critic Tamoor Hussain. “Elden Ring takes the shards of what came before and forges them into something that will go down in history as one of the all-time greats: a triumph in design and creativity, and an open-world game that distinguishes itself for what it doesn’t do as much as what it does.” For more great gaming deals, make sure to check out Fanatical’s Lunar New Year Sale, which features discounts on thousands of games.
