What multiplies runes in Elden Ring?
In Elden Ring, the Gold Scarab talisman is all but essential for farming runes en masse. The well-hidden but incredibly useful item boosts the rate at which you acquire runes (the game’s term for XP or “souls” in previous FromSoft games) by about 20 percent.
It’s also a permanent upgrade. As long as you equip the talisman, of course. It even stacks with other rune acquisition buffs, like the Gold-Pickled Fowl Foot consumable. This makes the Gold Scarab the equivalent of the Covetous Silver Serpent Ring from Dark Souls, You almost definitely want it in your arsenal.
The trick is finding the dang thing. That’s what this guide is for! We’ll help you find your very own Gold Scarab and make Elden Ring rune farming just a bit less painless. Let’s take a look. To begin, you need to have reached Caelid: the red, swampy region full of poisonous muck and horrible mutations.
You can enter the zone in one of two ways. One is simply following the roads. The street that leads northeast of Limgrave, starting at the Stormhill Shack where you meet Roderika, will eventually take you through Summonwater Village. Past there things take a turn for the crimson. Just a bit southeast of this entry point is a Birdseye Telescope and the Smoldering Wall Site of Grace.
If you have trouble finding either of these locations, remember that you can always see the telescopes as an icon on your map, and you can always find maps at the obelisk-like “steles” that are also always marked on your map, The second way into Caelid lies under the Dragon-Burnt Ruins. These are the, um, dragon-burnt ruins in the lakebed of Limgrave. The very same lake where you can encounter your first dragon. You don’t need to fight the scaly one to get inside. Just run past him and the undead weaklings nearby.
- Amidst the rubble is a set of stairs leading down into a cellar.
- Open the chest in said cellar to transport into Caelid.
- This latter method into the swamp can be faster, in theory, but it’s more dangerous.
- Taking the transporter will lock you in a place called Sellia Crystal Tunnel.
- You won’t be able to leave until you exit the dungeon and rest at a Site of Grace.
Luckily, you can stealth your way through most of the tunnel. Then just ride Torrent southwest through the (rot-infested) swamp of Aeonia before turning north to reach the telescope. However you get to Caelid, start at the Smoldering Wall. Then head due east.
- You’ll pass one of those horrible chicken-dog enemies before reaching a single Abductor Virgin.
- These are the metal coffins on wheels, with chained weapons for arms.
- They’re also a pain to battle at almost any level.
- You can fight it or move past it.
- If do you choose to fight it, note that Abductor Virgins take significantly less damage while their bodies are closed.
You can use ranged attacks on their meaty insides when they open wide, but be careful not to let them eat you. Past this Abductor Virgin are piles and piles of the dead chicken-dogs. A handful in particular are strewn over a log to the east — just beside a cliff. Facing toward the cliff, look left of the log and its two corpses. There are more branches growing from this side of the cliff.
- You can walk across these to the other wall of a nearby canyon, using the dead tree as if it were a bridge.
- And, if you’re playing online, you will probably already see messages and bloodstains to guide you at this point.
- All you need to do is reach the end of the branch.
- Dead ahead of you, hewn into this side of the canyon, is a cave.
That is to say the Abandoned Cave dungeon. Touch the grace inside and get ready for a fight. The Abandoned Cave is pretty straightforward. That doesn’t make it any less of a pain in the ass. The red goop inside will slowly give you the Scarlet Rot status effect.
Think of this as super-poison, or the “Toxic” status from Dark Souls, And the red gas? That will automatically damage you when you walk through it. Finally, the bubbling geysers on the ground are likely instant death if you stand on top of them as they erupt. All of this occurs while you’re forced to move slowly through the muck.
Besides the boss, though, this first stretch is the worst the dungeon has to offer. Use your anti-rot items and spells (e.g. Preserving Boluses and the Flame, Cleanse Me incantation) just after exiting the first swamp hallway. There’s much less Scarlet Rot deeper inside.
- Instead, you get to contend with mushroom wizards, giant rats, and Miranda Flowers.
- These basic enemies are trivial by comparison.
- Though the boss room has even more Scarlet Rot to avoid.
- Speaking of which, the boss of this area is two Cleanrot Knights who greet you with incantations and spears.
- These are technically just normal enemies, juiced up with boss-sized health bars, but you need to contend with two at once.
Without Torrent. In an enclosed space Spirit Summoning or co-op can help a great deal here. The Cleanrot Knights aren’t too terrible when they’re not both barreling down on you at once. Drawing their aggression will give you time to stagger (using jumping and charged attacks) and land critical hits.
- Focus on just one at first, if you can, and the second will go down much easier alone.
- Your reward for all this goopy hell is the lovable Gold Scarab! Simply equip the talisman like any other item in the game and you’ll receive 20 percent extra runes all throughout your time in Elden Ring,
- Just don’t forget to take it off and replace it with a more useful talisman when a boss gives you major trouble.
It’s for farming, not for fighting. Good luck out there, Tarnished!

Home Gaming News Elden Ring Player Gets Gifted an Absurd Amount of Runes in Co-Op
An Elden Ring player gets gifted a ton of runes from another player to level up their character after playing co-op and asking for leftover runes. Elden Ring is arguably the most approachable game from developer FromSoftware. The ability to call in help whenever one needs it from both NPCs and real-life allies, as well as the option to easily grind runes at farm spots in Elden Ring to get stronger, ensures that each player’s journey through the Lands Between is unique.
- One lucky person was gifted with an absurd amount of runes after finishing a co-op session with another player.
- Elden Ring ‘s open-world approach means players can just leave and do something else if they encounter an area that is too difficult for them.
- When they are stronger and more prepared, they can return and try again against whatever foe or obstacle was blocking their path, leading to much debate on which Elden Ring bosses are underrated and which are overpowered; the experience is different for everyone.
Players also have the option to tackles bosses solo or in co-op, which also lets players trade items, including runes to level up their own character. In a post to Reddit by user Maximum-Better, the player details exactly how many runes they were gifted when they asked the simple question: “can I have some leftover runes?” The picture of the inventory screen shows a max capacity of 99 for presumably every rune type consumable in Elden Ring,
- Those consumables are Golden Runes and give the player a set amount of runes based on their quality level.
- There are other types of rune consumables called Hero’s Runes and Numen’s Runes, but they all function the same way, and it’s a great strategy to build up a lot of runes without the risk of dying over and over in a brutal game like Elden Ring,
One Reddit user named Sinehmatic thinks they have identified the exact amount of runes that all these consumables would grant. The user estimates that a player would be granted almost 23 million runes, and if they are correct, this player has more than enough runes to overlevel their character.
- This kind gesture certainly beats farming all of those runes, and the player can still decide if they want to use them or not.
- The sheer amount of freedom from the single-player experience in Elden Ring is a lot to take in for most players, and adding in co-op, NPC summons, and PvP invasions can be overwhelming at times.
As such, it’s heartwarming to see just how generous and helpful the Elden Ring community can be, Elden Ring is available on PC, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, and Series X/S. MORE: Elden Ring’s Radagon Could Have Been FromSoftware’s Best Boss To Date

Home Gaming News Elden Ring Player Gets to the End of the Game Without Spending Their Golden Runes
An Elden Ring player reaches the end of the game without realizing that they can use Golden Runes to gain tons of runes for free. Runes in Elden Ring work the same way as souls from Dark Souls or blood echoes in Bloodborne, Players earn runes by defeating enemies and must collect them after dying or risk losing them forever. These runes are essential to Elden Ring ‘s progression system, as they are used for leveling up, upgrading weapons, and buying valuable items.
- Players can also earn runes by using specific items called Golden Runes.
- Later on, users will come across Hero’s Runes and Numen’s Runes, but they function the same way.
- While it may not seem like much initially, getting a few thousand runes for free can help avoid an unnecessary grind.
- Some users choose to collect several Golden Runes to use them all at once, but one Elden Ring player managed to reach the end of the game without ever using a single one.
A Redditor named shmegmar shared a picture of the staggering number of Golden Runes in their inventory, and it looks like their collection also includes some Numen’s and Hero’s Runes. According to a user in the comments, consuming these would have earned them 1,170,150 runes, enough to gain several levels in Elden Ring,
- The item’s description mentions that it can be consumed to gain runes, so it’s surprising to see that shmegmar never used them.
- They probably had to grind for runes on several occasions while also completing a large portion of Elden Ring ‘s optional content to level up.
- Some users have shared tips and strategies on spending these runes.
One player recommended that shmegmar should buy every type of Somber Smithing Stone, an item used to upgrade special weapons, before starting new game plus in Elden Ring, Players can purchase these items at the Roundtable Hold after giving the required Somberstone Miner’s Bell Bearings to Twin Maiden Husks.
Players can also drop Golden Runes for a friend to help them level up. One user utilized this method but asked that friend to give them back for a newly created Elden Ring character, allowing them to gain tens of levels instantly. Judging by the comments, many players use Golden Runes whenever they are close to leveling up or want to upgrade weapons or Spirit Ashes,
Additionally, the number of runes required to level up dramatically increases at endgame. One user stated that they need 450,000 runes to level up, and so they have decided to help others defeat Elden Ring ‘s final boss to help speed things up. Elden Ring is out now for PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X.

Can you lose runes in coop?
Elden Ring’s Co-Op Gives Opportunities To Practice – Elden Ring sees the return of the signature difficulty that gave Dark Souls its reputation, but helping others as a phantom can alleviate some of the stress involved in figuring out how to best a particularly tough gameplay section. For both general areas and boss fights, there can be a lot players have to learn before they succeed, and co-op lets players practice without the risk of losing Runes.
Though certain traps are deliberately designed to catch players unaware, Elden Ring and its Soulslike predecessors are generally pretty fair in that overcoming a challenge typically involves learning attack patterns and recognizing the opportune moments to strike. Some Ashes of War make Elden Ring bosses easy, but most players will be able to conquer tough foes with some practice.
Co-op gives the perfect opportunity to learn areas or fight bosses without fear of losing Runes. With two or three people in the game, a boss’ attention will be divided, opening up more opportunities to strike, but also giving players a chance to observe the attack animations when they’re not in harm’s way.

What is the best weapon to rune farm in Elden Ring?
End Game rune farming: 1 million in 10 minutes – As you progress through Elden Ring, 50,000 runes in 15 minutes may no longer do the trick. The best method I’ve found will get you that amount in under a minute, but there are a few prerequisites. To optimize results, you’ll need the Sacred Relic Sword, a weapon that you can only get by beating the final boss.
- You can do this method with any other weapon, it’s just that the Sacred Relic Sword’s special move has a huge area of effect that expedites the process.
- You’ll also want a Golden Scarab talisman, which boosts rune acquisition by 20%.
- The area in question is an optional area called Mohgwyn Palace,
- You can access this area in one of two ways: Go through White-Faced Varre’s questline, which you can do by finding him at the Rose Church after you beat Godrick The Grafted, or by finding a portal in the west side of the Mountaintops of the Giants,
If you’re confused about how to access the western half of the Mountaintops, it involves collecting two halves of the Haligtree Secret Medallion and presenting it at the Grand Lift of Rold. I chose the latter method, since I had already unlocked the western side of the Mountaintops.
- You can find the portal and its location on the map below.
- This little number will take you to Mohgwyn Palace.
- Bandai Namco/Screenshot by Daniel Van Boom Here’s where you’ll find the teleporter on the map.
- Bandai Namco/Screenshot by Daniel Van Boom Where the magic happens.
- Bandai Namco/Screenshot by Daniel Van Boom If you arrive via transporter, you’ll find yourself in a little cave.
Exit and you’ll be greeted to a panoramic view of Mohgwyn Palace, as well as a Site of Grace. This Site of Grace is where you’ll be farming your runes. If you’re standing at the Site of Grace and look forward, you’ll see a bunch of sleeping ogre creatures.
- There’s about a dozen of them hanging out.
- If you look to the left, you’ll see another area separated from you by a big canyon.
- Wandering back and forth on the other side of the canyon is a very ugly bird.
- Luckily for us, the bird is an idiot.
- If you shoot it with an arrow, it will become incensed and run at you.
As noted, there is a giant canyon between you and the bird. The bird falls down and dies, giving you about 11,000 runes for little effort. Then, it’s time to kill the ogre dudes. This is where the Sacred Relic Sword comes in. It has a special move called Wave of Gold, which will hit almost every enemy in the space.
- Just by targeting one ogre and hitting L2, I killed a bunch of them and got about 40,000 runes.
- You’ll see this bird walking back and forth in the area across the canyon.
- Hit it with an arrow and it will get mad, chase you, fall down the cliff and die, granting you over 10,000 runes.
- Bandai Namco/Screenshot by Daniel Van Boom Now it’s time to turn your attention to these blokes.
Killing them all gets you about 25,000 runes. Bandai Namco/Screenshot by Daniel Van Boom If you have the sword you gain access to after beating the last boss, its special move can kill all of them in one or two hits. That’s 25,000 runes in about 10 seconds.
- Bandai Namco/Screenshot by Daniel Van Boom And that’s it! Once everyone’s dead and you’ve harvested those runes, go take a quick rest at the Site of Grace so the enemies repopulate the area.
- Then do it all over again.
- Again, you don’t need to use the final boss weapon.
- It won’t take you too long to clear out all the enemies here, especially if you have another weapon with a big area of effect attack.
Remember to equip your Golden Scarab talisman, which will boost your ruin acquisition by 20%. All told, you’ll get about 60,000 runes per run. Once you get into a good flow, it’s easy to farm a million runes in 10 minutes here. Spend an hour on this and you’ll be the richest Tarnished the Lands Between ever saw.

How do you get a billion runes in Elden Ring?
Home Gaming News Elden Ring Player Makes Heartbreaking Discovery After 55 Hours of Rune Farming
A dedicated Elden Ring player makes a heartbreaking discovery after spending 55 hours farming runes in the game. One of the most important things for Elden Ring players to do is collect as many runes as possible and use those runes to level up their character. There are certain spots in the game where Elden Ring players can farm for a ton of runes quickly, amassing a small fortune in the process.
However, there is a maximum number of runes that players can hold, which one fan figured out the hard way. Elden Ring player FSFreeman wanted to hit 1 billion runes in the game, and they took to one of the community’s most popular farming spots to do it. For those who may not be aware, there is a cliff side in the Mohgwyn Palace area that has a bunch of easily-killable enemies that all give out a decent number of runes.
Using area of effect attacks, Elden Ring players can make short work of these creatures, then quickly rest at the nearby Site of Grace or teleport to make them all respawn. There are ways that Elden Ring players can make rune farming in the game even more efficient.
For example, players can utilize Gold-Pickled Fowl Feet to increase the number of runes they’re earning at a time, and they can also equip the Gold Scarab talisman to up their rune intake even further. FSFreeman wasn’t consuming any Gold-Pickled Fowl Feet, but they were using the Gold Scarab in their quest to hit 1 billion runes in the game.
FSFreeman claims to have spent 55 hours rune farming in Elden Ring while trying to hit their goal of 1 billion runes. Unfortunately, they found out that the game doesn’t actually let players hold 1 billion runes at a time. As FSFreeman discovered, Elden Ring players can only hold a max of 999,999,999 runes.
They reacted to this revelation by collapsing on the ground in-game. After recovering from their shock and disappointment, FSFreeman spent their hard-earned runes upgrading their stats. According to FSFreeman, the 999,999,999 runes they spent on their Elden Ring character allowed them to level from 321 all the way to 634.
However, this was still shy of the Elden Ring max level cap, The max level in Elden Ring is 713, which players reach when they raise all their skills to 99. However, doing this requires over 1.6 billion runes, so it will take anyone interested in hitting the cap a significant amount of time, to say the least.

Do you get more runes in NG+ Elden Ring?
What is New Game Plus? – All the Dark Souls games have featured an NG+ mode, allowing you to replay the game from the beginning with most of your gear, items, and level from the first run. As expected, this mode does make enemies harder in Elden Ring, but rewards you with significantly more runes for defeating them.
Playing on NG+ can also be a great way to unlock certain items, since many of them are often tied to missable quests that overlap. We won’t spoil them here, but just know that unlocking everything in the game will require multiple playthroughs. In addition, the previous Souls games have featured more than one NG+ mode.
After you finish NG+, you can begin a new run on NG++ mode, and so on. Each subsequent run provides you with more difficult enemies than the previous, but yields more Runes. In past Souls games, the enemy difficulty usually caps out at around NG+7 or NG+9, but you’re still able to begin new runs past that.
