Level 1 Smithing Stones can increase your weapon to a +3 effect, while higher ranking stones will allow you to strengthen your weaposn further. Certain weapons that have special properties or unique weapon skills that cannot be swapped out require Somber Smithing Stones instead.
Often times, if you feel you aren’t making a dent on a tough enemy or boss, you may need to seek out Smithing Stones to increase your damage output and defeat these challenges. Smithing Stones (and Somber Smithing Stones) are found literally all over the Lands Between. They are primarily found on random humanoid bodies you can loot all over the open world, inside mini dungeons, off the beaten path in Legacy Dungeons, and everywhere else.
You’ll usually find appropriately leveled Smithings Stones relative to the difficulty of the area you are in – sometimes a bit higher, and sometimes a bit lower but in greater quantities. However, Smithing Stones found on placed bodies can only be looted once.
Similarly, you can also look for both Smithing Stones and Somber Smithing Stones in tunnel mines that double as mini dungeons. When inside these ares, you’ll often find enemy diggers hard at work mining, and you can interact with the golden clumps of ore along the walls to loot Smithing Stones, or loot the glowing white ore to get Somber Smithing Stones.

Where can I farm smithing stones in Elden Ring?
Somber Smithing Stone farming locations – Like the regular Smithing Stone Bell Bearings, the Somberstone versions are usually found in late-game areas and you might need some Somber Smithing Stones earlier in your adventure. Though they drop very rarely, you are able to farm or retrieve some of the lower-level Somber Smithing Stones earlier in the game.
- Somber Smithing Stones (1) & (2): This isn’t technically farming, since you don’t need to kill anything, but you can purchase infinite Somber Smithing Stones (1) & (2) from Smithing Master Iji at the Kingsrealm Ruins.
- Somber Smithing Stones (3), (4), and (5): Rarely dropped by the Glintstone Miners in Sellia Crystal Tunnel, a mine found northwest of Sellia, Town of Sorcery.

There are nine such Bearings in the game, and this guide contains the locations of all of them. First, the basics. There are two places you can buy smithing stones: From Smithing Master Iji, a giant in northwest Liurnia of the Lakes (pictured above), and also the Twin Maiden Husks at the Roundtable Hold.
Iji is simpler, so let’s start with him. Once you (good luck!), you’ll enter the Land Between’s second major area: Liurnia of the Lakes, To find Iji, you need to travel all the way to the northwest region of the lake. West of Agheel Lake – A Smithing Stone can be found on a dead body in this part of the lake near the Stranded Graveyard Church of Elleh – You’ll find a shard on the Smithing Table next to Kale in the church. Stormhill – Three tier 1 stones can be found on a dead body lying with a bunch of knocked over chairs and other bodies. It’s east-southeast of the Stormhill Shack near a large ruin. Stormhill Graveyard – In the forest graveyard up towards Stormveil Castle, you’ll find one tier 1 Smithing Stone on a corpse. Glowing Statue – Lure a nearby Troll over to smash the glowing statue southeast of the Warmaster’s Shack. You’ll get five tier 1 Smithing Stones. Saintsbridge – You can find two tier 1 Smithing Stones from a corpse on the bridge but watch out for the Pumpkin Head. Summonwater Village – You can find one tier 1 Smithing Stone on a corpse in the graveyard on the north side of the village ruins. Artist’s Shack – There is one tier 1 Smithing Stone lying on the ground just outside the shack. Bridge near Agheel Lake – You can find one tier 1 Smithing Stone on a corpse very near the edge of the bridge. Fort Haight – There is a corpse on the battlements of the fortress with one tier 1 Smithing Stone on it. Bridge of Sacrifice – There’s a corpse hanging off the east side of the bridge that you can loot to get three tier 1 Smithing Stones Castle Morne – Three stones can be found on a corpse near a tree at the far end of the main castle courtyard. There is a Pumpkin Head very close by! Limgrave Tunnels – There are plenty of tier 1 Smithing Stones for you to collect in these mine tunnels. Search thoroughly to find as many as you can. Some are hidden behind obstacles or in small gaps that don’t look accessible but are. Highroad Cave – There are three tier 1 Smithing Stones inside this cave for you to loot. All three are found on a single corpse on a ledge high up in the main flooded chamber area. Morne Tunnel – Like the Limgrave Tunnels, this is another mine area full of tier 1 Smithing Stones.
