Is Altus Plateau late game?
Though Elden Ring features approximately a dozen required boss fights to reach the end of the game, there are many optional boss fights scattered throughout the Altus Plateau and beyond. The impressively large map features five distinct areas: Limgrave, Caelid, Liurnia, the Mountaintops of Giants, and the Altus Plateau.
While many of these areas are locked from the game’s beginning, players can unlock new locations by defeating essential bosses. However, it’s recommended that players take time to explore their surroundings and defeat enemies hidden throughout Elden Ring ‘s open world on their way to becoming Elden Lord.
Elden Ring takes place in the Lands Between after the Shattering of a mysterious artifact (the game’s namesake). The player character, a disgraced Tarnished, wakes from death and roams the world in search of becoming the next Elden Lord. Once players get a few hours into the game, they can steadily become more powerful and take on some of the many optional bosses throughout the Lands Between.
While many of these fights aren’t essential to the storyline, they present necessary upgrades to confront greater challenges, including runes, and better armor and weapons. The Altus Plateau is one such area that provides players with an abundance of resources, enemies, and boss fights to partake in.
The Altus Plateau is a late-game area that players can’t access until they’ve left Elden Ring ‘s Stormveil Castle far behind. Located in the upper left of the map, players can expect to face various magical and monstrous opponents. Thankfully, there aren’t many bosses in the area compared to other locations in Elden Ring.

How do you skip the grand lift?
Speak to the Ghost and Fast Travel Back to the Academy of Raya Lucaria – When you’re standing at the entrance to the Grand Lift of Dectus with the Site of Grace to your right, talk to the ghost in the lefthand corner. It will tell you about an ancient tunnel that can be used to get to the Altus Plateau, circumventing the Grand Lift of Dectus entirely.
- This is what we’ll use to get up there.
- Now, open up your map and zoom in.
- Just to the left of your location is a ravine in between two large cliffs.
- It eventually comes to a dead-end, but this is where the entrance to the tunnel we’re looking for is.
- If you’re unsure, use the map image below as a guide.
The blue markers are where you’ll have to travel through on the riverbed. You now want to fast travel to the Site of Grace closest to the gorge opening, but you must make sure you have access to the lake from there. It’s no good fast travelling to somewhere on top of the cliffs; you won’t be able to safely make it down.

Is Altus Plateau hard?
Elden Ring: If You Think Caelid Is Hard, You Haven’t Seen Anything Yet In the latest FromSoftware title,, Caelid has quickly gained a reputation as a difficult area, but there are much worse locations in store afterward. There are dozens of locations with plenty of unforgiving enemies that can turn unprepared players into paste.
FromSoftware games are notoriously difficult, and Elden Ring – while more forgiving in certain areas – is no exception. Players will need a sharp eye and quick reflexes if they want to conquer the Lands Between in the, In Elden Ring, Caelid is an area just east of Limgrave, the starting area. It’s stricken with a plague known as the Scarlet Rot, that’s twisted even the plants into horrible, mutated forms.
It’s most easily recognizable by the red color that’s afflicted just about everything, as well as the large amounts of undead enemies roaming the map. Tarnished embarking on the early stages of their journey across Elden Ring ‘s Lands Between should avoid stumbling into Caelid, as 60-70 is a recommended level range for that particular area.
- Although Caelid is certainly hard, it’s not quite so much as its reputation would imply.
- There are plenty of other locations, both above ground and below, that will have unprepared players dying more times than they can count.
- Thankfully, the open-world means that players can grind to their heart’s content and face off against the many at their own pace, acquiring runes to better level their Tarnished and return with new weapons and abilities.
A lot of patience is necessary in order to take on many of them, and though Caelid’s may have accrued a reputation for being particularly fearsome, there are worse places to venture in the Lands Between. Every area of Elden Ring has danger and deadly enemies lurking around every turn, but Caelid has quickly built up a reputation for being hard, even among other sections of the game. Memes about its difficulty have sprung up across the internet as players vent their frustrations with the area.
- Even among other Elden Ring areas, it stands out due to the scarlet color that’s dyed everything an unsettling hue, as well as the overall aesthetic of the landscape.
- Rocks shaped like skulls and shambling zombies abound, and it has a general feeling of death and decay.
- There are required and, like any other area, and they’re arguably just as grotesque as the land itself.
Although Caelid is exceptionally difficult, like all of Elden Ring, it doesn’t quite earn the reputation that it’s garnered. There are plenty of other areas of the game that are far harder, so players who have managed to conquer Caelid shouldn’t get cocky. One area that players will encounter after vanquishing General Radahn in Caelid is the Altus Plateau, an area that is also home to, It’s not the biggest area of the game, but it can still prove punishingly difficult. It holds a number of bosses, such as a second iteration of Margit, the Fell Omen, called Margott, as well as a stronger version of the Tree Sentinel from Limgrave.
- It has a recommended level of 60-80, and can present many roadblocks as the Tarnished attempts to reach the Erdtree.
- Altus Plateau also holds the Leyndell castle, and is a key area of the story, so there’s no skipping it.
- Leyndell, Royal Capital, is even harder than the rest of Altus Plateau.
- Despite being one of the more civilized areas of the map, it’s still fraught with a number of highly leveled enemies, and includes a decrepit sewer system where the Loathsome Dung-Eater resides.
There are a number of, with several of them being confined to the Royal Capital. With this in mind, under-leveled players may wish to summon a fellow player to help them navigate its maze-like environment, as even non-boss enemies like Spider Hands and Knights can cause a great deal of trouble if underestimated. Of course, as hard as Elden Ring ‘s aboveground areas are, its underground ones are even more difficult. One such location is very difficult to stumble into by accident by way of Dragon-Burnt Ruins. Within the ruins, there’s a trapped treasure chest that, instead of offering runes or helpful items, will teleport players to an underground area called Sellia Crystal Tunnel, which leads right into Caelid.
- This area can prove particularly problematic for players only just beginning their journey in Elden Ring, but there are actually worse areas than that to find below ground as well.
- As players venture into (most likely after their confrontation with Radahn), they’ll enter into a world filled with mimic tears, gargoyles, and even menacing orbs.
The area can be disorienting to navigate too, as it’s covered in ruins and lacks clear paths unlike the above-ground sections of the map. The Ancestor Spirit boss encounters are relatively easy compared to other enemies in Elden Ring, but as the Tarnished progresses further, they’ll arrive at an even more horrifying underground destination.
Deeproot Depths is a relatively nightmarish segment of Elden Ring ‘s map. It’s located below Leyndell, and is accessed by riding a coffin up a waterfall following a dual boss encounter with two menacing gargoyles (accessed only by fighting off two powerful Crucible Knight enemies). The many Giant and Winged Ants that inhabit this place should not be underestimated, as they can swarm the player in seconds.
Players will want to get powerful before taking on this location, as it can spell doom for the unprepared. Elden Ring is chock-full of difficult areas, so those thinking that Caelid is the worst that it has to offer are in for a rude awakening.
