How do you use hand incantations Elden Ring?
Elden Ring: How to use incantations – (Image credit: Windows Central) While Elden Ring sorceries are almost always dependent on your character’s Intelligence stat, all of the game’s incantations require Faith, though some will also need Arcane or Intelligence as well. Note that all classes and all players can get and use incantations throughout a playthrough, provided that you tailor your stats to meet a spell’s minimum stat requirements.
With that said, only two classes begin with the stats and the equipment necessary to actually use incantations, which is likely where some confusion is coming from. Both the Prophet and Confessor class start with incantations (often shortened to incants), as well as the correct item needed to use them.
If you’re playing something like a Wretch or a Vagabond, you need to buy an item to use incants: a Sacred Seal. Below, we’ll go over how to equip Sacred Seals, as well as where you can purchase one. (Image credit: Windows Central) Here’s how to equip a Sacred Seal:
Press the view button or inventory button on your input device to access the equipment area. Equip a Seal in either your main hand (right) or your offhand (left).Pressing left and right on the D-pad lets you cycle through equipment in your offhand and main hand, respectively. With the Seal equipped, you will now be able to cast any equipped incantation by pressing the left bumper (offhand) or right bumper (main hand). Many incantations can be charged by holding down the bumper before releasing it, Charging incantations typically increases their potency and damage, and may also improve their area of effect as well. Charging is also helpful if you want to wait a few seconds before casting a buff or healing spell.
Keep in mind that you’ll also need to equip your incantations in order to cast them. This is done by memorizing spells, which you can do whenever you’re sitting at a Site of Grace. You can find incantations out in the world as loot, rewards for boss kills, or even purchases from vendors.
- Press up on the D-Pad to cycle through your spells, and hold the up button whenever you want to jump back to the first spell in your inventory.
- Note: If you’re unable to cast an incantation with your Sacred Seal, it means you either don’t have enough FP or don’t meet the spell’s minimum requirements.
Your FP, represented by the blue bar under your health, can be replenished with the Flask of Cerulean Tears (“mana potions”) and upgraded with investment into the Mind stat. You can find the stat requirements of any spell in your inventory menu, where your collected incantations are listed.

What is the difference between incantation and sorcery in Elden Ring?
Magic Spells Magic Spells in Elden Ring are a returning feature in previous Souls games, but with a few changes. With them, players will be able to cast various magical spells to enhance, defend, and attack, depending on the situation. This page contains a list of spells as well as information on how to set and use them.
- Elden Ring features two types of magical spell classifications – Sorceries, and Incantations.
- Sorceries include the more traditional magical abilities – including ranged projectiles, magical sword attacks, and so forth – while Incantations include sacred holy magic to heal or repel the undead or fire magic that draws power from the dragon communion.
By default, Sorceries will scale with your character’s Intelligence attribute, while Incantations are affected by your Faith attribute. advertisement All spells cost FP to use, which shares cost with weapon skills, meaning you’ll have to think carefully about using them alongside each other if you build out your class into a hybrid role.
- The only way to reclaim FP is to use cerulean flasks, kill blue teardrop scarabs, or defeat a group of enemies in areas to replenish flasks.
- Like melee weapons, you’ll only be able to equip a few spells at a time to swap between while you explore and battle, even as you collect and find more spells.
- However, you won’t be able to change out spells quite as easily.
Once you have located or bought a spell, you can equip them by resting at a Site of Grace in the Lands Between and selecting the Memorize Spell option. In this menu, you can select any of the spells you have gained to take up an open memorization slot.
- Different spells may end up taking up more than one slot, but you may be able to increase the number of slots by increasing your magical attributes.
- You can mix Sorceries and Incantations as needed, but you won’t be able to swap between different spells until you return to a Site of Grace to memorize new spells.
Once memorized, you will only be able to cast these spells by equipping the necessary catalyst in your left hand – staffs are needed to cast Sorceries and sacred seals are needed to cast Incantations. Each spell has an attribute requirement in order to cast it – Sorceries will need a certain amount of Intelligence, while Incantations will require a minimum amount of Faith.

Does intelligence affect Incantation?
Character stats – Your character in Elden Ring has eight stats that define what kind of fighter (and person, really) they are.
|Vigor||Attribute governing HP. Also affects fire resistance and immunity.||Vigor is your health (HP) stat.|
|Mind||Attribute that determines FP. Also affects focus.||Mind is your Force Points (FP) stat. You’ll use FP to cast Sorceries and Incantations (spells), summon Spirit Ashes, and use Ashes of War (and Weapon Arts).|
|Endurance||Attribute governing stamina. Also affects robustness. This attribute also determines how heavy your equipment can be.||Endurance is your stamina and Equipment Load stat. It controls how much you can swing your weapon, roll, and how heavy your equipment can be.|
|Strength||Attribute required to wield heavy armaments. Also boosts attack power of your strength-scaling armaments and affects your physical defense.||Strength is your punching and Strength-based weapon (like Greatswords and Warhammers) stat. It also affects your physical defense.|
|Dexterity||Attribute required to wield advanced armaments. Also boosts attack power of dexterity-scaling armaments, reduces casting time of spells, softens fall damage, and makes it harder to be knocked off your horse.||Dexterity is the stat for other weapons like Daggers, Katanas, and Longbows. It also influences casting time for spells and reduces fall damage.|
|Intelligence||Attribute required to perform glintstone sorceries. Also boosts magic power of intelligence-scaling sorceries and improves magic resistance.||Intelligence is the stat for casting Sorceries and for increasing your magic resistance.|
|Faith||Attribute required to perform sacred incantations. Also boosts power of faith-scaling incantations.||Faith is the stat for the other kind of magic, Incantations.|
|Arcane||Attribute governing discovery. Also affects holy defense, vitality, and certain sorceries and incantations.||Arcane is a hybrid magic stat that also influences item drop rates (Discovery). Think of it like luck.|
Four stats — Vigor, Mind, Endurance, and, to a lesser extent, Arcane — are useful for any class. Having more health means you’ll die (slightly) less often and a higher equipment load means (generally) better gear. When it comes to dealing damage — and playing into your character’s class strengths — the other four stats are what’s important.

Are Incantations op in Elden Ring?
15 Law Of Regression – Status buildups can quickly turn the tide for or against you in battle. With so many status ailments to worry about, you will often find yourself unprepared for a fight, and by then, it will be too late. Stacking up on items can prepare you for these effects, but this can be a massive drain on runes over time. focuses on dealing damage to your enemies and can easily be used to overwhelm just about any foe. After casting this spell, it will act independently and continue the bombardment of stars on your enemy, allowing you to catch your breath and heal or double up on attacking while they’re distracted. Like many other Incantations, Flame Of The Fell God has the caster throwing a massive fireball at your enemies. After exploding and doing some decent AOE, it will level the area ablaze and deal a bit more damage to the enemies affected or those who walk into it post-impact. Incantations can be very supportive spells, as Flame, Grant Me Strength boosts your fire affinity and overall damage output. Almost all builds will utilize some sort of physical weapon, even if it’s just a backup option, making this an incredibly useful incantation for anyone to use. Healing in Elden Ring is an incredibly priceless ability. Most healing spells have a long cast time that keeps you from moving, making them relatively useless in combat. Your flask of crimson tears is ideal for combat, but it does have limited charges, and everyone knows the feeling of getting a boss low on health and not having enough flask charges to win. With Elden Ring’s massive map, many stretches can be endurance tests for players. Having a limited number of heal charges with an unknown distance to travel can be daunting. Lord’s Heal will be some of the best bang for your buck in terms of FP usage to heal. Golden Vow buffs both the offense and the defense of the caster and those around them. While this spell seems straightforward, sometimes the straightforward bonuses can make or break a boss fight. Increasing both your own and allies’ damage can help considerably shorten a boss fight’s length. This Incantation has a low FP cost, quick spell cast time, and can be chain cast. Mixing in the Madness buildup on the target can make this spell make short work of single enemies and drive opponents crazy in PVP. While this spell does build up the player’s madness, it is at a much slower rate. Giving true power and damage to your faith skill, this Incantation allows tremendous damage over a medium distance. At only 17 Faith to use, it is an excellent early game incantation allowing your build to branch out to more damage-based incantations. Being a blood incantation, it will also require Arcane to cast it. While also doing magic damage, this Incantation mostly does physical damage. Adding a hemorrhage buildup, this spell hurts its target and can lead to further if cast multiple times. This spell does require a cast time but can be cast while moving.
This is also one of the few spells and incantations that can be released while the player is crouched and allows them to stay crouched. While stealth in Elden Ring is often underutilized, this spell can help even a faith build utilize it. Glintstone Breath is one of the few incantations that cause magic damage and, in this case, only magic damage.
Adding this Incantation to your spell lists allows a high-damage magic spell in a build that usually lacks magic damage. This Incantation does suffer from a very long cast time, but its high and constant stream of damage makes it devastating when used correctly.
While breathing the spell, you may also turn to attack in different directions if needed. Many glass cannon builds suffer from the lack of options when strong enemies get within combat range. This spell not only gives you an option but a devastating attack to eliminate the enemy. This Incantation does physical damage and can be charged to do more.
Its charged attack adds a second sweep that does more damage than the first. The second strike has a much broader strike, with both swings hitting everything in front of you. This spell is powerful enough for you to consider switching to a melee-based faith build.
Matching a quick cast time with a low FP cost and the ability to chain cast is the perfect recipe for an auto-take spell. Its cast time is so fast it can be chained into your primary weapons combos by switching between your hands. Bestial Sling is mostly physical damage and some magic damage. The Bestial incantations are some of the best in the game and are a must-have for any faith build.
Its incredibly low Faith requirement makes it perfect for finding and using early-game and will make those early bosses a cakewalk. While this does have a high FP cost at 32, Giantsflame Take Thee makes up for it. This Incantation does massive damage, has AoE, and a knockback.
This spell can be further charged up to increase the total damage and add a large range of AoE. While the number of, enough attacks with this invitation will make short work of any boss or group of enemies you’re fighting. This Incantation is one of the highest ranged damage abilities in the game and is needed for a faith build.
Despite the balances to make this Incantation less powerful, it still stands at the top. With only eight Faith required, almost any character can use this ability, but Faith builds scale it to an incredible level. Its medium cast speed can be charged up for more damage.
