Is the Jellyfish Shield good in Elden Ring?
S-Tier –
Jellyfish Shield : A decapitated head of one of Elden Ring ‘s adorable Jellyfish creatures, the Jellyfish Shield is one of the best Greatshields in the entire game. With an incredibly low weight of just 8.0, the Jellyfish Shield can be wielded by a good variety of build types. While blocking 100% physical damage, the Jellyfish Shield’s Weapon Skill, “Contagious Fury,” is by far its most unique, and helpful asset, boosting damage by 20% for 30 seconds. Ant’s Skull Plate : Another beheaded creature fashioned into a shield, the Ant’s Skull Plate is another superb Greatshield.100% physical damage negation, and some decent elemental reduction, the Ant’s Skull Plate is a good piece of defensive gear, but it truly shines as a weapon. While also boosting the player’s immunity by 50 points, this shield inflicts 90 points of poison build-up per hit, making it a lethal weapon. Eclipse Crest Greatshield : Aside from not being the most exciting shield visually, the Eclipse Crest Greatshield may just be the best shield in Elden Ring, A low weight of 15.0 allows most builds to wield it easily, it blocks 72% of magic damage, and has a high guard boost of 67, meaning that less stamina is drained per hit absorbed. On top of all this, the Eclipse Crest Greatshield also passively adds 50 points to the user’s Immunity, Robustness, and Focus. Fingerprint Stone Shield : A shield that verges on being broken, the Fingerprint Stone Shield is infuriating to play against, but incredibly satisfying to use. With a whopping guard boost of 81, a player holding this shield can keep blocking for a staggering amount of time. To make it even better, the Fingerprint Stone Shield also has some of the best elemental blocking on any shield in Elden Ring, and when used as a weapon, this shield even causes 50 points of Madness build-up. The only trade-off is that this shield is the heaviest in the game. Even after five months of updates, various nerfs, and reworks, the Fingerprint Stone Shield still remains one of the most infuriating, satisfying weapons to use in the entire game. Though players have found a few workarounds to those using the Fingerprint Stone Shield, the weapon still claims victory in the vast majority of scenarios, whether it’s through actual skill or just sheer dumb luck. Golden Greatshield : One of the few Greatshields that’s actually managed to improve with updates, Elden Ring ‘s Golden Greatshield is a phenomenal mid-late game shield, capable of tanking just about anything the game can throw at the player. Though the Golden Greatshield isn’t quite as light as the Eclipse Crest Greatshield, its weight of 17.0 is still on the lower side when compared to the rest of its class. While the Golden Greatshield isn’t the most sturdy option at first, upon being upgraded, it becomes one tough piece of gear, with a Guard Boost stat of 78. It doesn’t have any special gimmicks, and it isn’t quite as tough as the rest of the shields above it in this tier, but the Golden Greatshield is a great option for most heavier builds, especially when it can be easily farmed in both the Altus Plateau and Leyndell.

In a few places, such as northeast of Castle Morne and southwest of the Four Belfries, there is a small group of Spirit Jellyfish that spawn red and are always aggro. Which shields are worth upgrading Elden Ring?
Elden Ring: Should You Upgrade Shields – To put things simply, shields are absolutely worth upgrading even if an Elden Ring player never plans to use them offensively. This is because shields gain points of Guard Boost through strengthening them, though that stat does not increase by a full point every upgrade.
For the uninitiated, Guard Boost determines how much stamina is expended when an attack is blocked, with that stamina expenditure going to zero when the stat hits 100. For those shield-users that are looking to reach 100 Guard Boost with minimal investment, the Brass Shield is the best option. That is because this powerful Elden Ring shield can be equipped with just 16 strength, and it comes with a base Guard Boost of 56.
That stat can be increased to 65 by upgrading the Brass Shield to +18, and players can get the additional 35 points that they need to reach 100 Guard Boost by using the Barricade Shield skill. To assemble this setup, fans should make their way to the South Raya Lucaria Gate Site of Grace at the southeast corner of Elden Ring ‘s Academy of Raya Lucaria, Notably, Barricade Shield has a 15-second duration, which means that players may need to use it several times to maintain 100 Guard Boost for the entirety of a boss fight in Elden Ring, This should not prove to be very difficult, though, as Barricade Shield costs just 8 FP per activation.

How long does Jellyfish Shield last?
Elden Ring Jellyfish Shield location and stats – This shield is found in northwest Liurnia. Fast travel (opens in new tab) to the Foot of the Four Belfries Site of Grace and follow the path north. Quickly you should see four red jellies stalking a broken wagon and the corpses of two soldiers. (Image credit: FromSoftware) And that’s it. Here are the Jellyfish Shield’s key stats:
- Requires: 20 strength, 14 dexterity
- Skill: Contagious Fury – Incite the jellyfish’s wrath and allow its fury to flow through you. Raises attack power for a certain duration (+20% for 30 seconds).
Since this is a unique shield, you won’t be able to apply any Ashes of War (opens in new tab) to it. And since it’s a greatshield, you’re paying for the extra damage protection with increased carry weight. Make sure you’re staying below at least 70 percent equip weight to stay mobile.
But the best thing about this shield is its skill, Contagious Fury. When you use it your jelly will glow red and shower you in damage-boosting goodness for 30 seconds. That’s a boost to spells (opens in new tab) and weapons (opens in new tab), by the way. Interestingly, the shield’s description says it offers “absolutely no protection from piercing attacks,” which doesn’t appear to be the case in my testing.

Is jellyfish good against Margit?
Here’s our guide on how to beat Margit – It should be noted here that there are two phases to the fight with Margit. You’ll know when the second phase starts, as Margit will summon a golden hammer and start swinging it towards you. These attacks are both devastating and difficult to dodge, so keep a very close eye on when he is swinging at you.
- With that said, it’s not easy to just wander in and beat Margit; you’ll need to have a relatively strong character with a fair few special items.
- First of all, we’d recommend that you’re over level 20 if you’re going to beat Margit, while you’ll also need at least one summon – if you can bring in either the pack of wolves or the octopus to help you, you’ll find the fight a smidge easier.
- You’ll want to have boosted your base weapon to at least a +3 too.
- Also, try to get yourself a reasonably powerful long-range weapon, so you can deal damage from afar.
One of the most important items you can unlock is Margit’s Shackle, which can be bought from a vendor inside Murkwater Cave. It’s 5,000 runes, which is a fair amount, but it’s a very strong item that stuns Margit when used, allowing you to get some big hits in during the battle. Here’s our guide. Assuming you’ve got Margit’s Shackle, use it to stun the enemy in the first phase. You can only use it twice, and it isn’t available to you in the second phase of the fight. If you don’t have the shackle, make sure you’re rolling late to avoid Margit’s attacks.
It’s best to roll to the right, or towards Margit, which may seem counterintuitive, but can leave him vulnerable to attacks. Don’t roll early, as Margit can hold his attacks and catch you when you roll. When you do have the chance to attack, use either charged strong attacks or jumping strong attacks, which will chip away at his armour.
When the armour breaks, there’ll be a booming sound, and you’ll be able to land a devastating hit. If he does jump at you, there will be a small window of opportunity when he lands to hit him but be sure that you’re not in range of the shock his jump gives out.
- A screenshot taken from Elden Ring. (Credit: FromSoftware)
- This is where the hammer comes out.
- Margit can sweep with it and can also smash you with it when he lands his jump.
- Again, if you’re feeling very bold, you can technically parry these attacks but it’s a remarkably difficult strategy to pull off.
- Along with the golden hammer, Margit will also have a holy sword that he can use for a four-hit combo that deals pretty devastating damage to your character.
- Now, when you’re anticipating the attacks, make sure that you dodge towards him rather than away; it will unlock the option for you to hit a quick attack and slowly chip away at his health.
If you’ve got the jellyfish summon unlocked, make sure you use it in the second phase. While the jellyfish deals meagre melee damage, it spits poison out and that can have a cumulative effect on eating Margit’s health. There will also be times when Margit focuses on your summon, drawing his focus away from you and giving you the chance to get in a nice and juicy strong attack. Make sure that you’ve upgraded your health as well, so you get more than just the basic two flasks to use. You can upgrade your flasks to around five or six uses if you go exploring and find the right combination of resources. We’d recommend doing that, and also, finally, don’t get frustrated.
