Godfrey, First Elden Lord (Golden Shade) – Godfrey, First Elden Lord (Golden Shade) Climb up the tree branches in the southeast part of Leyndell to reach the Erdtree Sanctuary. Here, you’ll be confronted by a golden apparition version of Godfrey, First Elden Lord. The fight is essentially just phase one of the final Godfrey fight, which you’ll encounter near the end of the game.
Dodge through his different Axe attacks, and jump over the shockwave whenever he stomps down. Defeating Godfrey is necessary in order to reach the final boss of Leyndell. Doing so will net you 80,000 Runes and a Talisman Pouch. This should be your third or fourth Talisman slot by this point in the game, which opens the door to really dialing in your build.
After this fight, make sure you head down the stairs to get the Bolt of Gransax weapon before continuing on.

How do you progress through Lyndell Elden Ring?
The lower city – © FromSoftware To progress the main path of Leyndell, you need to climb up the wing of the fallen dragon in the middle of the capital. Start by heading down the stairs from Avenue Balcony (or alternatively take the path down opposite the Crucible night on the eastern end of the main street).
© FromSoftware At the end of the street, you’ll have the option to drop down into the lower grounds. There are valuable items here and in the sewers. Find the well here and you can also climb down into the optional Subterranean Shunning-Grounds region and the Leyndell Catacombs tomb.
This path leads to another boss fight and an alternative end to the game (once you beat Leyndell’s main boss). Even if you don’t intend to unlock this ending, we recommend returning here later. At the northern end of the street from the Avenue Balcony Site of Grace, you’ll find the dragon wing dips down to the side as shown in the image above.
This is where you need to go in Leyndell, Royal Capital to progress the main story. It might not look like it, but you can run up the dragon wing to reach the western side of the capital.

Where am i supposed to go in Leyndell?
West Capital Rampart – First order of business from this Site of Grace is going to be killing the nearby Gargoyle mini-boss. Go down the nearby stairs and walk along the top of the rampart until you come up to the Gargoyle standing guard in front of you.
He will not aggro until you attack, so use this opportunity to open with your strongest ability. Defeating the Gargoyles basically comes down to patience and consistency. Almost all of their attacks are forward slashes and stabs which can be easily dodged by rolling in or simply blocked with a 100% physical block shield.
These attacks usually only leave the Gargoyle open for about one counter attack, so take your shot wisely then go back on the defensive. The most punishable attacks are definitely his various aerial slams and ground stabs, so keep an eye out for these most of all.
- When he leaps backwards with his sword he is going to do a long range slash across the ground which you can dodge with a simple sideways roll.
- The attack you want to avoid most of all is the tornado slam, which he can only do with the axe.
- He will do a short hop and raise the axe high into the air as a whirlwind gathers around him, followed by multiple circular swings, then a giant slam.
This combination can easily break your shield leaving you open to the big hit, so just try and back off as soon as you see the first hit coming. With enough patience and proper dodges you can slowly whittle this annoying foe down and claim the Gargoyle’s Halberd he drops upon death, as well as the Golden Seed sitting by the golden tree nearby.
- With the Gargoyle down we can do some proper exploring.
- Head back to the Site of Grace to rest, then go down the staircase that is right outside the Site of Grace doorway.
- Below is a platform with a few Envoys, a lever that opens the large door below (connecting to the street above Avenue Balcony), and a Golden Rune,
Turn around and head back up the stairs, but make sure you grab the Cane Sword from the hallway next to the bottom of the stairs. Head back to where you battled the Gargoyle where you will find another staircase leading down into the rampart. Look out for the perfumer hiding next to the staircase (beware his triple explosive shot), then grab the Smithing Stone hanging over the nearby ledge.
advertisement Go back up to the top of the rampart and continue following it down, past the spot where you battled the Gargoyle and up onto the giant tree root. Take a right and follow the tree root down into the sandy area below. You will encounter some dogs waiting at the bottom, but more importantly some wooden shacks to the left, one of which has an item hanging off of it.
Use the smaller shack to climb onto the taller one and grab the Golden Rune off the top. This shack is leaning up against a balcony that allows you to get inside the giant building it is leaning up against. Head through the door and you will find yourself in a familiar location: the Roundtable.
- In this first hallway you will find the Sanctified Whetblade and Hammer weapon.
- Look down the staircase to the left where you will find a Smithing Stone, then enter the room on the left side of the hall to find two more items: a Hero’s Rune and the By My Sword gesture.
- Head into the main roundtable room where you will find a Rune Arc on the table.
On the balcony you will find a Smithing Stone, Head to Sir Gideon’s room to find a Furlcalling Finger Remedy, then go to the back room where Dungeater would be hanging out where you will find another Seedbed Curse, Finally open the door to the main room where the Two-Fingers would normally be to find the Coded Sword,
- Go back to the hallway where the blacksmith would be normally and drop down the broken staircase where you found the Smithing Stone earlier.
- Take an immediately left and go down the hall into the dining room at the end where you will find Black-Key Bolt x20 and Two Finger’s Prayerbook,
- Make your way back down the hallway and into the main hall of the manor where you will find Alberich’s Armor Set near the front.
Go through the doorway closest to the armor set where you can find a Smithing Stone hidden in the corner behind some weapon racks. Go through the connecting dining hall and you will find a small room with the Fortified Manor First Floor Site of Grace and the ” Flightless Bird” Painting,
Return to the main hall and go to the final doorway you haven’t explored. Push open the door then go through the door at the end of the hallway to arrive in a courtyard patrolled by two Abductors. Take them on one by one, carefully blocking their charging attacks and waiting for them to open their hatch and expose their weak spot.
Once both are dead you are free to grab the items scattered around the courtyard: Somber Smithing Stone in the outer hall, Stormhawk Axe and Nascent Butterfly x3 in the garden. There is an elevator nearby that will take you up to the Divine Bridge Site of Grace, and a teleporter that will take you to the Isolated Divine Tower which we cannot yet access.
Instead, return to the first floor of the fortified manor and get ready to explore the area outside of it. Step out through the front door and go immediately left where you will encounter two knights: one with a spear and another with a bow. To avoid being destroyed by arrows, try and draw the spear knight into one of the wooden shacks to the right of the path.
Here you can easily defeat him in a one on one duel, then step out and run up on the bow knight with ease. Once both are defeated you can grab the Old Fang x5 from the nearby shack, then the Gravel Stone x3 behind the dragon. Next, climb up onto the dragon’s leg and jump off of its talon and onto the wooden shack below it.
- From here you can make a running jump into the taller adjacent wooden shack and grab the two items inside: Smithing Stone and Stonesword Key,
- Advertisement Teleport back to the West Capital Rampart Site of Grace and make your way down the rampart once again, this time walking under the giant tree root and up the stairs on the other side.
You will immediately encounter a Duelist enemy patrolling up and down the path. These guys are incredibly susceptible to being Guard Countered, so put your shield up and beat him down. Continue up the path until you reach the building at the top where you will face another Duelist and find the Ritual Shield Talisman,
- Go right from the front door and into the archway where you will find a Furlcalling Finger Remedy,
- Next, make your way around to the other side of the building where you will find a Smithing Stone hanging over the cliff, and the Star Fist weapon inside the archway on the other side.
- Make your way back down to the staircase at the base of the hill.
Look over the railing and you will see some plant enemies on a cliffside below. Drop down then go down the staircase on the left side of the cliff to find a Smithing Stone on the broken bridge. Get back on the cliffside and follow it to the end where you will find another large tree root you can climb.
- Head up the tree root, taking note of the tree warrior enemies along the way.
- They are relatively weak and their attacks are easily blocked with a good shield, but there are a lot of them so be careful not to get overwhelmed especially considering the limited space.
- Navigate the path carefully, working your way up to the very highest root which will lead you to a large chapel.
Before you enter the chapel, run down the thin root that breaks off from the larger one near the top which will lead you to the roof below. Go around the corner to find an enemy and a Holy Grease x3. If you feel ready to take on the mid-boss, head back to the chapel and go inside to find.

What turns Lyndell to Ash?
Leyndell, Capital of Ash – After defeating Maliketh in Crumbling Faram Azula, you are automatically transported back to Leyndell, which is now covered in ash from the burning of the Erdtree. You will be placed right beside a new site of grace in the center of the area. The lower city area is basically all destroyed or covered in ash, so most items in it are lost, and there aren’t any more enemies here. Though you are still able to get to the Underground area using a large manhole that is now open in the middle of the main road leading to the new closed gate. Your main goal now is to continue back to the Erdtree, to go inside now that the thorns are burned. The only way in now is heading to the southwest, then taking the lift up to the Erdtree sanctuary. When should I go to Capital Elden Ring?
Elden Ring is a massive game, one that will keep you exploring, fighting, and dying for countless hours. Coincidentally, its vast landscapes, interconnected regions, cryptic information, and open-ended nature will make you wonder just where you need to go next.
Here’s our Elden Ring progression guide to help you with the best order in which you’ll tackle the areas and bosses in the campaign. Since we’ll talk about your journey from start to finish, please be warned that this guide contains spoilers. Although Elden Ring does have an open-ended and loose campaign structure, general progression is done by defeating major bosses and activating their Great Runes.
While there are seven of these, you’re only required to activate two before a Roundtable NPC, Enia, tells you to go to the capital to become the Elden Lord. At this point, Leyndell Royal Capital can be visited, where you’ll battle more bosses to reach the throne room and the Erdtree. However, we do suggest tackling as many optional and secret areas as possible so you can better arm yourself and truly experience the Lands Between.
- Limgrave is where you’ll start your adventure in Elden Ring,
- It features some of the easiest encounters in the entire campaign, as well as a tutorial area if you drop down the pit where the old man’s ghost is in the cave where you spawn in.
- Ideally, you’ll want to head to a Site of Grace called Gatefront, as that’s where an important NPC, Melina, will provide your mount, Torrent, and a means of leveling up,
Once you have your horse, you need to fast travel back to the Church of Elleh as another NPC, Renna, will give you the Spirit Calling Bell, which allows you to summon specters to aid you in battle. In any case, the two bosses in this region, Margit the Fell Omen and Godrick the Grafted (who holds a Great Rune), present challenges that you’ll want to overcome. If you’re having a tough time, you could always explore the rest of Limgrave, even going further south to Castle Morne in the Weeping Peninsula,
- Likewise, a mini-dungeon called Murkwater Cave has a boss that’s familiar to veterans of the Souls series.
- This boss, Patches, can be forgiven, subsequently letting you buy an item that stuns Margit (or you can kill him and use his bell bearing on the Twins in Roundtable Hold).
- Lastly, if all else fails, you can always follow the cliffside path that loops north from the Stormhill Shack Site of Grace to reach Liurnia of the Lakes.
Assuming you’ve beaten both Godrick and Rennala, and have two Great Runes that are activated, Enia in Roundtable Hold will say that you’re allowed to head to Leyndell Royal Capital. The destination itself is a requirement for campaign progression in Elden Ring, However, the journey to the capital is fraught with endless danger and the hostiles there will annihilate you in the blink of an eye if you’re unprepared. As such, it’s better to venture forth to other areas. Altus Plateau acts as a transition area. It offers a wide-spanning environment with several dungeons, camps, enemies, and opportunities to continue leveling.
While there are no major bosses here that hold Great Runes, it does connect several regions, including Leyndell Royal Capital. To get here, you can use the Ruin-Strewn Precipice by following the river north of Liurnia of the Lakes as it cuts through the ravine.
Moreover, the region of Caelid further east of Limgrave still awaits. This zone is blighted by the Scarlet Rot, a disease that’s a more extreme form of poison if ever your character gets afflicted with it. The goal here is to travel to Castle Redmane in the southeast to defeat Starscourge Radahn and activate his Great Rune in the Divine Tower of Caelid,
This place below, Nokron Eternal City, is a secret area filled with Black Slime enemies that can mimic other fighters. In fact, this is also where you can acquire the Mimic Tear Ashes, one of the best Spirit Ash summons in the game. This summon will make your life a lot easier since it creates a clone of your character, complete with damage scaling based on your stats and equipped weapons at the time of casting.
The Witch Ranni quest chain takes you to multiple regions and dungeons, including the inverted Carian Study Hall, Nokstella Eternal City, and the Lake of Rot. You may also tackle the challenges in Deeproot Depths while you’re at it. These locations will allow you to unlock secret endings later on.
- Furthermore, it’s possible to head to yet another region called Mount Gelmir.
- You can reach this by following the northern road in Altus Plateau as it winds to the west.
- Eventually, you’ll see a battlefield and a landmark called Corpse-Stench Shack.
- If you check the cliffs, you’ll find a ladder that you can climb.
You’ll then follow the path to Mount Gelmir proper, eventually taking you to a spot overlooking Volcano Manor. Volcano Manor presents many opportunities to invade NPCs by way of missions. But, an anguished spirit will also give you a task to defeat Rykard, Lord of Blasphemy, When you’re ready (or not), you can head to Leyndell Royal Capital by following Altus Plateau’s main highways as they lead east.
However, our main objective is to get to the castle and, eventually, eliminate Morgott, the Omen King, Beating him might make you think that you’ve also beaten the game. But, that’s not the case, as the way to the Erdtree is barred. You’re then asked by Melina to pass through the capital’s eastern exit.
Continue onward until you’re at the Forbidden Lands and the Grand Lift of Rold, There, you’ll be able to use a regular medallion to arrive at the Mountaintops of the Giants. Coincidentally, there’s also another secret area that we can get to. If you’re able to acquire the two halves of the Haligtree Secret Medallion, you can use this key item to reach the Consecrated Snowfield.
By completing the flame puzzle in Ordina Liturgical Town, you can advance further into the Haligtree to battle Malenia, Blade of Miquella, Now, if you went ahead to explore the Mountaintops of the Giants, you’ll eventually put down the Fire Giant, Beyond, you should see a great cauldron where a major decision regarding Melina’s fate has to be made. After you’ve made your decision, you’ll awaken in Crumbling Farum Azula, a smaller zone with a gigantic tornado wreaking havoc in the center.
One last thing: when you’ve defeated the final boss, you’ll find yourself on a stone platform with a Site of Grace and a statue of the Fractured Marika. Make sure you have a backup save while you’re here. This is where you can choose from the different endings you’ve unlocked.

What level should I be for Melania Elden Ring?
Elden Ring: How to beat Malenia – Malenia is a devastating foe, but you can best her. © FromSoftware To beat the Malenia boss fight in Elden Ring, you’ll need to prepare in advance. This isn’t a fight you should go into without the right items, armor, or build. We don’t recommend facing her until you’re at least level 120.
- Ideally, you’ll want to be closer to level 150.
- In addition, your weapons and equipment should all be upgraded to max level before you fight her.
- Because of the serious challenge Malenia presents, this is a boss you should spend Rune Arcs on, though we recommend learning how to beat her first phase before you start consuming them.
We found equipping either Radahn or Morgott’s Great Rune valuable for the increase to maximum health. Below are the key Malenia tips you should keep in mind before beginning the battle.
