How good is the Uchigatana Elden Ring?
Uchigatana – This is the starting weapon for the Samurai class and can also be found out in the world fairly early in the game, but even so, don’t underestimate the Uchgatana’s strength. While it might not be as flashy as the others on this list, it is light, quick, and has surprisingly long range.
- But the best thing is, as the Uchigatana is a normal weapon, it can be upgraded to +25 in the Roundtable Hold.
- The Standard upgrade route takes it from its base physical damage of 115 to its max physical damage of 281.
- But its Dex scaling will peak at C.
- However, if you use the Whetstone Knife and make the blade Keen, the physical damage will lower to 258, but with a Dex scaling of A.
This means, the higher your Dexterity, the more bonus damage the Uchigatana will do on top with every swing. Like most katanas, the Uchigatana also inflicts bleed build-up (or Hemorrhage). Combine this with the blade’s quick strikes and the fact the majority of enemies and bosses in Elden Ring are weak to bleed, and you’ve easily got yourself one of the deadliest weapons in the game.

Which Uchigatana is the best?
S-Tier –
Uchigatana: Surprisingly, the starter Uchigatana is arguably the best katana in the entire game. It’s quick, light, and, like other katanas stacks Bleed—which tends to dispatch bosses relatively quickly. The main reason why the Uchigatana is so high on the list though is, like other normal weapons, it can be upgraded to +25 with the use of regular Smithing Stones. Nagakiba: Another regular katana option is also an S-tier choice for the same reasons. The Nagakiba, however, has an even longer range than the Uchigatana, which makes it especially useful in PvP encounters. Hand of Malenia: The one drawback with the Hand of Malenia is that players only get this item near the end of the game. It’s got a reach that rivals the Nagakiba and a unique weapon ability—an attack that Malenia uses—that is absolutely devastating. Rivers of Blood: While Rivers of Blood was initially hampered by a scaling glitch that left it rather ineffective, the latest patch allows players to experience it at its true potential. With both amazing base stats and a unique weapon skill that rivals the Hand of Malenia, Rivers of Blood is now right up there with the best katanas available.

How to Find the Uchigatana Location in Elden Ring – If you start as the Samurai class in Elden Ring, you’ll automatically have the Uchigatana as your starting weapon. But for those who want to power stance with it or that choose any other starting class ( there are better choices than Samurai depending on your playstyle), the Uchigatana is secreted away in the Lands Between. To get the Elden Ring Uchigatana in Deathtouched Catacombs, first go to Warmaster’s Shack. If you don’t know where Warmaster’s Shack is, it’s east of the Stormhill Shack Site of Grace on the road to Stormveil Castle. From Warmaster’s Shack, go through the forest north of the Shack.
- Look for the rocks rising up on the right side, and go east up to the plateau in the shadow of the tall stone bridge cutting through the area.
- Once you reach the plateau, go east.
- Continue past the large, square ruins (the square box on the map of the plateau), then drop down at the cliffs beyond it.
- The entrance to the Deathtouched Catacombs is where the cliffs round slightly on the map.
You’ll see a ghost kneeling outside the door. Go inside Deathtouched Catacombs, and rest at the Site of Grace. Go down the stairs and left at the bottom. Go down two more sets of stairs, then turn a 180 at the bottom. Looking back toward the stairs you just descended, go through the small door on the left, just past the small archway.

Uchi is a weapon that can carry you to end game if you +15 it. It’s worth buying the stuff the Male Merchant sells exclusively and then murdering him for his sword. You might want to use any extra souls to level up and die on purpose until you make it to Andre’s because killing him gives you sin and that makes you able to be invaded by Darkmoons.
Red phantoms right now aren’t as big of a threat as Blues. Reds can only be 10 levels +10% above you at max. They could twink sure, but a level 100 Darkmoon can invade a level 30 if that tells you how far down they can invade. Once you’re at Andre’s (or you’ve set up the elevator down to Firelink and you’re at Firelink), go human and make a run for the boss.
You’ll earn more than enough souls after killing the Gargoyles to pay Oswald for Absolution. Absolution removes sin and can make you free from Darkmoon invasions unless you’re indicted via pvp. You get the Uchi at the start of the game this way. Otherwise you need to join the Forest Clan.
This will spawn Shiva (and his bodyguard) near the building with Alvana (the giant talking cat). Speak to Shiva and exhaust his dialogue and he’ll move to lower Blighttown near the elevator. Once he’s there you can buy the Uchi for 10,000 souls. It’s most likley cheaper to kill the merchant for his because the formula for Absolution is (500 x’s SL) SL meaning Soul Level.
If your character is SL 10 then the cost for Absolution is 5000 Souls. If you’re level 20 or below it’s the same price as buying it from Shiva without needing to travel to Blighttown. Most likely you’ll be under that for the Gargoyles. Is there a better katana than the Uchigatana?
Katana vs Uchigatana: What’s the Difference? The katana and uchigatana are two of the most popular and widely recognized traditional Japanese swords. Originating during the region’s feudal period, they were carried and used by samurai warriors. Both the katana and uchigatana feature a similar design, including a curved blade, but there are some stark differences between the two swords that shouldn’t go unnoticed.
- So, what’s the difference between the katana and uchigatana exactly, and which of these traditional Japanese swords comes out on top? Overview of the Katana The katana first appeared in Japan during the Kamakura Period (1185 to 1333).
- Back then, the term “katana” was used to describe a single-edged, curved sword that was longer than the tachi.
It was produced out of need for better weapons. During the Kamakura period, Japanese armies had trouble defending their land against the Mongolians due to their enemies’ thick, hard-boiled leather armor. Samurai warriors discovered that their swords were unable to penetrate the Mongolians’ armor, so bladesmiths began working on new swords, resulting in the invention of the katana.
As you may know, the katana features a curved, single-edged blade – something for which it’s well known throughout the world. By designing the katana this way, bladesmiths in feudal Japan were able to create a better weapon that could easily cut through hard-boiled leather armor. The katana’s curved blade, along with its use of high-carbon steel, allows it to flex without breaking.
Overview of the Uchigatana Also a descendant of the tachi, the uchigatana is a traditional Japanese sword that, like the katana, dates back to the country’s Kamakura period. And if you compare a picture of the katana next to that of the uchigatana, you probably won’t be able to tell the difference.
- This is because both of these traditional Japanese swords feature a curved, single-edge blade, and they both measure about 23 to 38 inches long.
- How the Katana Differs From the Uchigatana The primary difference between the katana and uchigatana lies in their quality of construction.
- The katana is generally regarded as a higher quality sword made of premium materials and superior craftsmanship.
It typically took months for a bladesmith to produce a katana, whereas an uchigatana could be constructed in just weeks. According to Wikipedia, the uchigatana was a disposable weapon due to its low-quality construction. After a samurai warrior used this sword, he would dispose of it and replace it with a new one.

Should I put bleed on my Uchigatana?
The best weapons for a Bleed build – It may be surprising, but the best weapon for a Bleed build is the Uchigatana, the starting weapon of the Samurai class, and it’s even better if you can get two of them. One Uchigatana can be found on a corpse inside the, but starting as the Samurai is the only way to get a second one on your own.
If you didn’t happen to start as the Samurai, your next-best Bleed option is basically any other Katana. (When you have weapons of the same type in each hand, you can use Power Stance.) The Moonveil is a good early option, with a very powerful Ash of War ability. The Rivers of Blood Katana is also great, but you’ll have to get pretty far into the game before you can get it.

Should I put bloody slash on the Uchigatana?
Elden Ring Bleed Build: Weapons – With this build being focused on utilising Arcane and Dex to inflict Bleed, you’ve got a few options to choose from when it comes to the best Bleed weapons, featuring some of Elden Ring’s best weapons, and all of them look incredibly cool.
Dragon Communion Seal – With this build’s Incantations primarily being dragon ones, this seal is your go-to, as it buffs all dragon communion incantations by 15%. It also increases the build-up of status effects cause by spells, and the seal scales with Arcane. You’ll need 10 Faith and 10 Arcane to use it. Rivers of Blood – The Rivers of Blood katana is one of my favourites, with its skill – Corpse Piler – being a repeat slash attack that can inflict a huge Bleed build-up on enemies. You can grab this by defeating Bloody Finger Okina outside the Church of Repose in the southeast of the Mountaintops of the Giants. It requires 12 Strength, 18 Dex, and 20 Arcane to wield. Blood Uchigatana – If you’re starting as a Samurai, you’ll already have the Uchigatana, but it can also be easily acquired from the Deathtouched Catacombs in Limgrave. The Uchigatana causes Bleed build-up passively, but if you infuse it with a Bleed Ash of War, such as Bloody Slash, it’ll cause even more blood loss. It requires to 11 Strength and 15 Dexterity. Godskin Peeler – The Godskin Peeler will need to be scaled with Dexterity in this build, and requires a little strength to wield (Radagon’s Soreseal will help in a pinch), and it probably gains the second top-spot after Rivers of Blood for me. The twinblade doesn’t cause Bleed initially, but is arguably one of the most powerful weapons in the game regardless with its skill, Black Flame Tornado, and can be infused with a Blood Ash of War. You’ll need 17 Strength and 22 Dex for this weapon. Eleonara’s Poleblade – This twinblade puts on a good show, that’s for sure. With its skill, Bloodblade Dance, you can perform a tornado-like attack of slashes and deal plenty of Bleed damage. Its downfall is that it can’t be infused with an Ash of War, but it’s still a strong choice due to its unique attacks, Bleed and Fire damage, and its ability to stagger enemies. This weapon requires 12 Strength, 24 Dexterity, and 19 Arcane. Blood Nagakiba – Similarly to the Uchigatana, the Nagakiba is all the more powerful when infused with a blood Ash of War. It will cause bleed passively as is, but with an Ash of War, this can be doubled. If you’re wielding the Uchigatana, this is a great choice for a dual-wield. You’ll need 18 Strength and 22 Dexterity for this one. Serpent-God’s Blood Curved Sword – This is at the bottom of all weapon options because it’s perhaps the last weapon I’d go for, but if you’re committed to more of a challenge and have extra points to apply to Strength, the Serpent-God’s Blood Curved Sword could work for you. It scales with Strength and Dexterity, so if your Dex stats are low, this isn’t worth bothering with. When infused with a Blood Ash of War and upgraded, however, the weapon can scale with Arcane. You’ll need 13 Strength, and 9 Dexterity. Mohgwyn’s Sacred Spear – This is probably better suited for a New Game Plus run, since you obtain it by trading Mohg’s Remembrance after defeating the Lord of Blood, but it’s an excellent weapon either way. The spear deals normal and fire damage, has a high chance of landing critical hits, and comes with a deadly skill, Bloodboon Ritual. The skill stabs three times and creates blood explosions, then coats your weapon with Bloodflame, which can even damage enemies behind walls. It needs a whopping 24 Strength, and 14 Dexterity, and 27 Arcane to wield.
