Chapter 4: The Liturgical Town – Hoist the secret medallion at the Grand Lift of Rold to reach the Consecrated Snowfield. Image: FromSoftware/Bandai Namco via Polygon The next step is a bit of a puzzle, if only because of Elden Ring ‘s occasionally confusing interface quirks. The now-complete medallion’s description informs you that you have to use it at the Grand Lift of Rold,
But didn’t you already use the Rold elevator to reach the Mountaintop of the Giants in the first place? How do you actually use the Haligtree Secret Medallion? The solution is deceptively simple. Return to the Grand Lift of Rold and stand where the prompt to use the Rold Medallion appears. Then, press left or right on your controller’s d-pad to show the option to use the Secret Medallion instead.
The lift will head down instead of up, and you’ll find yourself in the Hidden Path to the Haligtree dungeon. The dungeon is a bit of a pain, but you don’t actually have to finish it right now. Simply head up the stairs, past the giant Land Octopus and the Vulgar Militia enemies, and turn right to reach the dungeon’s site of grace. Head for the Inner Consecrated Snowfield site of grace and the Consecrated Snowfield map fragment. Image: FromSoftware/Bandai Namco via Polygon Open your map and make a beeline for the Map Stele, You should find the Consecrated Snowfield and Inner Consecrated Snowfield sites of grace on the way. Try not to get squashed by the giant Spectral Dragonkin Soldiers that will spawn and harass you.
Ordina, Liturgical Town. Image: FromSoftware/Bandai Namco via Polygon From the Stele, keep heading north until you reach the Ordina, Liturgical Town site of grace, just outside the entrance to said town. Next up, a quick detour to get some gear that will help you here.
If you don’t already have the Sentry Torch in your inventory, go buy it from the merchant north of Leyndell, just inside the city’s outer wall, near the Outer Wall Battleground Site of Grace, Next, if you haven’t done so already, solve the Mirage Rise puzzle on the western edge of the Altus Plateau forest to earn the Unseen Form spell.
Do whatever you have to do to be able to cast this — re-spec to put points into intelligence, or use talismans or head gear to get the stat up as high as needed. It’s essential to completing Ordina without tearing your hair out. Lastly, back at Ordina, explore the town’s outer edge until you find the Black Knife Armor under an archway on the north side.
Wearing it reduces the sound you make. If you followed our Volcano Manor guide, you should also have the Crepus’s Vial talisman, which accomplishes the same thing. Make your way to the evergaol teleporter on the town’s north side. The nearby hint book will tell you to “light the four figures” inside, though as you’ll find out, that’s easier said than done.
Inside the evergaol version of the town, you’ll be assaulted by deadly-accurate magical archers, plus invisible, nigh-unkillable Black Knife Assassins, Luckily, you have one advantage on your side: The Sentry Torch you may or may not have just purchased will reveal the assassins to you, so make sure to have it equipped in your off-hand.
Keep the Sentry Torch equipped in your off-hand if you want to avoid being ambushed by an invisible assassin. This torch reveals these foes even when you two-hand your main weapon. Engage with the enemies as little as possible ; they’re comically overpowered no matter your level. This is meant to be a stealth mission. If you die inside the evergaol, you can pick up your runes at the same spot in the overworld, without risking being killed again. You can explore the overworld version of the town as much as you want to familiarize yourself with the layout before venturing into the evergaol. Once you light a fire, you don’t have to light it again, even if you’re killed and have to start the evergaol over.
Ladder to the first flame. Image: FromSoftware/Bandai Namco via Polygon When you enter the evergaol, turn immediately west and jump over the short wall to the ground below. An assassin patrols the nearby street, so confirm it isn’t in your path, and then continue around the western edge of the town until you reach a ladder.
Climb it to light the first fire. Climb back down and continue to the south, skirting around the edge of town. You’ll reach the point where the Site of Grace is in the overworld. The next statue is up the stairs from here, but there’s an invisible assassin guarding it. Unfortunately, we haven’t found a way to sneak by this guy, so you’ll have to fight him.
Treat him like a boss and you’ll have him dispatched in no time. Light the second candle. Watch for this ladder to reach the third statue. Image: FromSoftware/Bandai Namco via Polygon From there, return to the main stairs and creep along the railing, past multiple stacks of barrels against the side of a building. Continue to skirt the building around several corners and you’ll reach another ladder. Climb it for the third statue.
Fourth flame location. Image: FromSoftware/Bandai Namco via Polygon You can now see the path that will lead you north across the rooftops to the fourth flame. This is where you should cast Unseen Form, or else the archers to the north will harry you the whole way.
- With the semi-invisibility spell and one or another sound-dampening effect active, you should be able to get most of the way there before they notice you, and you can bum rush the nearest one without taking a hit.
- Then climb the ladder and you’re home free.
- After lighting the fourth candle, you’ll be returned to the overworld.
The impassable seal at the top of the stairway on the town’s north side has been opened, and beyond it is the teleporter that will take you, at last, to Miquella’s Haligtree. And if you thought all that was a pain, just wait until you get a load of the Envoys in the branches.

Where do I use the Haligtree Secret Medallion?
Journey To The Consecrated Snowfield –
With both Haligtree Secret Medallion halves in hand, return to the Grand Lift of Rold located at the northern end of the Forbidden Lands, At the lift, you will receive a prompt to select which Medallion you wish to use. Select ” Hoist Secret Medallion,” Following this path will take you to the Consecrated Snowfield. After riding blind through the snowstorm and reaching the Inner Consecrated Snowfield site of grace, you will find the area’s map fragment to the north, just across the frozen river and beside a large tree. Keep an eye out for patrolling wolves in the area.
Journey to the very northwestern part of Consecrated Snowfield. You will need to ride past one of the more dangerous Walking Mausoleums (better to bring it down before proceeding). Continue past the Walking Mausoleum to the Apostate Derelict, an old abandoned church ruin in the snowfields (marked with a red circle on the map above).
Inside, you will discover a Giant Albinauric Woman resting in the ruins. Interact with her, and Latenna will appear and speak with the Giant Albinauric Woman, completing her quest. After speaking with her, Latenna will address you: Thank you. I’ve finally fulfilled my purpose.
- Our young yet towering sister will give us hope.
- Now that nothing is left unfinished, I will join you in battle to the bitter end.
- And when the fighting is done, then you may lay me to rest.
- Beside Lobo, my dear wolf.
- Latenna will then grant you a Somber Ancient Dragon Smithing Stone, one of only eight found in the entire game.

Where do I take the Haligtree medallion Elden Ring?
Haligtree Secret Medallion (Right) – advertisement Once you have completed Leyndell and gained access to the Mountaintops of the Giants you can go to Castle Sol, located at the bottom of the cliffs in the northeast corner of this region. This is a tough dungeon.
You will encounter two of the powerful Lion enemies at the gates, many invisible soldiers, turrets, stormhawks, and teleporting knights. At the end you will have to battle the dungeon boss, Commander Niall, and his two summoned knights. You will want to defeat the knights first, starting with the quicker, dual-wielding knight.
He is easy to separate from the pack then abuse with Guard Counters. A shield with the Barricade Shield ability does wonders here. Commander Niall seems to get a huge boost in power once his allies have been defeated, so at this point you can choose to defeat the second knight the same way or take Commander Niall on in a two versus one.
I recommend just killing the knight and dealing with Niall’s extra power in exchange for a simpler fight. For such a big guy Niall is surprisingly mobile, with a lot of dash and jump moves that can cross the battlefield in a flash. If you need time to heal or recharge your stamina make sure you are doing it when he is cooling down from an attack, not charging one up or you are likely to be caught off guard.
Any time he begins charging up, creating a flurry of snow around him, you just want to back off. All of these attacks are incredibly powerful, some of them hitting nearly the entire arena. It is better to just get back and afford yourself some extra reaction time, as well as an opening to punish the rest time afterwards.
Eep an eye out for his electric blade attacks as well, which are powerful but incredibly telegraphed making them easy to dodge and punish. He almost always follows up his strong attacks with a few weaker spear swings. These are your chance to block and fit in a Guard Counter, sometimes even multiple across one combo.
Defeating him will get you the Veteran’s Prosthesis weapon. Exit out the door in the back of the arena and follow the path up to the top where you will find another ghost you can listen to, as well as the Haligtree Secret Medallion (Left), With both halves of the medallion in hand you can return to the bottom of the Grand Lift of Rold where you will now have the option to “Hoist secret medallion”.

Should I show Latenna the secret medallion?
Latenna’s location – You’ll find the cave’s entrance on a cliff face on the lake. Make your way to the Lakeside Crystal Cave, just southeast of the Village of the Albinaurics. After defeating the Bloodhound Knight boss (who shouldn’t be too much of a challenge), head out the door to find Latenna, kneeling beside her injured wolf Lobo outside the Slumbering Wolf Shack.
Show her the medallion to progress her questline. Talk to her, and show her the medallion Albus gave you to gain her trust. She will ask you to show her the way to Miquella’s Haligtree, promising to lead you to the medallion’s other half in exchange. Hear her request, and she’ll reward you with Latenna the Albinauric, a powerful Spirit Summon that’s great for long-range battles.

What do I do with both medallions?
Where to find Dectus Medallion (right) – The Fort Faroth medallion is very easy to snag if you’re not worried about losing any Runes you’re carrying. Credit: FromSoftware Not so fast, says Fort Faroth. You’ll find this one in Dragonbarrow, the small region situated to the north of Caelid, whose main feature is an enormous and ancient white dragon.
- Fort Faroth is just behind and to the east of that dragon.
- You’ll need to travel through Caelid to get there so, you know, be careful and stay on your horse as much as possible if you’re finding the enemies too challenging to manage.
- That challenge doesn’t exactly ease up once you reach the fort itself, but just like Fort Haight, a nimble and quick-thinking player can bypass the steepest challenges this location serves up.
It’s pretty quiet outside when you first arrive, but the main floor of Fort Faroth is overrun by giant bats, with some just chilling out on the ground and others hanging from the rafters. You can ignore them all, and you’ll want to if you’re not equipped to stave off the effects of poison as these bats release clouds of poison mist as one of their main attacks.
- Run in through the front door and head toward the back left corner of that first room.
- Turn left and you’ll see a much larger, high-ceilinged room with a door at the opposite end.
- Sprint directly to that door and immediately climb the ladder you find there.
- If you do all of this quickly enough, the bats shouldn’t be able to hit you.
And that’s actually it for this location if you’re just here to unlock the Grand Lift of Dectus. There’s a chest at the top of the ladder, and the medallion half is inside. If you’re feeling courageous, you could also delve deeper into Fort Faroth and try to grab the incredibly useful (Opens in a new tab) Radagon’s Soreseal talisman (Opens in a new tab),

Image: FromSoftware/Bandai Namco via Polygon You can only equip one Talisman at a time in the beginning of your Elden Ring playthrough. Eventually, you’ll acquire up to three additional Talisman Pouches. Here’s where you can find the other three Talisman Pouches in Elden Ring :
Obtained after beating Margit, the Fell Omen, Given by Finger Reader Enia in Roundtable Hold after you’ve acquired two Great Runes. Obtained after beating Godfrey, First Elden Lord,
Can you lay Latenna to rest with her wolf?
Spirit Ash Latenna – Easily one of the best spirit ashes in the game, Latenna acts as a ‘turret’ option that fires long range, powerful arrows (three at a time) at an enemy currently engaged in battle with you. She does not move – unless summoned near a Dire Wolf she will use as a mount – but can draw aggression or provide long-range support.
In order to continue Latenna’s quest, you’ll need to complete all the content leading up to the Mountaintops of the Giants, Clearing Leyndell is essential to this progression. As a result, you’ll need to put this quest on the backburner for a long while before picking it back up again. Once Leyndell is cleared and you’ve reached the Mountaintops of the Giants, head as far north as you can manage until you reach Castle Sol. You should hear Latenna’s voice instructing you about the medallion near Castle Sol. Brave the lightning, storm the castle, and head to the infamously difficult final boss:,
- Many players have reported Latenna never speaking to them in the Mountaintops of the Giants – a glitch also personally stumbled upon.
- If Latenna never speaks to you, the quest progresses as normal regardless.
- Do not fret if she does not; it will not have an impact on the ending.
- Once the commander is dispatched, venture farther into the castle and take the lift to the rooftop.
There, you’ll find a lonely ghost looking out over the edge. You’ll receive the left side of the Haligtree Secret Medallion nearby in a chest. In order to use the full Haligtree Secret Medallion, return to the Lift of Rold – the lift that originally took you to the Mountaintops of the Giants. You’ll need to place yourself at the bottom in order to use the medallion. Stand upon the lift to trigger the ability to lift a medallion, and notice that you now have the prompt to Switch Action.
Switching will turn the Hoist Medallion prompt into Hoist Secret Medallion. Do so, and you’ll be brought to the Hidden Path to the Haligtree. Venture through this complicated dungeon to eventually come to the Consecrated Snowfield. Once here, Latenna should (but not always) inform you that she has gone on ahead to the Haligtree herself, and that you’ll be able to find the path to it by traveling to Ordina,
However, this is not part of her quest and is an optional side endeavor should you so choose to follow it. Venturing all the way through the Consecrated Snowfield, follow the frozen river past Ordina to the large hillside. It is here that you should hear, and eventually see, a above you. Travel towards, it but take extra caution to avoid its barrage of icy magical attacks,
Once inside the Apostate Derelict, you will see a large Albinauric woman resting against the far wall. As you near her, you will receive the prompts to pick up the item – a Silver Mirrorshield – and Summon Latenna. Once summoned, Latenna will gift the woman with a “birthing droplet” and request of her to create life for all Albinaurics.
- Afterward, she will turn to you and both pledge to fight with you, and request that you eventually lay her to rest with her wolf, Lobo, at the Slumbering Wolf Shack.
- This, however, is not a route to concern yourself with.
- Latenna remains a spirit ash summons for the entirety of the game, and she will gift you with a Somber Ancient Dragon Smithing Stone as her quest comes to a satisfying end.

Can you lay Latenna to rest with Lobo?
Toad 17 May, 2022 @ 3:09am You can’t. Her quest ends in the Consecrated Snowfields, beyond the Grand Lift of Rold. Poor Lobo will have to chill alone from now, unless you volunteer to replace Latenna and stay with him for the rest of his / your days. Yes, it’s Froms fault you don’t understand where her quest ends. poor Latenna, i just try to keep my promise after my waifu telling me the war is over. It was my impression that Lobo was dead. The line “Or have you come to take more from me? Was my other half not enough?” is obviously talking about Lobo, and normally when “something is taken from you” yet is physically there, it means it’s dead. Na²-L 17 May, 2022 @ 4:44am Considering you can still use her as Spirit Ash after finishing her questline, I guess the war isn’t truly over until you quit playing, but that’s a bit meta. Technically, you don’t become elden lord until that play through is done and you begin journey 2, until then, your just stalling until the last second before moving on. Your free to imagine what your tarnish will do when you move on and leave that instance of the world to restart a new journey with the same character. Yeah this sounds like headcanon territory to me, aka what-your-eldie-lord-does-post-ending.
