How many copies has Elden Ring sold?
One Year Later, ‘Elden Ring’ Announces 20 Million Copies Sold Elden Ring FromSoftware We are just days away from the first anniversary of Elden Ring, but ahead of that milestone, Bandai Namco has come out to that the game has sold 20 million copies in its first year of release.
- The companies would like to thank everyone who has played this game from the bottom of their hearts, and will continue to develop various ways for the fans to enjoy the world of Elden Ring in the future,” a statement from Bandai Namco and FromSoftware said.
- The Game of the Year winner has dramatically outperformed every other FromSoftware game in history by a wide margin, it’s been noted, took four years to announce it had reached 10 million sales.
Last figures for other FromSoftware games include 5 million Sekiro sales, 5.5 million Dark Souls 1 sales and just 2 million Bloodborne sales, though there are some platform restrictions there which Elden Ring did not have. That said, Elden Ring is simply on another level here.20 million copies in a year isn’t quite enough to land it on the best-sellers of all-time list just yet, but it’s approaching the last reported figures of games like the original Modern Warfare 2 (22.7 million sales), Red Dead Redemption (23 million), God of War (23 million) and GTA IV (25 million).
It’s pretty wild, especially since the base difficulty of FromSoftware games always made them somewhat of a niche, even if they were critically acclaimed and beloved by fans. Elden Ring FromSoftware The question on everyone’s mind now is whether Elden Ring is getting DLC or a full-on sequel, but we still have answers to neither, despite this anniversary.
Elden Ring has continued to get balance patches, and received a fairly large PvP update, but it has yet to even announce potential DLC a year after release here, even though nearly all major past FromSoftware games have gotten DLC, most of it released by now.
We know that FromSoftware’s next big project is a new Armored Core game, which will hew closer to the principles of that series, rather than just being sci-fi Elden Ring, or something like that. But it does stand to reason that with the sheer level of success we’re seeing here from Elden Ring, that DLC should be coming, and FromSoft has hinted as much about future content.
And Elden Ring 2 seems like a sure thing, even though that’s no doubt years and years away, and there would be no point announcing it any time soon as a result. Truly a monumental achievement from FromSoftware here, a studio that no doubt has earned a massive megahit by now.

Is Elden Ring the most sold game?
Elden Ring is no longer 2022’s best-selling game in the United States. Activision’s Call of Duty: Modern Warfare II has surpassed Elden Ring to become the “best-seller” overall for 2022 so far, according to the NPD. Modern Warfare II was the best-selling game in the US for both October and November in terms of dollar sales, and it is now the “best-seller” for 2022 year-to-date.
- The NPD didn’t say if this “best-seller” designation pertains to dollar sales, unit sales, or both.
- But the NPD tells GameSpot that Modern Warfare II enjoyed a successful launch beyond what it originally modeled.

This seemingly is not going to happen, with Modern Warfare II already pacing ahead of Elden Ring. The original prediction was for dollar sales, NPD’s Mat Piscatella told GameSpot. “It’s not that Elden Ring hasn’t performed incredibly well (it certainly has), it’s just that Call of Duty: Modern Warfare II has vastly exceeded my initial expectations,” he explained.
If Elden Ring can somehow squeeze ahead of Modern Warfare II in December, it would mark just the third time since 2009 that a Call of Duty franchise game did not end the year as the top seller. That probably won’t happen, though, as Call of Duty games tend to perform well at the holidays.
Elden Ring probably will, too ( it did just win Game of the Year! ), but Call of Duty is unquestionably a bigger, better-known franchise. Elden Ring launched in February, so it had a good amount of lead time to rack up unit sales before Modern Warfare II launched at the end of October. Modern Warfare II had a gigantic launch, bringing in $1 billion in 10 days, faster than any previous Call of Duty game,
Elden Ring has sold more than 17.5 million units worldwide, but NPD’s data only counts sales in the US, making it difficult to assume a sales number for Modern Warfare II. Activision does not share specific unit sales figures in an official capacity.
However, Activision president Rob Kostich said in a news release accompanying the NPD’s report that the company is “grateful to our fans, who have come together in record numbers.” “We know our players always have many entertainment choices in front of them, which our teams recognize and are constantly driving to create exciting, new experiences.
Our first mid-season content refresh is only days away, and there’s so much more to come in 2023,” Kostich said. Season 1 Reloaded launches on December 14, ushering in a range of new content, including the franchise’s first raid, You can see the top 10 best-selling games of 2022 in the US below, as revealed by the NPD.

Elden Ring received a surge in sales at the end of 2022, which has been attributed to its success at The Game Awards. FromSoftware parent company Kadokawa published its third quarter earnings earlier today, with “worldwide blockbuster” Elden Ring driving a 206.4 percent increase in net sales across the gaming division.

Along with its success at The Game Awards, Elden Ring is the most awarded game ever according to the users of Resetera – and that of course includes Eurogamer’s Game of the Year for 2022. The success of Elden Ring also resulted in a revised forecast due to sales and profit of the game exceeding expectations.
There’s no new sales total for the game in the report, but by November last year sales had surpassed 17.5m, FromSoftware’s next release, Armored Core 6 Fires of Rubicon, is scheduled to release this year. Did Elden Ring break a record?
FromSoftware’s open world action-RPG Elden Ring successfully surpasses a decade-old record set by Grand Theft Auto 5. Elden Ring has proven to be a massive success, breaking into the mainstream in a way that FromSoftware’s previous games were unable to do. Elden Ring is the fastest-selling Bandai Namco game of all time, and it is currently the highest-rated new video game release of 2022.
- Now there’s yet another metric with which to prove Elden Ring ‘s dizzying popularity in the gaming world, as it has managed to beat a record set by Grand Theft Auto 5,
- As reported by IGN, who was provided stats by YouTube Gaming, Elden Ring had 3.4 billion views on YouTube in its first two months after launch.
This obliterates the record previously set by Grand Theft Auto 5, which supposedly earned 1.9 billion views in the same window. Considering the success Grand Theft Auto 5 enjoyed at launch and still enjoys to this day, that’s a real testament to just how big of a deal Elden Ring really is. The Elden Ring YouTube Gaming stats extend to the bosses that players encounter throughout the Lands Between. The Elden Ring boss with the most uploads is none other than Margit, the Fell Omen, which is the first major boss that players encounter in the game.
- Coming in second place is Malenia, Blade of Miquella, who is generally considered by Elden Ring players to be the hardest boss in the game.
- Rounding out the top five are Godrick, another early-game boss, and Starscourge Radahn, an optional boss who players fight on a massive battlefield.
- And finally, fifth place goes to the Draconic Tree Sentinel boss.
It’s clear from the YouTube metrics to the reviews to the game’s sales that Elden Ring is a massive success, and it will be interesting to see how Bandai Namco capitalizes on it. An Elden Ring sequel seems like an obvious choice, but there are leaks to suggest that an Elden Ring DLC expansion is going to come first.

Is Elden Ring a top 10 game?
Elden Ring ranks in the top ten for dollar sales in the US after less than five months. via FromSoftware When it launched in February, it almost felt like everyone was playing Elden Ring and well, not much has changed. Turns out it didn’t just feel that way. A lot of people really were and have continued to play Elden Ring as the Souls game has already managed to break into the US’s top ten best-selling games of all time.
- That’s according to NPD’s Mat Piscatella (via GamesRadar ).
- Elden Ring ranks among the top 10 best-selling premium games in the U.S.
- Market all-time,” Piscatella tweeted while breaking down some of NPD’s key numbers for June.
- That’s right, Elden Ring broke into the top ten in June, so may be even higher up the rankings by this point.
Piscatella doesn’t indicate where exactly Elden Ring ranks in the top ten. Most likely tenth for the time being which is still incredibly impressive. There are a few caveats though, and not just the fact that only US sales are included in these numbers.
These particular rankings are done by dollar sales, so the revenue made rather than units shipped. That gives newer titles like Elden Ring an advantage over older games that retailed for less at launch. It’s also worth noting what Piscatella means when he refers to Elden Ring as a premium game. “This just means games with an upfront purchase price and excludes downloadable content/MTX/recurrent post-launch spending,” Piscatella clarified in a follow-up tweet,
That means if Elden Ring ends up getting paid DLC, the money generated from that won’t contribute to this already impressive total. It also means free-to-play games like Fortnite aren’t included, no matter how much players have spent in-game after the fact.
While news that it has already become one of the best-selling games in US history might be somewhat surprising, there’s no hiding the fact Elden Ring has been a massive success. The last we heard, the Souls game had sold more than 12 million copies, easily making it the best-selling FromSoftware game ever.
It also appeared to have Game of the Year sewn up two months into 2022 until PlayStation confirmed God of War Ragnarok will launch in November, NEXT: TheGamer’s Best Features Of The Week: We’re Getting Political

Did Elden Ring sell more than Cyberpunk?
‘Elden Ring’ Is About To Pass 1.5 Years Of ‘Cyberpunk 2077′ Sales In Just Six Months Elden Ring NemPlays Elden Ring continues to be an absolute sales monster. It certainly helps that practically all other major releases have fled from 2022 with an endless amount of delays, but even without that, this is something we have never seen from FromSoftware, and have rarely seen across the entire industry, especially for a new IP.
The latest for Elden Ring reveal that the game has sold 16.6 million copies in its first six months, on its way to attempt to surpass the entire Dark Souls series at 27 million across three games. It also brings up an interesting comparison point to another huge new IP that launched with explosive sales, Cyberpunk 2077.
Elden Ring sold 13.4 million copies in its first month of release. Cyberpunk 2077 sold 13.9 million copies in it first three weeks back in December of 2020. But that’s where things diverged, and now we see what happens when you have good word of mouth, or bad, following your launch.
Now, Elden Ring has sold 16.6 million copies in its first six months, and the last data we have from Cyberpunk 2077 was back in April, where the game had sold 18 million copies in 15 months, representing a massive slowdown, and that the game was moving at just 1.6% the sales pace of its initial launch window.
And my guess is if Cyberpunk 2077 hit 20 million sales between April and now, we would have heard about it. And we haven’t. We know the future of Cyberpunk 2077 right now, which will involve a substantial expansion DLC coming out in 2023. And while all signs would point to Elden Ring also getting its own DLC, which should automatically be the best-selling DLC in FromSoft history, you’d imagine, we have not heard any details about it yet.
- I’ve done calculations about when DLC from past FromSoft games was revealed and released, and according to that timetable, the next month or two might give us a reveal, and we could see some DLC early into 2023, perhaps.
- Elden Ring is far and away the biggest success story of 2022 and probably this entire generation, thus far.
It seems like it will be a shoe-in for GOTY come awards time, even if God of War Ragnarok delivers, but we’ll have to see, I suppose. I am extremely curious to see just how high lifetime sales for Elden Ring can go, and what DLC might do to boost it further.
