Is Elden Ring 30 GB?
The Elden Ring preload period begins – Elden Ring is by far one of the most anticipated FromSoftware titles, and is seeing a staggering amount of hype around it ahead of launch. Xbox One and Xbox Series users are already ecstatic with the preload window going live for it, and those who have preordered the game have already proceeded to download the entire 49 GB of it.
However, it’s important to note here that while it’s certain that the preload for the base game is live, what’s still up for debate is whether it contains any day one patches or not. In a previous presentation of the Taipei game Show 2022, FromSoftware producer Yasuhiro Kitao noted that the game’s development team is already working on a day one patch.
Check out the Elden Ring Steam here. While Kitao did not provide any additional details as to the type of changes they will be looking to introduce with the patch, the arrival of an update is not all that surprising to FromSoft fans. Some of their other titles, especially Dark Souls 3, saw a day one patch hitting the game files the moment the title was officially dropped. GIF Cancel Reply ❮ ❯

Is Elden Ring 150gb?
You’ll need a good chunk of hard drive space, but Elden Ring’s PC requirements are otherwise pretty reasonable. UPDATE: It seems the PC requirements listed for Elden Ring are just a placeholder, as an eagle-eyed fan noticed they’re identical to those of Red Dead Redemption 2, Expect to see accurate numbers announced as we learn more about FromSoftware’s mysterious project.
Original Story Below Elden Ring ‘s Steam page is now live, but those looking to get a peek at the upcoming FromSoftware game’s required specs will be disappointed to find a “TBD.” To find out what kind of rig Elden Ring will require, we head on over to Game Informer, The good news is that the game’s specs seem very reasonable.
Requiring 150 GB of hard drive storage is a lot, but not unheard of for a PC game. Red Dead Online, Microsoft Flight Simulator, Quantum Break, and Black Ops Cold War all require 150 GB or more of dedicated disk space to play, and being a modern MMO certainly qualifies Elden Ring to join their ranks.
- Both the CPU and video card listed as recommended are several generations old and seem to match up well with Steam’s most recent hardware survey,
- Nvidia’s GeForce GTX 1060 is still the most common video card on Steam today, and likely will remain so for some time thanks to ongoing video card shortages.
Although prices have dropped after the recent Bitcoin crackdown in China, supply remains far outstripped by demand for next-gen video cards, which means it’ll be a while before we see developers aim for something like the RTX 3060 as the recommended video card. You can see the full PC specs breakdown for Elden Ring below. Elden Ring Minimum Requirements

Is Elden Ring PC heavy?
A note on PC performance – At the time of publication, Elden Ring has some serious performance issues on PC, It doesn’t matter what hardware you have or what settings you run at, you will encounter stutters in the game right now. From Software has promised a patch soon, but it’s not available yet.
The issue comes down to shader compilation and loading zones. Basically, the game has what some call a just-in-time (JIT) rendering system. The problem right now is that it’s not quite in time, resulting in stutters as the engine loads a new zone or streams in new assets. There’s no way around this problem right now, so don’t look to performance optimizations to fix it.
There’s also an issue with the game that will cause it to bypass your graphics card for certain workloads, resulting in lower performance. From Software has already issued a patch for this issue, so make sure to update your game if you’re still encountering problems. Is Elden Ring really big?
Elden Ring is packed with enough content to keep players coming back for well upwards of 50 hours. It may then surprise players to know that, in the grand scheme of things, the open world isn’t all that big. At 30.5 square miles, or 79 square kilometers, it is bigger than the map of some classic open-world games like Skyrim or Grand Theft Auto 5, but it still falls short of plenty of others.
The advantage Elden Ring has over many of those games is how densely packed with stuff it is. Players can explore a single area of Elden Ring’s map and find a cornucopia of new things even after tens of hours of wandering around. That said, the numbers don’t lie, and there are plenty of games that are much bigger.
Updated May 18, 2022, by Tom Bowen: Rarely does a game live up to the hype quite as effectively as Elden Ring. With near-perfect scores from both players and critics, it seems safe to call the game an overwhelming success. A lot of different elements contributed to this, though most would probably agree that the Lands Between played a pivotal role.
This densely-packed playground is full to the brim with exciting encounters and sneakily-hidden secrets that are just waiting to be discovered by players. However, when compared with some of its peers, the size of Elden Ring’s world is actually relatively small. Of course, as the old adage goes, size isn’t everything, though, for those who enjoy exploring huge open worlds, these other great games may be of some interest.

Is 16 GB of RAM enough for Elden Ring?
Where Elden Ring’s specs surprise is in its minimum memory requirement. Players are recommended to have 16GB of RAM, which is fairly standard. However, 12GB to run the game at its minimum settings is somewhat surprising, though shouldn’t be a problem for Steam users based on the latest Steam hardware survey.

Can I run Elden Ring with 8 GB?
777 23 Dec, 2022 @ 6:52am It’s possible, I’ve played before, but it’s better not to open any applications, otherwise the game will slow down a bit. I wouldn’t recommend it if your system doesn’t meet the requirements. I have 32 GB of ram and a 1600 series GPU and it was audibly taxing my PC in a way that God of War and Horizion Zero Dawn didn’t. You can always buy and try during the refund window. The the game will start and run with only 8GB of RAM so long as the Windows Page File is active, but you should expect sudden crashes and unexpected exits to desktop due to Windows closing the game when it runs out of available memory. The bigger problem is that many PCs with only 8GB of RAM are often paired with a weak CPU and GPU. nah game is massive open world u will have stutters at 8gb.I was at 12 and I upgraded to 16 and its smooth now hack 24 Dec, 2022 @ 12:49pm i play with 8gb and im good Not recommended, 8GB is considered close to minimum specification even on entry level. Even 16 is not enough for gaming on demanding titles or modded games. I mean I have played Uncharted, RDR2, Cod MW2 and BF2042 on 8GB Ram and I didn’t experience much problems Depends on what else you have open (or need to have open) in the background. You plan on using recording/streaming software while gaming? You also have to take the overhead into consideration, you know, for the sheer heft that Windows itself adds. Presumably, you can get Windows to run somewhat leaner if you did found a 3rd party utility to kill all but the most important background tasks and telemetry BS that Windows usually does. If you have a high speed CPU it will probably run fine. Otherwise you will likely see framerate drops.8gb is kinda low for gaming these days. While this game doesn’t use much more than 6GB of physical memory and instead heavily utilized virtual memory (a “page” or “swap”-file on your much slower hard drive) to a point, where it will just crash without one or if it runs out of disk space, 12GB minimum sounds about right, considering some of the background programs you may be running in the background (Steam, driver control panels, Discord, etc) and of course the operating system itself. Surely 16gb is cheap enough on Ebay these days? Just throw some in your system if you’re on a desktop. If you’re using a laptop, that’s still something that can be upgraded, but it’s likely your system would be too weak still. I’d make sure you’re hitting cpu and gpu minimums. Is it possible to play Elden Ring with 8 GB RAM?
Elden Ring (opens in new tab) comes out later tonight on PC, but as it’s the first FromSoftware game to come out on modern hardware, it begs the question of whether or not your PC can even run it. Luckily, I have access to a ton of hardware and I tested it on a bunch of low-to-mid-range graphics cards,
- I also checked out whether or not the weird 12GB RAM requirement was actually a hard check, and it turns out that you can run it just fine on 8GB of RAM.
- Although, if you do run it with this much memory, you better have everything else on your PC closed, because this game will gobble up allocated memory until it hits around 10GB.
The graphics card requirement was a little more accurate, though. The Elden Ring PC requirements say that you’ll need at least an Nvidia GeForce GTX 1060. I didn’t have one of those lying around, but I tried to be sneaky and ran it on a GTX 1050 Ti instead.
Turns out that didn’t work. The game will just up and crash if you don’t have the graphics power to run it. You’ll need a GTX 1060. Luckily, if you do have a supported graphics card, it should be pretty easy to hit 60 fps at 1080p, even if you have to lower settings to 1080p to make that happen. And while I didn’t test it specifically, the GTX 970 should be able to handle the game just fine at 1080p Low Settings, as it has performance roughly on par with the GTX 1060.
Although, I didn’t test that card myself – so take that with a grain of salt. Mostly an educated guess on my part. Refresh 2022-02-24T16:46:53.492Z Started out with a Ryzen 3 3300X, 8GB of RAM, and an Nvidia GeForce GTX 1050 Ti. It crashed. Loaded it up with 12GB of RAM, and it crashed again! Turns out the GTX 1050 Ti just can’t handle the game at all, as it loads fine with the barely-more-powerful GTX 1650.
That GPU will be good for 1080p low settings. If you want to go up to 1080p High, you’re going to need to have at least a GTX 1660 or equivalent – think an Nvidia GeForce GTX 1070 or 980. An AMD Radeon RX 580 should be sufficient, too.2022-02-24T16:48:21.420Z What’s really awesome, though, is that loading Elden Ring up with 8GB of RAM and a GTX 1650 works fine.
You don’t actually need the 12GB of RAM listed on the system requirements – though I do still recommend it.2022-02-24T17:05:37.826Z The GTX 1050 Ti sure was cute though!! (Image credit: Future) Upgrading to the RTX 2060 did the trick. The GTX 1660 Super dropped to like 50-55 fps when going outside, which is not terrible but a game like Elden Ring is all about tight timing, and you don’t want to miss a single frame.
- However, the same problem that the GTX 1660 Super faced, the RTX 2060 faced at 1440p High.
- Runs fine indoors and in dungeons, but outdoors, it drops to around 55 fps.
- Still looks and plays fine, but probably best to just stay at Medium, or drop to 1080p with the RTX 2060.2022-02-24T17:26:10.489Z With the Nvidia GeForce RTX 2070, you can get a solid 60 fps at 1440p with maximum settings.
This makes it the perfect 1440p graphics card for this game, which means the Nvidia GeForce RTX 3060 should stay around this level too – but we’ll have to see about that a bit later.2022-02-24T17:30:59.600Z Ok, the RTX 2070 is absolutely not good enough for 4K medium settings. (Image credit: Future) I decided to do the RTX 3070 next, because I’m really not in the mood to test every single RTX 2000 card just to have to move to the 3000 cards anyways. The RTX 3070 is fine for 4K high settings, you’ll get a pretty solid 60 fps at all times.
- Though it does have the same random frame drops as every other card I’ve tested.
- I’m going to have to jump to AMD cards in a second to see if that problem is fixed there.
- Moving up to Maximum Settings though, the framerate chugs along at the mid-to-high 40s.
- I’d keep the settings around High if you’re on the RTX 3070 (or even the Nvidia GeForce RTX 2080 Ti.) RTX 3080 is probably going to be the answer for 4K Max @ 60 fps.
Time to see! 2022-02-24T18:14:18.783Z With the Nvidia GeForce RTX 3080, it’s obviously good for 60 fps with everything maxed, and is kind of what you’ll need on Team Green to hit that threshold. But I’m still getting those random frame drops, and it’s kind of annoying. (Image credit: Future) I plugged in the AMD Radeon RX 580, and that’s another 1080p low card. It did look to have an average frame rate around 60 fps on Medium, but there were some HEAVY frame drops. Lowering the settings to Low smoothed it out quite a bit.
It’s not too surprising that the 580 can handle the same kind of workload as the GTX 1650. It’s a bit older, but it usually sits around the GTX 1060 in performance. Makes me really wish I had a GTX 1060 lying around. But I left it at home, like the professional hardware tester that I am. I’m going to jump straight to the Radeon RX 5700 XT next.
That’s about the same level of performance as a GeForce RTX 2070, so it should be able to handle 1440p at high settings. Let’s find out.2022-02-24T19:20:40.346Z Ok, so I ran Elden Ring on the AMD Radeon RX 5700 XT, and it kind of runs like an absolute dream.
- The graphics card is easily able to handle 1440p with Maximum settings without ever really dropping below 57 fps.
- A lot of the frame drops are gone – they’re still absolutely there, but it seems to be better on AMD graphics cards.
- Eep in mind that this process isn’t exactly scientific, I’m just playing through a segment of the game over and over again and reporting what I notice while watching framerate and how the game feels.
And, well, the game feels better on an AMD graphics card so far. Going to run the game on the 6800 XT next to see if it’s really the case or if I’m just getting tired.2022-02-24T19:40:21.049Z (Image credit: FromSoftware) To cap things off, I tested the Radeon RX 6800 XT. The graphics card is easily able to handle the game at 4K max settings, but the frame drops have come back. Fairly sure that this is just a problem with the game itself, and is going to need to be patched out eventually.
- When all is said and done, Elden Ring is a pretty decent PC port, and a ton of people should be able to play it across a range of different configurations.
- The game looks fantastic when maxed out at 4K, but that resolution and settings combination is really only available to those lucky enough to have an AMD Radeon RX 6800 XT or Nvidia GeForce RTX 3080.
And all of this testing was done on an AMD Ryzen 3 3300X processor, which is a pretty low-end part. Didn’t really run into any issues where the CPU couldn’t keep up, either. Even during the frame drops that plague this PC port, CPU utilization never spiked above 50%, which means it’s probably not a CPU bottleneck here.
Hopefully FromSoftware can fix the frame drop issue, because if it can, Elden Ring on PC will prove to be an excellent PC port after a while. Just has that one little wrinkle to iron out first. Now, I took off a week to immerse myself in this game, and now it’s time to actually progress in this game, rather than letting a boss kill me over and over again.
(Ok, maybe I’m just bad at the game and the boss was killing me anyways).

Can 4gb run Elden Ring?
Can I Run Elden Ring? – Can my PC run Elden Ring? Despite launching on PlayStation 4 and Xbox One consoles, the Elden Ring minimum system requirements are surprisingly high. You’ll need a CPU that’s at least as powerful as an AMD Ryzen 3 3300X or Intel Core i5-8400, paired with a surprisingly large 12GB of RAM.
In terms of graphics cards, an AMD Radeon RX 580 or Nvidia GeForce GTX 1060 will be enough to get you going. You’ll, of course, need to clear some space on your storage solution of choice, to the tune of 60GB. If you want to boost fps, you’ll need to aim higher, as the Elden Ring recommended system requirements instead require an Intel Core i7-8700K or AMD Ryzen 5 3600X processor and 16GB of RAM.
Meanwhile, an Nvidia GeForce GTX 1070 or AMD Radeon RX Vega 56 will satiate the game’s GPU demands. You’ll undoubtedly need to exceed this if you want to use 4K resolution, HDR, or ray tracing – the latter of which will arrive in a post-launch patch.

Amazing, With Some Caveats – Elden Ring is one of those captivating games that I daydream about when I have free time, wondering what builds I might try upon replay, or places I may have missed my first time through. It’s a wonderfully nostalgic feeling, and I am impressed with Elden Ring’s size and scope. It’s unfortunate that the game launched with annoying frame rate issues, as they can be a deal breaker for people who don’t want the trouble. Were it not for the game’s obnoxious stuttering, Elden Ring would easily score much higher; it’s an otherwise stellar game.
