Once you’ve got that weapon to +3, you’ll need to find a Level 2 Smithing Stone to boost it any further, and so on.

How do you use Smithing Stones?
Elden Ring Smithing Stones: How to Find Every Bell Bearing Elden Ring is, That won’t surprise anyone who’s played through a preview FromSoftware game, but even that won’t prepare you properly for all the “You Died” title screens you’re bound to see. If you’re going to make it through this adventure, you’ll need powerful weapons.
And to get powerful weapons, you’ll need Smithing Stones, Lots of ’em. Smithing stones are what you use to level up your weapons, be they blades, staffs, shields or spears. To upgrade your weapons, you offer these stones (plus some runes) to Master Blacksmith Hewg at Roundtable Hold, Smithing Stones can be found out in the world and dropped from a few enemies.
But to expedite the leveling up process, it’s much easier to just buy them. It’s embarrassing to say, but this is something I only found out I could do about 50 hours into the game. Learn from my mistakes. To get easiest access to Smithing Stones, you’ll need to collect Bell Bearings.
- There are nine such Bearings in the game, and this guide contains the locations of all of them.
- First, the basics.
- There are two places you can buy smithing stones: From Smithing Master Iji, a giant in northwest Liurnia of the Lakes (pictured above), and also the Twin Maiden Husks at the Roundtable Hold.
Iji is simpler, so let’s start with him. Once you (good luck!), you’ll enter the Land Between’s second major area: Liurnia of the Lakes, To find Iji, you need to travel all the way to the northwest region of the lake. How to upgrade weapons in Elden Ring – Excluding the weapon itself, there are two things you need to begin enhancing swords, shields, staves, axes, etc. You’ll need a type of Smithing Stone and a smithing table, both of which can be discovered fairly early on in the game.

- Eep in mind, Special Weapons are typically rewarded for defeating bosses or uncovering secrets.
- The smithing table at the Church of Elleh Not only does upgrading a weapon increase its base damage output, but it also improves scaling.
Weapons scale with certain stats, and the better the scaling, the more a particular stat will impact it. For instance, a weapon that has an E strength scaling level won’t be impacted by the strength stat as much as a weapon with A strength scaling. But, as you upgrade your weapons, this scaling stat will increase.

While we’re on the topic of Limgrave, enemies here can also drop level 1 Smithing Stones. There are a lot of areas around these Tunnels as well where you can farm Smithing Stones. Another great option to upgrade weapons and armor is to utilize Somber Smithing Stones.
- These get your unique equipment up to +9.
- While you’re not able to get up to that +25 mark like you can with normal equipment, you are able to boost the already powerful unique weapons.
- That’s a must when we’re talking some of the mid to late-game bosses.
- You can purchase Sober Smithing Stones in Roundtable Hold, but first you’ll need the Bell Bearings.
You can find the first of these, which get you access to the first two Smithing Stone options for purchase, at Raya Lucaria Crystal Tunnel in Liurnia of the Lakes. While all of this seems super hectic for newcomers to the game, don’t worry! There’s plenty of time to learn the basics.
