Radahn Phase 1 – Unlike most fights, you can summon several NPC companions once the battle against Radahn begins. Also unlike most fights, Radahn can one-shot you with his homing gravity arrows. Keep your target lock on Radahn so you can see the arrows, then dodge once they get near.
The debris doesn’t always stop the arrows from hitting you, so don’t count on them as foolproof cover. Make your way to the golden summoning signs as you go along, activating each when you get to it. You can summon Blaidd, Alexander the pot warrior, Okina, and at least three more. None of them last long, but they’re a good distraction to make approaching Radahn easier.

He hold the first swing for roughly three seconds, then slams his fist down immediately afterward, followed by a few more slashes with a second-long delay between each. Another attack to watch for in this phase is his gravity smash. Radahn plunges his swords into the ground and surrounds them with a purple gravity field.
He then pulls them out with huge pieces of stone attached, slams them down, and creates a massive gravity shockwave. The shockwave is potentially an instant kill attack. Radahn moves fast, but there are some key openings for melee builds to exploit. As with most large bosses, Radahn is vulnerable for a brief time at the end of a combo or major attack-enough for two, maybe three hits, before you need to retreat.
- Some players recommend using the Icerind Hatchet’s Frostbite skill or Hoarfrost Stomp to inflict damage and build Radahn’s Frostbite meter, though it does require good timing-and time you could spend rushing in to attack before retreating.
- Radahn is vulnerable to Frostbite and other status conditions, but especially Scarlet Rot.
Rot Pots and arrows tinged with Scarlet Rot are good options if you want to take advantage of status effects for this fight. These weaknesses remain even in phase two. Magic wielders should focus on spells with short casting times or with more defensive properties, such as Glintblade Phalanx.

You don’t need magic or a powered-up weapon, you just need enough dignity to let one of the most feared warriors in the Lands Between launch himself off the map to an instant death.
Some devious Elden Ring players have discovered that Radahn’s gravity magic has a fatal weakness, and that weakness is water. When you get about halfway through the big guy’s health bar, he propels himself into the sky and zooms back down as a deadly meteor. Usually you need to run like mad to dodge what is almost surely an one-hit death, but if you instead lure Radahn over near the water in his massive boss arena, he will land in it and sink.
To pull this off you need to start by fighting Radahn normally, preferably by summoning all the allies that are available in the fight. That’ll keep Radahn distracted while you throw magic at him or get a few sword swipes in. When he’s close to half health, you can start to lure him towards the water on horseback.
- If you stay slightly outside of his melee range, he’ll have no choice but to chase you, and you can take him all the way to the edge of the ocean and trigger his meteor attack.
- This absurd strategy—found by both Reddit user HomeGrownCrown7 (opens in new tab) and Twitter user izuoku_ (opens in new tab) —trivializes the constant balance passes on the Radahn fight, but to me it still falls in line with a history of weird tactics for Souls bosses.
FromSoftware initially nerfed Radahn’s damage output too much and recently (opens in new tab) made him threatening again. Now you can’t boast about killing Radahn without specifying exactly when you killed Radahn. Surely the git gud-ers won’t like you making a fool of the Starscourge himself, but I think this method is the most in keeping with how surprisingly funny (opens in new tab) Elden Ring is all the time.

What is the best way to defeat Radahn?
Second Phase Strategy – Don’t underestimate Radahn’s speed and strength. He can quickly tear through your defenses with his attacks. FromSoftware / Namco Bandai Games. After half of his health has been depleted, Radahn will leap into the air and out of view. Keep your eyes up toward the sky and look for the bright light, as Radahn will come barrelling down to the Earth like a comet.
If you don’t keep your distance, his dramatic return to the planet will kill you instantly, forcing you to start the fight all over again. Radahn is more powerful as he now uses gravity magic. Along with sending out waves of energy with swings from his sword – which can be jumped over to avoid – he will also use his magic to conjure up massive rocks that act as homing missiles.
When he summons these, they will hover over his shoulder for some time. However, when a bright flash occurs around the rocks, it’s time to find cover. As you’ll likely be fighting toward the center of the arena, there are several mounds of sand scattered across the hill.
These mounds are great for cover, so if you need to make a quick run for escape, ride on Torrent fast down the hill and away from Radahn’s line of sight to avoid the massive rocks. The key to beating Radahn is to stick and move with your attacks and keep your allies in the game. Despite how tough he hits, Radhan can still take a beating once everyone attacks in unison.
You can get stagger him if you manage to land some heavy blows on him quickly enough. Starscourge Radahn Fight Strategy – General Tips
Torrent is available for this fight (unless other players are summoned in for co-op) The summon signs seen are NPC summons for the Festival Mechanic. They can be summoned with one button press and any number can be summoned at once. Upon death, their signs will reappear to summon again, though not necessarily in the same place as first summoned.
With the summons, it is possible (if slow) to complete the fight without attacking Radahn directly.
Radahn will start shooting magic arrows immediately upon entering the arena
These can be blocked with a shield, but will do heavy magic damage. They will kill most players in one hit. The arrows home so accurately that they are usually not possible to dodge without the use of i-frames, such as rolling or mounting/dismounting Torrent. As always, rolling toward the source of a projectile will make it easier to dodge. Debris on the battlefield will block the arrows once, as the arrow will destroy the debris instead of hitting the player. The first two groups of summon signs are behind such debris.
The arrow barrage Radahn fires in the air (“Radahn’s Rain”) will also home in on you. It is easier to dodge on Torrent, but is possible to outrun on foot if you run directly perpendicular to Radahn.
A reliable approach is to raise your shield when you enter the arena and approach the first group of summon signs. Summon all available NPCs, using the debris next to their signs for cover, and advance to the next group with your shield up. Keep an eye on Radahn: at some point he pulls back his bow without the magical energy charges, signaling you to get on your horse and begin strafing to avoid his spear-arrow attacks. Once you get close enough, Radahn will pull out his swords and begin his melee attacks, at which point you can begin the fight. At this point, if you’re on horseback it should be safe to run away a bit and heal the chip damage from his arrow attacks. If the player stays a far enough distance away, he will become unable to perform his arrow wall attack, making the opening sequence of the fight a lot easier. In terms of proximity, avoid going past the first 3 summon signs you see until one of them has had the opportunity to make Radahn switch to his Melee stance. After which you are fine to continue moving forward and collect the missing summon signs.
Almost all of Radahn’s ranged attacks, including his magic arrow and both of his magic rock and sphere projectiles will likely kill in one hit. The magic arrows are best dodged with i-frames or blocked. The magic rocks and magic spheres can be dodged with i-frames or by sprinting perpendicularly to Radahn on Torrent. Radahn is extremely weak to Scarlet Rot. Inflicting it on him once will bring him down to half health in a short time. Inflicting it on him again near the start of the second phase will kill him in a short time. By far the easiest way to win the fight is to hit him with, which will require two successful hits to inflict Scarlet Rot. Suggested weapon: (DEX/ARC)
What damage does Radahn use?
Elden Ring final boss phase one (Radagon of the Golden Order) – While small, Radagon’s repertoire of attacks deal high physical and Holy damage, Your best bet is dodging all of them, so consider two-handing your weapon for increased damage. Fortunately, it’s easy to spot which of his moves will deal Holy damage (most), as opposed to just physical.
- When his foot or hand glow gold, the next attack will have some sort of Holy effect,
- Radagon typically starts the fight with a normal foot stomp that will interrupt you and knock you back.
- There’s a similar version of this move where his foot will have a golden glow, and this one will deal Holy damage in a circle around him wherever it hits.
Dodge as soon as his foot hits the ground for either, Most of the boss’ moves are performed with the hammer, and a large number of them deal Holy damage. The hammer operates on the same idea: if it has a golden glow, it’s about to deal Holy damage, It is incredibly important to remember that some Holy attacks deal damage on impact, while others have a delayed effect that causes Holy lightning to cover the area where the hit landed.
- The easiest way to identify which is which is to keep an eye on the point of impact: if you see glowing golden pillars, there’s another wave coming,
- If you don’t, you’re safe to move into that area.
- Radagon has two primary ranged attacks,
- The first is slow, and it lets him throw a lightning bolt your way,
Dodge as soon as you spot it leaving his hand, not before. The lightning bolt also causes an explosion where it lands, so back away. Occasionally, Radagon won’t throw the lightning bolt at you, but rather land with it in hand, This is the more dangerous variation of the move, because it’ll cause a Holy explosion upon impact, and create crisscrossing lines of Holy lightning on the ground that continue spreading out away from where the bolt was planted.
Do not be tempted to sit and tank that damage because you want to land a few hits, just move away. The second ranged attack is the harder to dodge, because its animation is incredibly quick. That one sees him throw five or so small lightning shards towards you in fan-like shape, If those are fired straight towards you, simply dodge through them towards the boss.
If they’re fired at the ground, however, they’re going to cause a follow-up Holy explosion where they land. Radagon has a tendency to repeat or double up on ranged attacks, so don’t immediately go in for a hit after he performs a move – wait to see if he’s going to repeat it.
- For hammer attacks not enchanted with Holy, dodge late – either into or away from him.
- Just be on the lookout for follow-up melee attacks.
- Radagon is agile and has no problem switching targets mid-way through his attack chains, or with the final hit,
- If you brought a summon, be careful that either of you could become a target mid-combo.
His grab attack is dangerous, as it can end your life in a single hit. The good news is that it’s very easy to spot. Before it happens, Radagon’s left arm will turn gold in the shape of a fang/claw, Move away from the boss as soon as you see it – don’t dodge – just back up quickly.
- If he fails to connect with the grab, he’ll be kneeling for a few seconds, letting you land a few hits.
- When Radagon jumps in the air, he’s about to slam his hammer down and cause a massive Holy AOE explosion in a circle,
- This move is also easy to avoid.
- Simply dodge into him after he slams it down to get behind him.
Later on in the fight, Radagon will teleport in and out of place, Stay away from his teleportation aura, otherwise you’ll take damage and make it easier for him to land the first hit he performs after materialising. The most dangerous move ever in Radagon’s fight is his triple hammer ground slam,
You’ll know it’s coming when he lifts his right hand above his head. Every slam will deal Holy damage in a cone in front of him, and the coverage area gets larger with every one, The first two arrive quickly back-to-back, but the third is delayed. You don’t want any of them to hit you, and especially the third hammer slam.
Simply dodge towards him to try and get behind him, You’re always safe behind him from all three slams, just time each dodge with the slam itself to avoid the Holy damage as you try to make your way towards him. If you’re too far away when he starts this chain, you’ll have to dodge the aftereffect instead.

When the glowing orb appears over Astel’s head, run away to avoid the teleportation explosion. Astel is a huge boss in a huge arena. Just like in other fights of similar scale, always be prepared to close the gap when it retreats to the other side of the room, and don’t hesitate to unlock your camera when the situation calls for it.
The crystal bubbles that make up Astel’s torso and tail are heavily armored, so aim for its legs and head instead. The head is also where you can get off a Critical Attack if you manage to break its Poise. One of the most effective strategies in the fight is to lock onto its head and deal damage with projectiles from a medium distance away.
For sorcerers, Rock Sling is your best bet here; Faith builds will find success with Stone of Gurranq. A highly leveled up bow and arrow can do the trick, too. Melee players can stick behind the boss and deal headshots up close when the coast is clear, but it’s a risky route to victory.
As mentioned, Astel is susceptible to Scarlet Rot. The closest you can get to cheesing the fight is to run up, get off a Rotten Breath cast, and retreat. The Scarlet Rot will eventually do all the work, and you can focus all your energy on dodging its attacks from a distance. Astel’s moveset is deadly whether you’re across the arena or face-to-face.

You’ll find it in a dungeon called Gael Tunnel, where you’ll face a difficult fight with a Magma Wyrm boss to claim the blade.
- It’s worth it: Moonveil scales with intelligence and does magic damage, and has one of the most powerful and versatile L2 moves in the game, letting you choose between light and heavy magical slices that break enemies’ poise and cause magic damage.
- And if you’d like something to pair it with, head to the Deathtouched Catacombs back in Limgrave.
You’ll find the Uchigatana on a dead body there. The Uchi is fantastic when dual-wielded with Moonveil, and assuming you picked up the Glintstone Whetblade at Raya Lucaria, you can add frost affinity to really give Radahn the business. If you’re more of a spellcaster type, Rock Sling will prove to be your most effective tool.
Grab it from an underground chest in the Street of Sages Ruins at the top of the large swamp in Caelid’s center (the stairs are just above the map icon for the ruins). Rock Sling does physical damage and is especially effective at wearing down Radahn’s poise, staggering him and giving you a big damage opportunity.
Radahn’s only notable resistance is to holy damage, so spellcasters can use whatever other spells you’re comfortable with, while faith casters can try lightning or fire incantations. As far as status effects, bleed and frost are both very effective against the legendary general.

Is Starscourge Radahn weak to magic?
Starscourge Radahn tips: How to beat Starscourge Radahn – Brace yourself, this is one hell of a fight. As soon as you spawn into Starscourge Radahn’s arena, you need to immediately sprint forwards to the glowing markers on the ground straight ahead of you. 
Summon in all the AI characters you possibly can as you advance towards Starscourge Radahn in the distance. All while you’re doing this though, Radahn will be firing an elemental arrow straight at you, so either hide behind the debris on the battlefield, or roll straight through the arrow, as strafing or rolling around it is unfortunately impossible. 
Starscourge Radahn might switch out the elemental arrow in favour of a host of regular arrows. When Radahn fires a cluster of arrows up into the air, they’re about to make their way down to towards you in a column, which you’ve got to immediately run around to the side if you don’t want to end up stuck full of them. 
When you or one of your comrades gets close to Starscourge Radahn, he’ll give up firing arrows and press the physical attack. One of the boss’ favourite tactics is to slide around on his comically small horse, circling you while holding his swords ready to strike. 
Ideally, summoning Torrent is best when Radahn starts these physical attacks. If you summon the spectral steed too soon, the boss will shoot you off of it, so it’s best to hold back here and wait. Additionally, we’ve found Starscourge Radahn is particularly weak to magic-based attacks like bolts, so it’s a really good idea to use a staff on the back of Torrent to cast ranged attacks. 
In this electric-based phase, Starscourge Radahn can also cause a massive area-of-effect attack in front of him, by slamming the blades down to the ground in a similar fashion. Another attack has the boss summoning orbs that’ll hone in on you, and the only advice we can really give here is to back the hell away from the boss very quickly, because there’s no way of dodging the blast if you’re too close, but it is relatively easy to roll around the orbs flying at you in a cluster. 
At roughly half health or just lower, Radahn pulls out a really mean move. The boss will disappear into the sky, and stay there for roughly four second, before he comes screaming back down to the ground in the form of a blazing comet. Keep your eye on the sky when Radahn’s in the air, and position yourself on the opposite side of the hill to where the comet is coming from, as you can shield from the blast if you’ve got the hilltop between the two of you.
- If you’re on Torrent though, simply sprinting with the horse in a diagonal line adjacent to the hilltop stands you a good chance of avoiding the attack.
- After the comet, Starscourge Radahn gets even tougher.
- He now has lightning orbs floating around him that can strike you if you get too close, and he can pull of a shockwave-based attack with his magic-infused swords.
In this phase, Torrent is paramount, because you can keep circling the boss just out of reach of his physical attacks, while also double-jumping over the shockwaves just as they’re about to hit you. 
Finally, one mean attack to look out for in this phase is when Radahn jumps into the air and hangs their for a few seconds. He’s about to come at you in a force of pure lightning, so if you’re not on Torrent now, mount your spectral steed and back off, as when Radahn’s finished his swooping motion down to you, he finishes the attack by dropping to the ground and letting off a huge area-based attack.
It’s really important to note you can repeatedly summon characters back in this fight against Starscourge Radahn. If an AI character bites the dust (and trust us, they’re going to do that a lot), all you need to do is approach their summon sign again to get them back in the fight straight away. We’d recommend taking stock of the situation, and if you find yourself down a few pals, summon your allies back in during Radahn’s second phase, after the comet has struck.

2. Use fire damage and Blackflame – Radagon is surprisingly weak to fire damage, and any flame-based attacks, skills, and spells can very quickly dispatch him. Popular weapons like Blasphemous Blade and the Sword of Night and Flame work great for this, as do fire Incantations and Sorceries.
Use any of these to deal huge chunks of damage to Radagon. Black Flame skills and spells work particularly well, dealing high damage upfront before dealing even more damage over time. The Black Flame incantation lets you apply this from range, while non-elemental melee weapon users can use Black Flame Blade to temporarily apply Black Flame effects to their weapon.
Black Flame Blade requires only 17 Faith, so a minor respec may be worthwhile if you’re struggling.
