George R.R. Martin reveals that the Elden Ring was shattered long ago, which sheds light on just how dire the struggles are in the Lands Between. The Lands Between in Elden Ring is much older than previously speculated, as confirmed by author George R.R. Martin. FromSoftware collaborated with Martin to bring the world of Elden Ring to life, which entailed writing the history of the Lands Between and its inhabitants.
- The little description and lore found in-game aren’t clear on just how long ago the most significant events took place.
- However, Martin detailed his part of the collaboration and gave some insight into how long ago the titular Elden Ring was shattered.
- In an appearance on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert, Martin stated that FromSoftware approached him years ago to do world-building for Elden Ring,
The developer made it clear that the game would take place in the universe’s present, while the work Martin would do takes place 5,000 years beforehand. This detail helps put into perspective the scale of Elden Ring ‘s timeline and lore, as well as the severity of the events that sent the Lands Between into chaos.

Does Elden Ring take place in medieval times?
Home Gaming News Elden Ring Player Makes Character That Looks Like Maori Warrior
An Elden Ring fan uses the game’s character creator along with various weapon and armor sets in order to create a Maori warrior player character. Elden Ring ‘s story takes place in its own fantasy world of The Lands Between, but this land is heavily inspired by real-world European medieval history in the design of its characters, weapons, architecture, and social hierarchies. However, it is implied through certain Elden Ring characters and item descriptions that the world of Elden Ring extends far beyond The Lands Between and that these different lands contain unique kingdoms which are based on different real-world cultures and mythologies in the same way that The Lands Between is based heavily on those of Norse and Celtic countries.
One of the more unique starting classes in Elden Ring is the Samurai, who is described as a capable fighter from the distant Land of Reeds. Based on this staring class’s name and item designs, it is clear that the Land of Reeds is an area in Elden Ring ‘s world that is inspired by a medieval-era Japan.
This Land of Reeds is never seen in-game or described fully to the player, although it is possible to come across a few more Samurai characters over the course of Elden Ring ‘s story. Implying that there are other lands and kingdoms in the game’s world which the player will never see does help to make Elden Ring’s Lands Between feel much more established, and since one of these outside kingdoms is already known to be based on a distinct real-world culture, some players have been imagining what an Elden Ring version of other cultures could look like.
One such player is a Reddit user named FilthyScavenger, who has shared photos of their Maori warrior character. The Reddit user has used various armor sets along with the games adjustable face tattoo feature to create an approximation of traditional Maori garments with a fantasy Elden Ring twist. A lot of the armor used for this character are connected to another vaguely described area in Elden Ring ‘s world named the Badlands, which is where one of the games main bosses, Hoarah Loux, comes from.
In fact, the Badlands is also rumored to be the subject of Elden Ring ‘s future DLC, The Maori are the indigenous Polynesian settlers of New Zealand, and they were already established on the island during the medieval period that Elden Ring takes its inspiration from.
This means that if Elden Ring ‘s world does mirror real-world medieval history and cultures then it is possible that a nation of people similar to the Reddit user’s custom character could exist somewhere in Elden Ring ‘s world similar to that of the Land of Reeds. Looking at FilthyScavenger’s previous Reddit posts reveals many more creative Elden Ring character builds based around other real-world groups, as well as many more pop-culture characters recreated in an Elden Ring style.
Recreating recognizable fictional characters in game is very popular among Elden Ring players, Elden Ring is available now for PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S. MORE: Elden Ring: Everything We Know About Miquella

Does Elden Ring take place after Dark Souls?
FromSoftware has gripped players worldwide with its dark fantasy games, even years after each of their titles’ release. Hidetaka Miyazaki is the creative mind behind these morose masterpieces. Now, he has collaborated with George R.R. Martin to bring the gaming world a new and highly anticipated experience: Elden Ring,
- Fans can’t help but think of it as another Dark Souls game.
- Although Elden Ring does take inspiration from the infamously difficult Dark Souls series, it takes place in a completely different universe and features a plethora of features foreign to FromSoftware’s classic franchise.
- That’s not to say the games are more different than similar, though.
Updated June 8, 2022 by Erik Petrovich : The Dark Souls series was FromSoftware’s crowning achievement, having been greeted with major success and acclaim over the years. The team also released Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice after Dark Souls 3, which was also received extremely well, and their work over the years has led them to this point: Elden Ring, the culmination of everything FromSoftware has ever produced (well, except perhaps Armored Core).

Is Elden Ring canon?
Elden Ring’s Canon Ending Explained offers players the chance to experience one of several possible endings based upon their actions throughout the course of their journeys across the Lands Between, but of all of the endings, one of them is most likely to be canon.
- Most of Elden Ring ‘s endings require the player to complete lengthy questlines, some of which span the length of the game and take the player to areas they may not otherwise come across.
- Most of the endings are also tied to specific NPCs and usually result in furthering their goals or agendas for The Lands Between, such as,
However, given the length of the game and the size of the map, many of these questlines can be easily missed or lost track of, so players will have to be vigilant to make sure all of the endings are available. It’s also important to note that the Lord of Frenzied Flame ending will lock players out of the other endings unless the “condition” is cured with the use of a special item obtained from another NPC questline originating in Caelid.
- The remaining endings can all be obtained together, with the player given a final decision as to which ending they would like after beating the final boss, although some of,
- It is important to note that FromSoftware’s typical storytelling style often means that its games often don’t have a true “canon” ending, as a narrative facet of titles such as Bloodborne and Dark Souls revolves around the idea of cycles repeating over the course of vast amounts of time, essentially letting all endings be considered “canon” as the player’s hero is just one of many.
Elden Ring holds some narrative similarities in the respect that the player is one of many Tarnished questing across The Lands Between, although some of its endings would indicate such a radical shift in the Lands Between that it may not be the case for Elden Ring.

What is Elden Ring inspired by?
Elden Ring is one of FromSoftware’s most successful titles to date (image via FromSoftware) FromSoftware CEO Hidetaka Miyazaki has confessed that his favourite Elden Ring bosses are Starscourge Radahn, Godrick the Grafted and Rykard the Blasphemous. The game was heavily inspired by open-world bestsellers such as Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild and The Witcher 3.
- FromSoftware CEO Hidetaka Miyazaki sat down with Xbox Japan to talk about Elden Ring, the company’s most successful game so far.
- He talks about the thought process behind several gameplay mechanics that set Elden Ring apart from its predecessors, his favourite bosses, some of the spooky in-game enemies and a lot more.
He starts by talking about Ashes of War, a spiritual successor to Dark Souls 3’s Weapon Arts, and how they opened up new weapon customization options for players. Spirit Ashes, optional summons that helps players through certain sections of the game, add “individuality” to the overall experience, according to Miyazaki.
He even apologizes for the Fingercreeper enemies, which the interviewer said haunted him to date. Miyazaki also talks about his favourite in-game boss, Starscourge Radahn. It is undoubtedly one of the more unique boss fights in FromSoftware games, although it has been chided for its low difficulty. Radahn’s comically small horse, it turns out, has a name (Leonard), according to data miner Zullie the Witch,
Godrick the Grafted and Rykard the Blasphemous come in second and third on Miyazaki’s list. Elden Ring had drawn inspiration from many iconic open-world games, such as The Witcher 3, Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, and The Elder Scrolls series. While there is no explicit mention of any Elden Ring DLC, Miyazaki states that FromSoftware will “continue making games as usual”. How many rings does Lord Elden have?
Elden Ring has a handful of mandatory boss fights in a sea of optional ones. While it is a very good idea to do as many optional fights as possible to gain runes to level up, it is also good to know which fights are absolutely unskippable to complete the story of Elden Ring,
Being mandatory does not make these fights easy; in fact, they make up some of the hardest battles to win in the game. While there are over one hundred Elden Ring bosses, only 12 of them are mandatory. If a player stuck to only these bosses, they would miss out on a lot of the game such as the entirety of the Weeping Peninsula, Caelid, Mt.
Gelmir, and the Consecrated Snowfield. Additionally, they would miss out on nearly all side quests, which will give them less room in what ending they get.

Valinor – In Valinor, Gandalf was called Olórin, He was one of the Maiar of Valinor, specifically, one of the people of the Vala Manwë ; he was said to be the wisest of the Maiar. He was closely associated with two other Valar: Irmo, in whose gardens he lived, and Nienna, the patron of mercy, who gave him tutelage.
- When the Valar decided to send the order of the Wizards (Istari) across the Great Sea to Middle-earth to counsel and assist all those who opposed Sauron, Olórin was proposed by Manwë.
- Olórin initially begged to be excused, declaring he was too weak and that he feared Sauron, but Manwë replied that that was all the more reason for him to go.
As one of the Maiar, Gandalf was not a mortal Man but an angelic being who had taken human form. As one of those spirits, Olórin was in service to the Creator ( Eru Ilúvatar ) and the Creator’s ‘ Secret Fire ‘. Along with the other Maiar who entered into Middle-earth as the five Wizards, he took on the specific form of an old man as a sign of his humility.

What is in the middle of Elden Ring?
Elden Ring Map: DLC and Fog – In roughly the center of the map— north of Limgrave, South of Leyndell, and East of Liurnia is a cloud of fog. It plays no role in giving the world shape, instead just acting as filler for this area of the map. That’s not really the game’s style, though, and on its own, it seems like it could be hiding something.
- Furthermore, Redditor Dvoraxx recently pointed out that this cloud is the midway point for all the Divine Towers in Elden Ring,
- That could seemingly suggest something is meant to be there.
- Those who have modified the game to look at this area found a square shape in the water, but nothing of real content.
It’s suspicious, as it could mean something was intended to be there.
