Where to find Patches in Elden Ring – Patches can be found in Murkwater Cave, a dungeon north of the Agheel Lake. Take the river up, and after the invasion from Bloody Finger Nerijus, enter the nearby cave. Make sure you have a torch before entering if you don’t have one already. Murkwater Cave itself is a very short dungeon. You’ll find bells which you can walk into which alert nearby enemies, but provided you aren’t surrounded, shouldn’t be too taxing to take down. When ready, head down the right path from the central room to find a fog wall. Inside is a treasure chest. Open the chest and Patches will appear in a ‘boss’ fight.

Why can’t i do patches quest?
Reunite at Volcano Manor – It’s not easy to get to, but make your way inside Volcano Manor and start the Tanith questline by speaking to Tanith and agreeing to become one of her assassins. Patches will be chilling in the entryway, once again offering to sell you some new items.
You can also ask to hear more about him personally if you want. He’ll stay put until you complete the first assassination request for Tanith. Once done, go back and talk to Patches again, and he will give you a letter for an assassination he wants done. While he certainly doesn’t deserve any favors from you at this point, indulge him and carry out his request to kill Great Horned Tragoth.
Once you do, talk to him again and inform him the deed is done, for which he will reward you with the Magma Whip Candlestick weapon. To move Patches’ quest forward, you next need to fully complete the Tanith quest started earlier by doing all the assassinations and then beating the boss Praetor Rykard.

What happens if I forgive patches?
Quest – The Patches quest is an odd one, as there are various points where it can begin and end. However, if you want to view the entire quest line, follow the steps below. Recruiting Patches and Finding Rosaria’s Fingers
Step 1 – Buy the Tower Key before visiting the Cathedral of the Deep, The Shrine Handmaid sells it for 20,000 souls, Alternate Step 1 – This entire questline can be avoided altogether. If you never buy the Tower Key, and never trigger his trap in the tower, Patches will still appear in Firelink Shrine later in the game, usually after killing the Abyss Watchers, Step 2 – Save Siegward of Catarina from the demon in the Undead Settlement, You first bump into him on an elevator just before the Road of Sacrifices, After speaking with him ride the elevator a few times and he will be gone, but you can still hear his voice. Now ride the elevator up to the very top, where the giant is. As it’s going up, there is a wooden platform you can jump on. Do so and you will find Siegward. Speak with him, then rush in and kill the demon. Although he seems angry with you at first, he will be thankful after. Step 3 – Once you get to the Cathedral of the Deep, open up the main doors to the cathedral. This happens near the end of the area, just before the boss. Also ensure to raise both large walls from out of the water. Once you’ve raised both, and opened the door, leave the area. Now return, and near the large blue doors will be Patches, dressed up as Siegward. Walk forward onto the platform to trigger a cutscene, and a fight with a giant. Step 4 – After killing the giant, or dying, warp to another location, then come back to the Cathedral of the Deep, Use the rafters in the top of the church to get across to the other side, where the Rosaria’s Fingers Covenant is. You will find Patches here, who says he is sorry about earlier. Step 5 – After killing the Deacons of the Deep, return to Firelink Shrine, Use the Tower Key to open the tower, then follow this path until you reach an elevator. Don’t ride it, and instead turn around to see Patches, who has locked you inside. Talk with him a few times, then either warp out, or find an alternate way (you can jump down from the room where Patches trapped you, although it’s difficult and requires a lot of health). Step 6 – After getting out of his trap, you will find him in the upper levels of Firelink Shrine. Speak to him again and forgive him. He will now become a merchant. This is the end of his quest, however, one more step can occur if you’ve saved Greirat of the Undead Settlement, Step 7 – After reaching Irithyll of the Boreal Valley, Greirat will ask to go on another run to find more items. Agree to this, then speak to Patches after Greirat has left the Shrine. Patches will no longer sell you items unless you tell him where Greirat went. If you tell him, Patches will kill Greirat, then return and be a merchant again. If you don’t tell him, he will refuse to sell you items until after Greirat dies of other reasons, or returns to Firelink Shrine. Alternate Step 7 – If you have not purchased the Catarina set from Patches, he will be friendly when discussing Greirat, and say he owes him. When you send Greirat off, you can tell Patches where he went, and Patches will save him. In the event that you’ve bought the armour and still want to save Greirat, don’t give his location to Patches and make sure you’ve returned the armour to Siegward and rescued him from the well in Cathedral of the Deep. If those conditions are met, Siegward will save Greirat instead. Patches will resume selling items as normal upon Greirat’s return (or death)
