The Bestial Sanctum Location – Gurranq can be found in the Bestial Sanctum in northeastern Dragonbarrow, a dangerous area that’s difficult to reach early on in the game. Luckily, Elden Ring offers a convenient shortcut in the form of a waygate you can use to directly reach the Bestial Sanctum without having to pass through Caelid and Dragonbarrow.
- However, there are a couple of things you should do before you teleport there.
- Your first order of business is to travel to Summonwater Village in northeastern Limgrave.
- From the Saintbridge Site of Grace, take the road east, and you’ll reach the village in no time.
- Once you’re about halfway there, you’ll stumble across an NPC near the road who introduces himself as D, Hunter of the Dead.
D warns you to stay away from the village because it is infested by the undead and there’s even a Tibia Mariner skulking about there. As it happens, the Tibia Mariner drops a Deathroot, the very same item Gurranq is seeking, so proceed to the village and slay the monster.
Once you’ve collected the Deathroot, return to D, who will be either just outside the village or at Roundtable Hold, depending on whether you used the nearby Site of Grace after the fight. Upon seeing the item, D will tell you a bit about Gurranq, Beast Clergyman and will point you in the direction of a waygate located behind the Third Church of Marika,
Activating the waygate will take you directly to the Bestial Sanctum where you can meet Gurranq. Give Gurranq the Deathroot you’ve collected from the Tibia Mariner and he will reward you with the Clawmark Seal, one of the best Sacred Seals in Elden Ring,

Where does Beast Clergyman go?
Beast Clergyman is a Boss in Elden Ring, He is the boss form of Gurranq Beast Clergyman, This Elden Ring Beast Clergyman Guide features boss locations, tips, strategies and videos on how to defeat the Beast Clergyman easily, as well as boss stats and lore for the Beast Clergyman.
- The Beast Clergyman is found in Crumbling Farum Azula and is greatly implied to be Gurranq, as he recognises you and changes his dialogue if you have given Gurranq all 9 Deathroot,
- Despite this, defeating this boss does not result in Gurranq’s death (and has no effect on your progress with his quest) and vice-versa.
A possible explanation for this is that Crumbling Farum Azula exists outside of time. This is NOT an optional boss as players MUST defeat it to reach an endgame area in Elden Ring. Although the Beast Clergyman is quite large and may seem sluggish at first glance, he is far from it and you should be mindful of his high mobility and quick attacks.
- After taking him down to 50-55% HP, a cutscene plays and you’ll be faced off against Maliketh, the Black Blade,
- There are several Items and strategies for the fight against Maliketh that do not apply to the Beast Clergyman’s fight, so make sure to be prepared for him as well.
- Bosses are unique and challenging Enemies that can be encountered all over the Lands Between.
Legend bosses drop their own unique Remembrance capable of being transformed into powerful Weapons, Spells, Ashes of War, and Talismans for the player. The Beast Clergyman guards Destined Death, to prevent any from stealing it again. He attacks with his dagger, moving quite swiftly for his size.

Elden Ring Gurranq, Beast Clergyman Notes & Trivia –
Long ago, Gurranq was a beast of such terrifying ferocity that his former name meant “Death of the Demigods.” At night, Gurranq can be found to the right side of the sanctum, howling at the sky. Talking to him when he does this does not grant new dialogue. A total of nine Deathroot can be given to him to finish his questline.
Once all nine Deathroot have been given to him, he will tell the player that, despite their hard work, his hunger is still not satiated and that he will go on hunt them down alone. He will then vanish, giving the player an Ancient Dragon Smithing Stone, Alternatively, once you have given him the eighth Deathroot, you can kill him instead for the Ancient Dragon Smithing Stone, allowing you to skip the ninth Deathroot.
Why does Gurranq become hostile?
Black Knife Catacombs – Another Deathroot can be found inside a chest in the Black Knife Catacombs. You can find the catacombs northwest of the Converted Fringe Tower at the end of a ravine. You can use the platforms embedded into the side of the cliffs to make your way down there,
- Alternatively, you can start at the Ruined Labyrinth Site of Grace and take the road northeast.
- You’ll find the chest in the boss room guarded by a Cemetery Shade,
- After delivering four Deathroots, Gurranq will become hostile and will attack you on your next visit to the Bestial Sanctum.
- Fight back and he’ll eventually calm down once you’ve taken a good chunk of his HP.
Make sure you don’t kill him in the process. Once he backs down, reset the area and he’ll become friendly again, allowing you to continue the questline.

After defeating the Elden Beast, rest at the nearby Site of Grace. Finally, you can interact with the Fractured Marika statue and select your ending. What can you do with Gurranq?
Elden Ring: How to Complete Gurranq, the Beast Clergyman’s Quest When players go off the beaten path and explore the world of, they’ll sometimes find friendly NPCs who will offer quests for the player to complete in exchange for enticing rewards. One of the more mysterious and daunting tasks players can take up is assisting a large, hooded creature known as Gurranq, the Beast Clergyman, who wishes to atone for his sins involving the undead that are rising up across,
To start this quest, players must make their way to the ruins of Summonwater Village in, There, they will find an optional boss called Tibia Mariner, a spirit that rides in a boat across the shallow waters of the flooded town. While not a particularly hard boss, the Tibia Mariner can teleport around the area and summon skeleton warriors to assist in fighting players.
The best strategy for fighting this boss is via horseback by summoning Torrent and engaging in hit-and-run attacks when possible. Defeating this Mariner will reward players with a Deathroot, a key item to completing Gurranq’s quest and reaping its highly useful rewards. After fighting the Mariner, players should return to Summonwater a while later, where an NPC known as D, Hunter of the Dead will appear and direct players to speak with Gurranq in the Bestial Sanctum in the far east of Caelid. This location can be easily reached by traveling through a Sending Gate near the Third Church of Marika.
Coincidently, this will also enable players to reach a lucrative, early-game, Once players talk to Gurranq, they can give him the Deathroot in exchange for the Clawmark Seal. He’ll then direct players to gather more Deathroots for him, providing them an item known as the Beast Eye that will notify them if they enter a location where Deathroot is present.
There are a total of nine Deathroots found throughout The Lands Between. Players should be aware that after trading in the fourth Deathroot, the next time Gurranq is visited, he’ll go crazy and attack. Fight him until he comes to his senses and stops, saying it won’t happen again.
Rest at the site of grace to talk to him again. The easiest Deathroots to gather are from the four Tibia Mariner bosses, including the one already beaten in Summonwater. The second Tibia Mariner can be found south of the Artist’s Shack in Liurnia of the Lakes, the third in the Wyndham Ruins in the Altus Plateau, and the fourth on a cliff overlooking Castle Sol in the Mountaintop of the Giants.
Players should be advised that the latter two bosses will summon large skeletons of giants to attack, making their fights more difficult. The remaining five Deathroots are located in underground, optional dungeons. One can be found in the Deathtouched Catacombs in Limgrave, guarded by a Black Knife Assassin. However, this enemy has a reduced health bar, making the fight easier than it would normally be.
Another Deathroot is located in the Black Knife Catacombs in northeastern Liurnia. Fighting the Black Knife here isn’t necessary to attain the Deathroot. Instead, players must fight the Cemetery Shade. The next Deathroot can be found by exploring the Gelmir Hero’s Grave on Mt. Gelmir, near the Primeval Sorcerer Azur site of grace.
This dungeon can be difficult to navigate due to environmental hazards such as the Chariot traps and pits of lava that players must avoid. The boss at the end is known as the Red Wolf of the Champion, which looks and fights almost exactly like the Red Wolf of Radagon at the Academy of Raya Lucaria. The final Deathroot can be found within the, a secret area in which players must first collect the hidden medallions to access. Once this is done, players can drop down from where a broken piece of railing is in the center of the dungeon, onto an invisible platform.
Players can drop rainbow stones to ensure they don’t walk off of the edge. In this dungeon’s boss area, players must face the Stray Mimic Tear, which forces players to fight an exact copy of themselves and everything they’re equipped with. If players enter the area with all weapons and armor removed, the Mimic will also appear with nothing and will be unable to hurt players while they reequip their weapon and fight a defenseless foe.
Once players turn in all nine Deathroots, Gurranq will depart, albeit unsatisfied that his sins haven’t been absolved. For each Deathroot given, the player will receive the following useful rewards in a fixed order: the Clawmark Seal, Bestial Sling, Bestial Vitality, Ash of War: Beast’s Roar, Beast Claw, Stone of Gurranq, Beastclaw Greathammer, Gurranq’s Beast Claw, and an Ancient Dragon,

How do I get to haligtree?
Chapter 4: The Liturgical Town – Hoist the secret medallion at the Grand Lift of Rold to reach the Consecrated Snowfield. Image: FromSoftware/Bandai Namco via Polygon The next step is a bit of a puzzle, if only because of Elden Ring ‘s occasionally confusing interface quirks. The now-complete medallion’s description informs you that you have to use it at the Grand Lift of Rold,
- But didn’t you already use the Rold elevator to reach the Mountaintop of the Giants in the first place? How do you actually use the Haligtree Secret Medallion? The solution is deceptively simple.
- Return to the Grand Lift of Rold and stand where the prompt to use the Rold Medallion appears.
- Then, press left or right on your controller’s d-pad to show the option to use the Secret Medallion instead.
The lift will head down instead of up, and you’ll find yourself in the Hidden Path to the Haligtree dungeon. The dungeon is a bit of a pain, but you don’t actually have to finish it right now. Simply head up the stairs, past the giant Land Octopus and the Vulgar Militia enemies, and turn right to reach the dungeon’s site of grace. Head for the Inner Consecrated Snowfield site of grace and the Consecrated Snowfield map fragment. Image: FromSoftware/Bandai Namco via Polygon Open your map and make a beeline for the Map Stele, You should find the Consecrated Snowfield and Inner Consecrated Snowfield sites of grace on the way. Try not to get squashed by the giant Spectral Dragonkin Soldiers that will spawn and harass you.
Ordina, Liturgical Town. Image: FromSoftware/Bandai Namco via Polygon From the Stele, keep heading north until you reach the Ordina, Liturgical Town site of grace, just outside the entrance to said town. Next up, a quick detour to get some gear that will help you here.
If you don’t already have the Sentry Torch in your inventory, go buy it from the merchant north of Leyndell, just inside the city’s outer wall, near the Outer Wall Battleground Site of Grace, Next, if you haven’t done so already, solve the Mirage Rise puzzle on the western edge of the Altus Plateau forest to earn the Unseen Form spell.
Do whatever you have to do to be able to cast this — re-spec to put points into intelligence, or use talismans or head gear to get the stat up as high as needed. It’s essential to completing Ordina without tearing your hair out. Lastly, back at Ordina, explore the town’s outer edge until you find the Black Knife Armor under an archway on the north side.
Wearing it reduces the sound you make. If you followed our Volcano Manor guide, you should also have the Crepus’s Vial talisman, which accomplishes the same thing. Make your way to the evergaol teleporter on the town’s north side. The nearby hint book will tell you to “light the four figures” inside, though as you’ll find out, that’s easier said than done.
Inside the evergaol version of the town, you’ll be assaulted by deadly-accurate magical archers, plus invisible, nigh-unkillable Black Knife Assassins, Luckily, you have one advantage on your side: The Sentry Torch you may or may not have just purchased will reveal the assassins to you, so make sure to have it equipped in your off-hand.
Keep the Sentry Torch equipped in your off-hand if you want to avoid being ambushed by an invisible assassin. This torch reveals these foes even when you two-hand your main weapon. Engage with the enemies as little as possible ; they’re comically overpowered no matter your level. This is meant to be a stealth mission. If you die inside the evergaol, you can pick up your runes at the same spot in the overworld, without risking being killed again. You can explore the overworld version of the town as much as you want to familiarize yourself with the layout before venturing into the evergaol. Once you light a fire, you don’t have to light it again, even if you’re killed and have to start the evergaol over.
Ladder to the first flame. Image: FromSoftware/Bandai Namco via Polygon When you enter the evergaol, turn immediately west and jump over the short wall to the ground below. An assassin patrols the nearby street, so confirm it isn’t in your path, and then continue around the western edge of the town until you reach a ladder.
Climb it to light the first fire. Climb back down and continue to the south, skirting around the edge of town. You’ll reach the point where the Site of Grace is in the overworld. The next statue is up the stairs from here, but there’s an invisible assassin guarding it. Unfortunately, we haven’t found a way to sneak by this guy, so you’ll have to fight him.
Treat him like a boss and you’ll have him dispatched in no time. Light the second candle. Watch for this ladder to reach the third statue. Image: FromSoftware/Bandai Namco via Polygon From there, return to the main stairs and creep along the railing, past multiple stacks of barrels against the side of a building. Continue to skirt the building around several corners and you’ll reach another ladder. Climb it for the third statue.
Fourth flame location. Image: FromSoftware/Bandai Namco via Polygon You can now see the path that will lead you north across the rooftops to the fourth flame. This is where you should cast Unseen Form, or else the archers to the north will harry you the whole way.
- With the semi-invisibility spell and one or another sound-dampening effect active, you should be able to get most of the way there before they notice you, and you can bum rush the nearest one without taking a hit.
- Then climb the ladder and you’re home free.
- After lighting the fourth candle, you’ll be returned to the overworld.
The impassable seal at the top of the stairway on the town’s north side has been opened, and beyond it is the teleporter that will take you, at last, to Miquella’s Haligtree. And if you thought all that was a pain, just wait until you get a load of the Envoys in the branches.
