    Introduction

    Overview:

Well now, aren't you lucky! You've just rolled the rarest of the Dragon Caller Godfest Exclusive goddesses! While more than capable of carrying new players through intiial dungeons, she shines most brightly when tackling Descends. Powerful and versatile, Kaede is valuable to both newbies and veterans, whether leading a farmable team or a team full of REM monsters. Read on to find out how to play her at her best!

    Why Kaede?

So...why run Kaede? Why not? Even if you already have a favorite team, even a hypermaxed team, she's absolutely worth trying out, and here's why:

    HP: 4130
    ATK: 1840
    RCV: 281
Active Skill:Spawn 3 Wood & Heart orbs from non Wood & Heart orbs. Reduces cooldown of other skills by 1 turn.
Leader Skill: All ATT ATKx3.5 when reaching 2 Wood combos. ATKx0.5 for each additional combo up to ATKx4 when reaching 3 combos. ATK x2.5 and reduce damage by 50% after matching Heal orbs in a cross formation.

Kaede's recent Ult makes her one of the most OP wood cards in the game, if not one of the most OP cards, period. With the right team, I would argue there's nothing she couldn't take on, even Arena. I have yet to sit down and actually do the math to back that claim, but with an on-demand, non-CD-based 75% damage shield that can now absorb pre-emptive hits, and a possible x216 damage for 3-TPA subs, I have an instinctual feeling she's up for the task.

    Pros and Cons

    Utterly awesome leader skill
    Versatile, multi-purpose active
Easy to acquire wood and off-color subs make for easily farmable teams!
Wood ATT means lots of Balanced subs, which means a stable team for beginners
Full Attacker team allows for a fast-paced, rushdown playstyle; no stalling!
Can survive huge hits with her 75% shield that
    EATS PRE-EMPTIVES
    Access to Echidna!
Access to a Heartbreaker that comes with two different sub-ATT Uevos for different team styles.
Allows for an alternating playstyle between a tanky damage-absorbing strategy and a high-damage-dealing strategy in one leader! Oh wait, nevermind, she does both now that her shield gives a damage multiplier.

    Cons

Low RCV means you need to bring high-RCV subs to make up the difference if you aren't confident you can deal enough damage to take out enemies. Oh wait, nevermind.
    REM has the best subs
Requires Orb Changers to perform at her best more than most other leaders

    Leader Section

While Kaede's Leader Skill allows her to pair with a number of leaders (even some off-color), I will only be covering the most relevant.

    Recommended

Green Earth Wind Dragon Caller, Kaede

    HP: 4130
    ATK: 1840
    RCV: 281
Active Skill: Spawn 3 Wood & Heart orbs from non Wood & Heart orbs. Reduces cooldown of other skills by 1 turn.
Leader Skill: All ATT ATKx3.5 when reaching 2 Wood combos. ATKx0.5 for each additional combo up to ATKx4 when reaching 3 combos. ATK x2 and reduce damage by 50% after matching Heal orbs in a cross formation.

Kaede's new ult is absurdly powerful, and it's about time we got a top-
tier wood leader. She's set the bar pretty damn high. You should be pairing with another Ult Kaede if you have the option.

Fall Wind Jasper Dragon Caller, Kaede

    Dragon/Attacker
    HP: 3530
    ATK: 1690
    RCV: 101
Active Skill: Randomly spawn 3 Wood & Heart orbs from non Wood & Heart orbs. Reduces cooldown of other skills by 1 turn.
Leader Skill: All attribute cards ATK x3.5 when reaching 2 Wood combos. ATK x0.5 for each additional combo, up to ATK x4 when reaching 3 combos. Reduce damage taken by 50% after matching Heal orbs in a cross formation.

The best leader to pair with Kaede is another Kaede, hands down, and if your friend hasn't ult'd their's yet, send them a in-game mail to let them know they should and then begrudgingly pair with a non-ult Kaede. You'll do fine in most farming situations even with your 50% shield, but you'll be doing half-damage by comparison. It's not the end of the world, but worth noting.

    Situational

NOTE: With Kaede's new ult, pairing with anything other than her is gimping both your damage and your defense. If you can pair with Kaede, do so, and if you can't, get some more Kaede friends. Feel free to use these leads as needed until your new Kaede friends accept your friend requests.

Reincarnated Parvati - JP Only ATM
    '
    Balanced/Devil/God
    HP: 4043
    ATK: 1956
    RCV: 613
Active Skill: Change Water orbsto Heart orbs. Enhance Heart orbs. +6% per orb, up to +180% for full board.
Leader Skill: Wood ATT ATK x2.5, RCV x2. ATK x2 when simultaneously clearing 4 connected heart orbs, ATK x0.5 for each additional orb up to ATKx4 for 8 orbs.

Revo Parvati is a great leader to pair with Kaede, as both their leader skills and active skills have wonderful synergy together. In addition, Parvati comes with two TPAs, and is unbindable! Their playstyles merge seamlessly, and if you don't have a Kaede friend to pair with, this is your second best option! Her Revo gives her a perfectly-suited bind-clear awakening, which covers Kaede's only real weakness! Also, the HP and RCV boost are super-nice for quality of life.

    Divine Creator of Equilibrium, Vishnu

    God/Attacker/Devil
    HP:3565
    ATK: 1930
    RCV: 306
Active Skill: Increase skyfall chance of Wood orbs by 15% for 3 turns. Randomly spawn 2 Wood orbs from non-Wood orbs.
Leader Skill: Wood ATT ATK x2.5, RCV x1.5. All ATT ATK x2 when reaching 1 set of Wood combo. ATK x1 for each additional combo up to ATK x3 when reaching 2 combos.

If you're not pairing with Kaede or Parvati, you should be pairing with Vishnu. He's like an easier-to-active version of Kaede, without the damage reduction. To make up for the slight lost in ATK, he comes with THREE TPAs, and his active increases the skyfall chance of Wood orbs, to make activating your leader skills much easier. His S.Uevo brings us an extra TE (in case you needed more lol ) and a second SBR, which is really useful if you need to run subs that don't have one of their own!

    Thought Spinner Norn, Verdandi

    God/Balanced
    HP:3255
    ATK: 1457
    RCV: 502
Active Skill: Change all orbs to Fire, Wood and Heart orbs.
Leader Skill: ATK x3 when HP is less than 50%. (ATK x3.3 when HP is full. ATK x3.15 when HP is greater than 50%.) Fire ATT cards HP x1.5.

Verdandi iis a great leader with her consistent damage, especially if you find yourself running a lot of Wood/Fire subs. While she only brings one TPA, she comes with three wood orb enhance awakenings to boost the damage on your wood combos,. Her active ensures you'll have the option of either pushing damage and activating your damage reduction!

    Awoken Meimei

    Physical/Attacker
    HP: 4075
    ATK: 1704
    RCV: 106
Active Skill: Change all orbs to Wood, Light & Dark orbs. Reduces cooldonws of other skills by 1 turn.
Leader Skill: All ATT ATK x3.5 when attacking with Wood, Light & Dark combos. 30% Wood, Light & Dark damage reduction.

MeiMei brings a bit of a different playstyle in that she requires additional matches in dark or light combos to go along with your heart and wood combos, but brings a constant reduction to wood, light, and dark damage. This is what earns her a spot in the recommended subs section instead of situational – she especially shines if you have low-CD wood orb changers on your team. She brings two TPAs and a skill-boost to the party so even when you can't activate, you're doing decent damage.

Soul-Judging God of Dark Riches, Osiris

    God/Balanced
    HP:3090
    ATK: 1467
    RCV: 368
Active Skill: Changes right-most column into Wood orbs.
Leader Skill: Wood ATT HP and RCV x1.35. All ATT ATK x3.5 when reaching 6 combos or above.
Another great leader to pair with if you can't find another Kaede, Osiris trades 0.5 ATK for a small boost in HP and RCV, and since you'll be looking to hit at least two, it won't be hard to hit 6 combos. He also comes with four Wood orb enhance awakenings, just in case the x27.56 damage from connecting two TPAs among six combos wasn't enough for you.

Moonlight Feline Goddess Armor, Ace AKA BAcetet

    God/Devil
    HP: 3810
    ATK: 1507
    RCV: 385
Active Skill: All attacks become multi-targer for 3 turns. Reduce enemy def by 50%. Increases time limit of orb movement by 2 seconds for 1 turn. Effects carry forward on sweep.
Leader Skill: ATK x2 and 4 combos. ATK x1 for each additional combo, up to ATK x8 at 10 combos. Wood attribute cards ATK x1.5 when reaching 3 sets of Wood combos.

    You'll already be hitting 3 wood combos to do ideal damage – the higher skill-level players will find running with a Bastet to be incredibly useful, when they're not tearing things apart with another Kaede. She brings utility with the defense break portion of her AS, and extra damage with that god-killer awakening. Also comes with two time extends. My only real complaint is the art. A.Bastet is so adorably ferocious, and then we get this... I can only pray for a Revo Bastet down the line that puts this adorable feline back to solo-starring in her artwork. ;_;

    Awoken Bastet

    Devil/Balanced
    HP:3560
    ATK: 1357
    RCV: 455
Active Skill: All attacks become multi-targer for 3 turns. Increases time limit of orb movement by 2 seconds for 1 turn..
Leader Skill: ATK x3 and 5 combos. ATK x0.5 for each additional combo, up to ATK x4 at 7 combos. Wood attribute cards ATK x1.5 on the turn a skill is used. (Multiple skills will not stack.)

You'll already be hitting 3 wood combos along with a hear-cross to do ideal damage, so one more combo isn't too much to ask – the higher skill-level players will find running with a Bastet to be incredibly useful, when they're not tearing things apart with another Kaede. She brings utility with her poison resists, and extra damage with her multi-attack AS. Also comes with two time extends. Also, look at that adorably ferocious artwork!! And the spirit kitties!

    Eternal Jade Dragon Caller, Sonia

    Dragon/Balanced
    HP: 3239
    ATK: 1720
    RCV: 275
Active Skill: Change board to Wood and Dark orbs.
    Leader Skill:
US: Dragon ATT ATK x2.5 and RCV x 2.5.
JP: Dragon and Balanced ATT ATK x2.5 and RCV x2.5

If you're running a Dragon team (and at least fo rnow, on JP, a Dragon/Balanced team), Gronia acts as a great leader to pair with for those who are looking to trade a little ATK for a little more survivability in the form of RCV. Especially considering a lot of Wood ATT Dragon monsters tend to Balanced type, you're taking already good RCV and making it even better. While her awakenings don't do too much for us, her active pairs nicely with Kaede's leader skill, especially if you're running a lot of Dark sub-ATT monsters in your sub slots. You could also bring along a Verche if you're running mainly Wd/L monsters to turn those orbs into something more useful to your team. Definitely a leader worth using if you have the right typing, which is easy if you're running Wood ATT monsters!

    Moon Flower Huntress, Artemis

    God/Attacker
    HP: 3040
    ATK: 1705
    RCV: 271
Active Skill: Change Heart and Fire orbs to Wood orbs.
Leader Skill: Wood ATT cards HP x2, ATK x2

When you want to trade ATK for HP, Artemis is the way to go, espcially due to her double-Wood orb-change. While her rows don't exactly lend to Kaede's playstyle, she does come with a TPA , which meshes with our playstyle. Considering she comes with three rows however, it may sometimes be worth connecting a row and a TPA, as that extra damage affects all wood damage, not just her own.

    Subs
    Orb Changers

    Board Changers

    Thought Spinner Norn, Verdandi

Verdandi is one of our most desireable subs, with orb enhance awakenings, a TPA, and most-importantly a board-change active that turns the board into fire, wood, and heart orbs. It combos perfectly with Kaede's active skill but also stands on its own if necessary. You want at least one on your team, more details in the team-building section.

    Awoken MeiMei

While MeiMei's active does not produce hearts, it will generally give you enough non-wood orbs that you can pop both Kaedes and activate your full LS. She also comes with two TPAs and skill-haste, which is incredibly valuable on a team that benefits so much from skill-haste. If you don't have Verdaandi, or if you do and need to filln addittional sub slot, she's a great option.

    Paradise Jade Dragon Caller, Sonia

The Summer Festival (AKA Pool Party) REM's Summer Sonia is arguably much better for us than her regular incarnation as she comes with two TPAs in exchange for Green Sonia's dark row and wood orb enhance. Her active is better too, as it changes the board to wood and water, which works with Parvati's AS beautifully, or Toytops if you don't have Parvati; it additionally comes with a 2-turn skill-haste, which is beautiful for a Kaede team. If you have her, she's absolutely worth slotting as a sub.

    Diligent Spy. Ishida Mitsunari

Mitsunari-san is a wonderful sub for us with his 1933 ATK, but he unfortunatley has two wood rows instead of TPAs. Of note, however, is his active that changes the board to wood, dark, and heart orbs and provides a 2-turn skill-haste, which has great synergy with other subs we want, such as MeiMei and Verdandi. He also comes with a skill-bind resist, which gets us a little closer to that coveted 100% immunity. Absolutely worth using if you don't have Verdandi or MeiMei.

    Eternal Jade Dragon Caller, Sonia

Gronia doesn't exactly come with the best awakenings for us, but her orb-change active might suit your team better. She also comes with a bind-recover awakening, to help you clear binds if you don't have someone better for the job and you're lucky enough to not have her bound, and can connect a row of heal orbs. There are better board-change subs, but Sonia is not bad at all.

    Chivalric Demon Prince, Cauchemar

Chauemar's active is incredibly good for a farmable sub, changing the board to fire, wood, and dark orbs, as well as reducing damage by 30% for 1 turn. He unfortunately comes with no TPA awakenings, and has zero recovery. Worth using, but also worth replacing when you the better subs the REM offers, such as Parvati, who requires him as an Awoken Uevo material!

    Orb Changers

    Awoken Parvati

Parvati is an amazing sub, as she is unbindable and comes with an active that turns water orbs to heal orbs, then enhances wood and heal orbs. Perfect fo us. At max-skill, it's a 5-turn CD, which lets you inherit something like L.Meta or GGY oonto her for bind-clear, which is Kaede's sole weakness. She also comes with two TPAs, making her wonderfully versatile, and thus an amazing Kaede sub. If you have her, she should be given a permanent spot on your team.

    Steadfast Bearded Deity, Guan Yu

AKA Magnificent Beard, Guan Yu, his active changes heal and poison orbs to wood, which makes him useful to us as a high-stat heartbreaker and a vital solution when faced with, say, Beezlebub's Sea of Poison, which changes the entire board to poison orbs. His AS also now offers a 3k heal and 3-turn bind recovery too, making him a wonderful bind-clearer and skill-inheritance consideration once you can fill his slot. Personally, I have him inherited onto my A.Parvati. Permanently.

    Restrained Dragon Hero, Liu Bei

Liu Bei comes with three TPAs, a ridiculous amount of attack considering such, and an active that changes heal and dark orbs to wood. What used to be an automatic sub is still one, but requires more strategic use. Currently, the x2 ATK from Kaede's cross-shield will stay as long as the shield is up, and the shield stays if you sweep a floor. If there's no pre-emptive on the next floor, Liu Bei's AS is a great way to get the orbs needed to sweep the next floor, easily reaching the 12 wood orbs needed for 3TPAs - the max damage you can put out without skyfalls. He is still very much worth using!

    Awoken Artemis

Another dual-orb-changer, Artermis changes heal and fire orbs to wood, and increases wood skyfall chance by 15% for 2 turns, which is amazing, and works much like LiuBei - great for continuing to sweep floors. She comes with two TPAs now, and a SBR! Totally worth a sub slot on your team!

    Archangel of Annihilation, Michael

Michael was already a good sub for us, but with this Uevo he becomes amazing, with 1969 ATK and 611 RCV, more than making up for Kaede's lack of the latter. In addition, he comes with four auto-recovers and three wood rows, as well as an active that turns light to wood and dark to heal, which has great synergy with Kaede's leader skill. Absolutely worth using, especially if you're going for a row team build. Of course, he'd be much better if he had TPAs...perhaps with his eventual Awoken form. Just don't hold your breath on that showing up anytime soon.

    Brave Vanquishing Deity, Perseus

Perseus is a wonderful sub for us, with an active that changes water to wood and fire to heart, which gives him great synergy with Kaede's leader-skill. He also is one of the few green subs with two skill-bind resists, making it a lot easier to hit that 100%. He also comes with a bind-clear awakening in case you lack someone better-suited to the job, such as Kano. Consider making him a staple sub unless you can run a full REM TPA team.

    Marine Rider, Bard Robin

While his sub-ATT is odd, and his dual-orb-change active only produces one color we care about – wood; his two TPAs make him worth considering, as does his skill-bind resist.

    Awoken Ceres

This is one of our bind-clear options and the most-specialized of them all. Between the unbindable status, bind clear awakening, and bind-clear active, you'll never have to worry about binds again. If you do slot her, I would consider inheriting an offensive AS onto her for the times where you don't need binds cleared. Otherwise I would just replace her with another offensive sub if binds aren't an issue for that particular dungeon.

    Shrine Priestess, Kano

Kano is our resident on-color Sticker Girl, and she performs her job very well, with an active that turns water and light to heal orbs, and comes with a bind-clear awakening. She also comes with two auto-recovers and a skill-bind resist, as well as a wood row. If you need to face binds, Kano's a great option, and would be ideal if she were unbindable.

    Earth Dragon Knight

She is one of our bind-clear otpions, with an active that turns heal to wood orbs and provides bind recovery for 2 turns. Additionally, she's unbindable, comes with a TPA, and is Dragon type! If you're facing binds and lacking a better option or a card to inherit her onto, she's worth slotting. Binds are Kaede's one real weakness.

    Pure Demon Lord, Astaroth

Astaroth's wood/dark Uevo is here due to the extra 400 ATK, even at the loss of 100 HP and 220 RCV. If you'd rather a tankier team, consider using her wood/wood Uevo instead. They both have the same awakenings, and an active that counters 3x damage with wood damage for 4 turns, and changes fire orbs to wood. An interesting sub choice, considering she brings rows and not TPAs, but not a bad sub, necessarily.

    Thorned Goddess, Valkyrie Elize

This is our ideal heartbreaker, with Attacker typing, 656 RCV, and two TPAs. If you have her, bring her along for those times where you need burst and still have your cross-hsield up!

    Gusting Prodigy, Sasuke

Sasuke is a great sub for us, with a TPA and a 5-turn active that turns water orbs to wood. Especially for Attacker teams, low-CD orb changers are invaluable. If you're lucky enough to have him, max-skill him and run him on your team!

    Awoken Jord

For a farmable sub, Jord is pretty ridiuclous, with that 2117 ATK, even if she doesn't bring any RCV. Her active changes dark and fire orbs to wood and light respectively, and locks them from being changed by the enemy, which works wonderfully with Kaede's attributes. She even comes with a TPA!! A great farmable option and even worth considering over some REM subs.

    Horned Fort Dragon, Fortoytops

Our on-color heartmaker, Fortoytops changes water orbs to heart obs. He comes with a decent amount of HP and rather nice RCV but his ATK and awakenings are lacking. He's situationally useful but I would suggest finding a replacement for your regular lineup ASAP.

    Wolf Hero, Ignis Cu Chulain

A farmable 5-turn heartbreaker and the one you're most likely to have, Cu Chu is absolutely worth a spot on your team. I've listed the Fire sub-ATT version for the TPA, but the Dark version is worth considering if you're running a hybrid team or a heavy row-focused team.

    Decisisve General, Zhang Fei

Farmable, a TPA, and a 1-turn delay? Yes please. On top of that, he turns dark orbs to wood. Until you find a better sub, he's worth using, and you'll be thankful for that delay since he brings no RCV. A palceholder sub, but a decent one.

    Generate Earth Dragon

A farmable sub you may very well have in your box already, his active deals 20,000 Wood damage to all enemies and changes dark orbs to wood. As a Balanced-type monster, his stats won't focus you too heavily into one area and cripple you in another, which makes him a great starter sub.

    Ancient Dragon Knight, Zeal

Our final orb-changer, ADKZ, is a nice farmable sub for us, with a 5-turn active that changes Fire to Wood. He also brings a TPA, making him incredibly useful for us for a farmable sub, especially considering his stats. He's very much worth using until you land good REM subs.

    Orb Enhancers

    Awoken Parvati

Awoken Parvati is an amazing sub, and I would argue a key sub for what she brings. Her 5-turn (!!) active gives us hearts, and proceeds to enhance both wood and heart orbs. She's like the Akechi of Kaede teams, but better because she's unbindable - this last bit also makes her a prime target for skill inheritance with the likes of L.Meta, GGY, a Fairy Tale girl, or even a Dragon Swordsman. If you have her, you should be using her.

    Sincere Class Monitor, Athena

Once this evo comes to the US it'll make PAD Acadmey Athena an even better sub for Kaede. I would place her above Parvati were it not for the fact that you'll rarely need enhanced orbs and the latter actually generates an orb-type we can use, She's also unbindable, which makes her another option for inheriting a bind-clear active onto, and which, in the absence of Parvati, earns her a permanent spot on your team.

    My Melody & Brachys

Yep, this adorable little thing made the list. While there are of course better options, they do come with a TPA and a delay tacked onto the orb-enhance, as well as an orb-enh and skill-boost awakening. Replace them when you can, but they'll work if you don't have anything better!

    Ace Archer, Green Arrow

While there are certainly better sub options, Green Arrow brings a delay along with his wood and heart enhance in his AS, which case be useful if you find yourself without a killshot board. Replace him with another REM orb-changer as soon as the chance arises.

    5 Mechdragon Fusion, God Canopus
    '
A great farmable option, assuming you can get the materials needed. He comes with a TPA, and a nuke in his 5-turn active. His high HP and ATK for a farmable sub make him a great placeholder until you can pull something better from the REM!

    Mighty Dragon General, Zhao Yun

Farmable from his own Descended dungeon, Zhao Yun's actie recovers 25% of your max HP and enhances wood and light orbs, both of which we use. He even comes with a TPA, an orb enh, and a skill boost! Replace him when able!

    Attack Enhancers

    Awoken Freyja

While Freyja breaks from her siblings' awakening pattern and comes with three rows and one TPA, she's still useful to us for the double-SBR if you're lacking a Perseus and wanted to run two LiuBeis or other subs without SBRs. Her active also comes with skill-haste, which is great for Kaede, who becomes exponentially stronger with a system team.

    Ancient Draggie Knight, Zeal

A farmable option that can now be skilled up by means other than himself when in-rotation, Draggie gives us a nice 1-turn delay on top of the x2.6 ATK to Dragon-type for one turn. Convieniently enough, a lot of the high-end wood TPA subs are Dragon-type.

    Utility Subs

    Awoken Parvati

Awoken Parvati makes another quick appearance here to remind you that she is unbindable and thus a great target for a bind-clear active via skill-inheritance.

    Gods' Threat Venomous Snake, Jörmungandr

Jormundgandr is an amazing farmable poison sub who also comes with a board change active. Yes, it does create jammers, but you can combo those away easily enough - just don't use Kaede's AS unless you feel like gambling or you have another board-changer on your team.

    Trance Zidane

Zidane brings a couple wood orb enh awakenings, two skill boosts, a TPA, and a really nice active. It's a shame it isn't just a 5-turn wood orb skyfall, buy Kaede has a light sub-ATT so it isn't the end of the world. Replace him when you get something better.

    Yamatsumi

Yamatsumi is an amazing farmable sub for Kaede - her active increases the skyfall chance of heart and wood orbs for four turns. At max-level, its CD is 8, which means two of them will give you constant increased skyfall chance of the only two orb types you care about. I'll be farming two of these and max-skilling them to do some testing!

    Awoken Susanoo no Mikoto

Awoken Susanoo is amazing as a sub for those times where you can't match cross-hearts for the shield! He's unbindable, so works as an bind-clear inheritance target, and also comes with two TPAs and skill-haste! You might consider his G/G U.evo if you have a dupe or no realy need for A.Susanoo otherwise - for sacrificing one TPA, the shorter AS, and skillhaste, you gain devil and dragon-killer, which would serve you well in many circumstances.

    Miko Goddess of Protection, Kushinadahime

If you're worried about taking making sure you're able to take a gigantic hit on a single turn, Kushi-hime is your answer. While she doesn't have a TPA and is bindable herself, she comes with a couple wood orb enhs and a SBR, as well as a bind-clear awakening.

    Green Mech General, Viz Asgard

If you're lacking a Susanoo and need defense reduction for a few turns, Asgard is a great option. Unbindable and farmable, too! Yet another bind-clear inheritance target.

NOTE: There are a lot of other damage reduction subs out there; I've included only the best for the sake of being succinct.

    Awoken Bastet

Awoken Bastet, cat loli, best waifu....Bastest waifu, one might say...is great for burst damage to a bunch of enemies at once. Those TPAs that hit twice? Hit everything twice with her AS. Those time extends help make sure you can get the board just as you like, and the two poison resist awakenings are great for avoiding one of Kaede's few weaknesses.

    Christmas Tree Spirit, Alraune

What's that, your effective-delay in your 75% damage reduction heart-cross shield isn't enough? You need an actual delay? This adorable dryad from the XMas REM has you covered! Her 3-turn Echidna-style delay also comes with two heart orb enh awakenings to help you heal back during those three extra turns~

    Decisive General, Zhang Fei

A farmable monster that also comes with a TPA, his active delays enemies for 1 turn and converts dark orbs to wood. He's definitely worth using until you can land better cards!

    Awoken Ceres

Effectively our L.Meta, she is the ultimate answer to binds, with a 6-turn 30% max HP heal and 3-turn-bind-clear CD,and a bind-clear awakening, and a SBR, among her awakenings. You might consider going with her F/L evo - the AS CD rises to 10 turns in exchange for a full HP heal and full bind-clear and you'll lose the SBR, but you gain devil and dragon killer awakenings, which bring her damage close to Kaede's against those enemy types.

    Shining Lance Wielder, Odin

Grodin is finally useful after some buffs that gave his AS a 2-turn bind recovery, and it's recently gotten another update to bring it to a- 5-turn bind-clear, which we should see soon in US. He also comes with four auto-recover awakenings and some really high stats!

    Steadfast Bearded Deity, Guan Yu

Magnificent Beard, Guan Yu returns again, this time noted for the 3k HP heal and 3-turn bind-clear and his ability to convert poison orbs, one of Kaede's few weaknesses, into heart orbs. He's worth a permanent slot on your team just for this alone, in lieu of Parvati.

    Endless Era Sorcerer, Wee Jas

Another great bind-clearer is Wee Jas, who in addition to being unbindable, comes with an AS that delays for 1 turn and changes the bottom row to hearts, which you can then use his to activate his bind-clear awakening. While he doesn't come with an SBR, he does bring two time extends and soon, a devil-killer and physical-killer, to put him close to your Kaedes in damage against those types!

    Creation Tree Spirit, Alraune

If you need a farmable bind-clearer, Alraune is a great option. Unfortunately, she only has 50% bind immunity but it should get you through just fine until you can pull something better.

    Pre-Descend Farmable Subs

    Coming soon!

    JP Exclusive Subs

    鉄機王, Star Justice

Farmable unbindable bind clearer?! Yesplz. He also comes with a time-extend and a really nice amount of HP. His RCV is garbage and his ATK is average, but really, with your shield up most of the time, RCV isn't an issue.

    Team Builds

    Everyday Farming

Orb-changers are the name of the game for farming teams, more-so than usual for Kaede. At a x16 multiplier with TPAs, you'll be hitting x54 off your leaders and any 3-TPA subs, you don't need the heart-cross. So what do you run? Short orb changers with TPAs, double orb-changers with TPAs, and board changers.

Simply cycle through your actives and have fun blowing apart whatever dungeon you stepped into! The more skill-haste subs you have on your team, the faster it goes!

    TPA Teams

Kaede is best-suited for TPA teams, given that she carries three TPAs herself, as well as her leader skill requiring multiple wood combos to trigger her max multiplier. The more subs you can stack that have multiple TPAs, the better. Kaede's only real weakness is binds, but it's a serious one. If you're walking into a dungeon with unavoidable binds, you need to make sure you have an answer to this, and to that end, I permanently slot a bind-clearer onto my own team so I never have to worry.

The third team has actually been used to clear Arena2, more on that in the Descends section! Use your actives smartly, the only thing you have to fear is binds as long as you're matching heart-crosses where necessary. You don't particularly need a delay given that your 75% shield might as well be one, and you deal enough damage with your LS and TPAs that you can burst past rage zones for the kill without any damage enhancers.

    Row Teams?!!

If you're contemplating a row team, you either lack TPA subs or are bored and enjoy theorycrafting. Luckily for you, Kaede's damage multiplier is too damn high, and she can run row subs if she needs to. You only have one or two boards to remember if you want to see your max multiplier, however, you can only really get one row as a result, unless her x2ATK stays tied to the presence of the shield and not the match of a cross heart. Thankfully, a lot of row subs also convert two orb types to wood!

Someone please clear Arena with that first team. I want to see it so badly. Kaede benefits far more from running TPAs than rows, but if you can only run rows, these teams are good ways to go about doing so!

    Plus-Egg Priorities

Plus eggs will take your team to the next level and they're what the game is balanced around. At +99 eggs to each stat, +297 total, max-level, max-awoken (via tamadras), and max-skill level a card is considered hypermaxed - a fully hypermaxed team will perform leagues better than an unplussed team. Your priorities shoudl be as such:

HYPERMAX ONE TEAM AT A TIME - You will find far greater returns in hypermaxing a full team rather than sprinkling your +297s over your entire box. With one team fully hypermaxed, you can clear far more content more reliably, which means the rest of your teams will be hypermaxed faster due to not wasting stamina on lost attempts at descends.

    1. Leader - Always plus your leaders first as this will also benefit your friends, which means more PAL points for you - that's more rolls during PAL events and less stamina spent on farming mats, which means more stamina to spend farming plus-eggs or tackling descends.

    2. Key Subs Used on Other Teams As Well - Your second target for plus eggs is any sub that you use on any additional teams in addition to your Kaede team. You'll get use out of it for Kaede but it will also make your other teams stronger in the process.

    3. Key Subs Used Only on Kaede Teams - If it's only used on this team, but used regularly or permanently, plus it after you've taken care of the above. The investment will pay off every time you use the team.

    4. Situational Subs - These are subs you don't always use on the team and only switch in to handle certain obstacles, say to use as a delay or answer to poison/jammer orbs. They won't be worth the 297 plus eggs until you've taken care of all of the above.

    Latent Tamadras

"Hypermaxed" used to be the highest aspiration for a card, but as of the release of Latent Tamadras, "Pentamaxed" is the new ideal. For a card to be Pentamaxed, it must be max-level, max-awoken, max-skill level, have 99 +eggs in each stat (+297 total), and have five latent tamadras fed to it. Until recently, many teams had different latents based on what they were looking to tackle - the true end-game challenge, Arena, often calls for dark resist latents (-1% dark damage per dark resist latent) on teams due to the huge amount of dark single-hit damage in Arena in a few spots.

Kaede doesn't have that problem. With her 75% shield, she has no need for resist latents. She does, however, require Skill Delay Resist latents, which resist 1 turn of skill delay per latent. After that, the only latents that really bring us anything worthwhile are RCV and ATK latents. The ATK latents are somewhat redundant given Kaede's enormous multiplier, where-as RCV latents effectively become HP latents. Activating her shield requires matching a heart orbs in a cross formation, and the more you heal from that, the more HP you have to soak a hit with after the 75% shield is applied. Which gives us a rather simple priority:

Two mandatory SDR latents to each Kaede on your team, and three RCV latents. Feed them RCV first, then SDR, as overwriting latents follows a "first in, first out" rule - this way if anything changes in the latents we want, you won't be losing 25k MP just to tweak your additional stats.

On cards that aren't Kaede, consider 2 SDRs for REM cards, and either RCV, HP, or ATK - whichever stat the card has a lot of by comparison to other cards. Attackers, for instance, will have high attack, so use ATK latents, physical cards will have HP, so use HP latents, etc.

Much like hypermaxing, latent awakening is best done one team at a time. It will pay off exponentially for each additional latent you add to the team!

Reserved for unplanned additional content. Like Descend videos or something. Or silly exhibition run by community members, like taking on Hera-Ur with a Kaede wood team.

Nice start on the guide, what you've written so far is pretty well written. I would love to get a Kaede on my alt account (my main account has had practically no green REM pulls for some reason).

Her ls reduction doesn't work on preemptives, thats the reason why pretty much everybody doesn't run her (maybe her buff changes it).

I have a hypermax kaede but no friends who put her up. It'd be nice to make some!

But honestly I can sort of understand why... Most people who run green teams have leaders that either hit harder (bastet) or stall better (parvati). I have tried leading with her a couple of times and she's in a weird place somewhere in-between.

Was wondering whether the slight buff to her leader skill in JP will be enough to make anyone start running her tho?

It'd be nice if her cross defense worked against preemptives. But I guess you can always take susano anyway.

I can't decide what kind of team would actually work best, whether to go tanky with heart makers and dual changers like perseus or just all out offensive stacking hastes like meimei for an almost system style team.. But then, what's the point of having her cross defense ability at all?

Yeah... I feel her "buff" wasn't really enough in the end. Or they should have given her an extra awakening or two like the other (lower rarity...) dragon callers got.

EDIT: Vishnu seems like an obvious option for alternative pairings...

Yes, came to to reiterate a lot of what Sam said. If her cross were valid against pre-emptives too, I think that would make her way more popular. And I don't get why they didn't give her more awakenings when the others got more...

And yes -- Vishnu is the obvious leader to pair her up with. If you have a Vishnu in your own team you can get constant skyfall, which is extremely useful for keeping those combos coming.

    @samuelburtt @chiubag

Yes, I realized as I was going to bed that I forgot to add Vishnu and Osiris to the Recommended Leaders section, both of whom are great to pair with, Vishnu in-particular as you've noted. Fixing that now' always listen to that nagging feeling that you've forgotten something!

I absolutely share your concerns with regards to her ability as a leader compared to other options, but I think her strength comes from that flexibility - you can choose between the tankier playstyle or the rushdown playstyle (HM team with 4 Meimeis will tear through pretty much anything..). Even if you stack a few heart-makers or orb n heart makers like Perseus, you're still going to be doing at least 3.5x damage, if not 4x. And you don't have to connect five heart orbs to do it.

That siad, I'm also really disappointed that the damage reduction doesn't carry over like Kushi-hime and Susanoo's, and I'm really hoping that GungHo is watching the community and realizes that it NEEDS to carry over if they want that aspect of the Dragon Callers to really shine as leaders.

    @foxwaffles
Thank you! That's entirely understandable - I enjoy scholarly pursuits as well, and certainly enjoy strategy, which is why I've taken up writing both these guides. Besides, you may roll a Kaede one day, and then you'll know exactly where to go to get the most out of her. ;)

Does anyone know of any videos of a Kaede led Meimei system? I figure I have Kaede and the Meimei's but no Zuoh so why the heck not try this out.

Kaede should be a nuts lead. I haven't rolled her, so Sumire it is.

Her LS not working on preemtives hurts. Sumire has high HP subs can pair with Alrescha to fix that. If you're lucky, though, you have Awoken Susano for your Kaede team.
